- Beryl made landfall near Matagorda as a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. After moving across the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm, Beryl regained hurricane strength shortly before moving onto the Texas coast.

A CAT1 doesn't spell doom, but had it been a CAT3 (Jamaica), it most certainly would've wrecked QUITE a bit of older, weaker structures.

Prayers to my fellow Texans and other people affected by Hurricane Beryl. They need to weatherproof our infrastructure. This is happening far too often to be comfortable living here anymore.
for real we have like 3 different natural phenomenons and no houses are built for any of them
Most of Houston was originally a flood plain or wetland/ marsh before we put a hunch of concrete over it, the drainage systems are not built uo to date to account for how much the city has grown. Especially when theres so many empty lots of forests and other places the water has nowhere to go but over the land . Also construction companies do cut corners and route their drainage to already existing areas and dont build their own to save money. My town and almost all my families houses were flooded during harvey

Thank god this was only a Cat 1. We had 110 mph gusts here in northwest houston. Was pretty gnarly around 930 am.
And of course our power promptly went out. And we spent four days without power only a month ago. Centerpoint Energy needs to fix their infrastructure!!!!

A typical Houston summer. Stay safe y'all, and we'll be happy to take some of that rain here in San Antonio when y'all get enough. I was really hoping Beryl would make landfall down near Brownsville so we'd get the rain this time, but nope.

We live in the Houston area and the wind sounded bad.Our power went out about 4am but thank God it came back on about 2pm.

Something needs to be done with the infrastructure, sure it's a powerfull storm but taxes are super high and electricity fees as well, this can't be happening every storm we have, fix the damn electric grid!!!
Actually, texas taxes are medium compared to the rest of the country. States that pay more taxes like Connecticut don't have the same infrastructure problems y'all have. Your electricity prices are high because of poor planning of your grid, expanding into areas that were once pure desert is a bad idea. Hopefully you can get your government to work for you instead of against you.

As someone who has lived several other states besides Texas, storms knock out power where ever you go. It's not just a Texas thing.

Omg a tree fell in our backyard. Fell close to the house and hit our weather head poll. So yay. Now we have to fix that before electricity is restored to our home. I hope your damage isn't too extensive and hope everyone is ok! 🙏🏻

@@katrinamillings3651 That's what I was trying to explain to my son about this. He wants to move away from the coast too. We are down closer to the coast where it came in at. The Bay City area. I explained to him how bad the tornados are in the Midwest and North Texas. Pretty much anywhere you go there's some kind of crazy weather. Northern states have to worry about severe winters.
Everywhere you go is danger tho. West coast like California-wildfires, mudslides. East coast snow freezing weather/hurricanes, dirty south-hurricane, mid usa-tornado alley, north freezing cold major snowing sleet black ice!! Hell, Hawaii-volcanism!!

@@mrs.vhorton8045 The southwest is pretty ideal (Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada). Hot desert temperatures at times but that's about it. Montana has an awesome climate as well but of course it gets really cold.
