    I lost around 40lbs after going into the hospital in October 2020, I had extremely high blood pressure and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. So I basically cut out grains and sugar, and if I did eat some it was all about portion control. By about the end of February 2021 I lost 40lbs. My weight has basically stabilized since then. I went to put on a coat a couple of weeks ago when the weather turned cold, and all my coats fit me like tents -- I had to go buy a new coat for this winter. Anyhow Bob and Brad are right about what they are saying here. BTW my last 2 diabetes doctor's visits my blood sugar is back in the normal range.

    So I tried this. Today is the last day of the 5th week. I went from 181 Lbs to 170.6 Lbs. YEA! I never really paid attention to the carbs content before. Your video was revealing. I exercised routinely but could not drop weight. I was like what the heck? Why am I not loosing weight? So the reality of carb reduction does work. Also, along with that I exercise moderately. Stretching, a little dumbbell workout, and I average about 4 miles per day walking and a little jogging too. I am 61 year old Male. So hopefully this will encourage someone to do it.

    We all need to remember that our bodies are so different. My endocrinologist had me match 1 gram complex carb to one gram protein in order to reduce my hypoglycemic crashes. I also lost 70 pounds.

    • @Ayyeliki
      @Ayyeliki 2 роки тому +7

      Correct but your goal was to manage your hypoglycemic episodes, sounds like.
      For people not experiencing those, they could certainly cut down on all the junky carbs of which there are plenty in our diets, in general.
      I, too, get rebound postprandial hypoglycemia if, say, I have only a bagel for breakfast - I pay for it three hours later! Now a bagel with some eggs ( protein ) - fine.
      So it does depend on our goals AND current health issues !
      I’m betting most people are just simply looking to lose excess weight.
      Most are not going to endocrinologists. Wishing you good health!

So, I have to weigh my serving of complex carb and read the chart to know the grams so that I can equal it out to my protein grams. My food scale has become my best friend in the kitchen. However, if I was looking at a label on yogurt for instance: my Chobani says 11 g protein and 16 g carbs. It is almost 1:1 so it is a safe choice for me. If it was 3:1 then I am setting my self up for a spike then a crash.

You will be shocked at how big the difference is between strawberries and cheese or salami, for example. An advantage of getting fiber from beans, vegetables, legumes, fruits, whole grains, etc. is that you get many different types, and therefore can feed many different types of gut bacteria, whereas a fiber pill will have just one or a few types. Totally true. I'm down 55 pounds in 14 months, and still losing weight slowly. I cut out non-fruit carbs almost entirely and I eat only two meals a day with no snacks except fruit (OK, sometimes a Kind nut bar....). I don't count calories or carb grams because that's too neurotic for me. I just avoid all white foods and sugar -- bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, cereal, pastries, desserts, candy, and sweetened drinks except for honey in my morning coffee. I eat tons of meat, eggs, whole fat dairy, fresh fruit, greens, vegetables and nuts. I also walk 2-3 hours most days. And yeah, my blood chemistry is back to teenager status. It's changed my life.

      How would you define the word “fascist”? I wonder because I find that most people can’t define it. I can’t define it off hand and I’m an English major and student of history. It’s like Left- wing and Right-wing. What does that mean exactly? All I know is that I’m a college graduate. Writer, TV producer, now actor. My husband has a Ph.d in political science from the University of Colorado and a Master’s in public administration from Harvard. Our neighbor next door works in construction. His son is in medical school. Another neighbor runs the town waste facility. His wife is an aide at the assisted living center. Our town has millionaires and truck drivers, nurses and wait staff. Good people. Friendly people. And what I have found is that people look very different when you accept them as individuals instead of just applying a label and moving on.

      When I was 24, I literally was able to exercise my way out of a bad diet LITERALLY. I was 5-9 215 and in the summer all I did was play basketball outside at the YMCA after work. I ate McDonalds literally several times a day as I was addicted to those $1 double cheeseburgers, fries and the sweet tea. Playing basketball for like 3 hours 4-5 days a week helped me lose 30 pounds in a month and a half (185 pounds), I worked all of my muscles literally just playing ball and sweating my ass off. I cannot do that now though for sure 🤣🤣🤣.

    SInce doing multiplication in your head is FAR easier than division, you can use the fact that food-label grams are always in whole numbers to your advantage. MULTIPLY the FIBER grams by 5. If the result is GREATER than the TOTAL CARBOHYDRATE grams, you're good to go (the greater the better). All whole numbers, no in-head division, even a school kid can do this.

It took YEARS for me to figure this out - that it's all about the carbs (for me anyway) to just reduce them and the weight comes off. And add more fiber, like they said. I had also adopted a little shelter dog and so the walking of the dog every day added to the weight loss too.

Then lost over 70lbs eating a moderate amount of carbs and cardio including potatoes and rice. I ate e meals a day but only 1- starches. If I had oatmeal in the morning that was my starch for the day. Substitutions also help a lot. I lifted weights 3 times a week to help shape and strengthen my body. I stopped weighing myself and just focused on my health and fitness. I'm still plump but I feel 10x better. It's a journey for some of us.
