Hi - I've been throwing knives for some years now - you have found your own style - I see that in the video you are throwing by the blade at about one and a half turns - also that the blade is landing on average to the right of the target , this is because you are moving on the throw in a twisting motion - - you might find that standing side on will help - - I find throwing by the blade under arm at the 1/12 distance accurate - the weight of the handle will drive the blade in - it looks good as well - but my favorite is by the handle at 2 turns - for me I throw with my hand level with my ear - good to see someone throwing and enjoying it - it's all personal and whatever works -
I'm kind of old to try this but I've always been fascinated by people who can throw a knife accurately and efficiently. I bought an Olympia one today and have a large Maple in the back yard.

10-12 feet because throwing by the blade, launching handle forward: One 180 rotation to next point forward. Handle throw starts point forward at 0 feet, so it requires two 180 rotations to be point forward again: 20-24 feet...

I prefer quarter spin throwing also known as no spin knife throwing because distance becomes non-issue. It is also the best way to throw in a combat situation.
thats some bs,...any kind knive throwing involving rotation will only work on a certain distance or with a lot of training for each different distance...if its supposed to work everytime you should look up some "non rotation knife throwing"
the point of non rotating is that the rotation is very slow and can be controlled much easier, if you rotate the knife too much you need a lot of training since you have to know how much the knife will rotate at, lets say, 5,7,9 or 11m
1CRAZYMF249 if they got the balls to stick someone like that they dont need me telling them how to do it, it was just to point out how silly it is to throw your knife in a fight, especially when trying to kill. if they do need my instructions I'd advice them to stick it in, twirl it like you're scrambling eggs and pull out. repeat untill done.
I would have loved to have learned to throw a knife properly when i was young and able to twist my body around. Just that motion, with any "force" behind it would see me collapsing to my knees, in pain. All that said, I really enjoyed your video, thanks, and will pass it onto my son who is still young, fit and very capable. Thanks again buddy and good luck with your future videos!
Excellent lesson. First pace out precisely nine feet, hoping your enemy stays exactly where he is. Then, instantly disarm yourself, by throwing the knife at the spot where he used to be.
now that you've thrown your knife, you no longer have it in your hands, regardless if it sticks into your target or not. with no knife you are far less dangerous than if you simply skip the knife-throwing in the 1st place. throw a rock if you must throw something. but keep your knife in your hand!
learn to gauge the rotation. at those distances I personally like a weight forward blade hold handle, zero rotation. straight line lazer. at distances rotation comes into play as the natural effect of the force behind the throw. this rotation must be gauged and weighed against the balance of the knife to determine spin. I was taught no wrist snap. open your hand and let it out. a weight forward blade will almost always "pull" itself tip first to the target.
There is a technique, I know it isn't used by this throw but when you release it you let your fingers brush against the handle (or blade) and let it slip to negate the spin.
I practiced with knife throwing and got pretty good with it a long time ago but sadly I'm a bit rusty now. I also spray painted my knives bright orange so I could find it afterwards in case I missed.
Can you do a video explaining how to use yawara stick techniques in the context of an empty ballistic knife handle? Like after the blade is shot out of the handle, there must be some techniques specific to the use of the empty handle
mariofan6495 Russian special forces were all issued a ballistic knife, which is a knife but there is a trigger on the side which allows you to launch the blade, it is a weapon which is outlawed almost everywhere and you can't even get a licence for them in the US.
Knif ethrowing requires only one thing: Propper Distance to the Target. Once you knoew the Distance for a half twist every kid can throw a knife "like a machine"....
Noticed that he stand at the same spot, it mean that one rotation of knife to struck it target. For me, every 8 to 10 feet is one rotation because of my arm lenght. Next distance it would be 16 to 20 feet from target because TWO ROTATION = 16 OR 20 FEET. If your have a longer arms the distance/rotation can be greater.
Tiffany There is a throwing method where you throw the knife straight, but that, in my experience, doesn't have the same power or distance as the normal throwing.
I haven't tried knife throwing much, but from my experience when you try and put too much force behind the throw is when it twists or spins too fast and makes it more likely for the handle to hit, or for it to hit at an angle where it wont stick. Could just be me, but I feel you don't have to put all your weight and power behind the throw. Just make a nice smooth action.
A proper knife allows some margin of error in the technique. It should be balanced in such a way that it corrects itself blade forward for a little bit, if this makes any sense :)
The only way is to ensure you'll hit is by estimating your distance to the target, then you'll find how much distance it takes you to hit a half-spin, full spin, 1.5 spin, etc and then you'll know at exactly wich distance you'll hit and wich way you'll hold the knife (blade or handle). Anyways, if you really want to learn you should look for tutorials by EpicBladeTime or Xolette, this is the way I learnt and I can tell you that they know what they are doing (unlike this guy in the vid).
My knife throws always hit point first because I refuse to throw a knife. As the old fighter said, "you will probably not harm, and will quite possibly arm, your opponent". I might throw a spear if the circumstances were right, but a spear has the inertia to do lethal damage (and I know how), whereas knife throwing is a parlor trick.
Uh just a tip KGB Survivalist, I don't think you should make your UA-cam channel name sound like you were part of a group involved in espionage, internal counterintelligence, and crimes against the state lol
Excuse me but the Russian KGB was an extremely disciplined espionage group that had some of the greatest spies and soldiers the world has ever seen. Crazy men of iron.
No-spin knife throwing is too dependent upon the balance of the knife to work all the time. If you've got a good set of properly balanced knives, then have at it, but look at the knives the're throwing. They're only balanced in two directions, not three. A spinning blade is also somewhat more resistant to losing accuracy as they get chipped as there's a bit of angular momentum to resist changes in direction that a no-spin throw doesn't give you. If you've got a dedicated knife for the throwing, then there's nothing wrong with no-spin, but if you're wanting to make other use of the knife or use one that's not balanced in all three directions, you're going to be spinning the blade. But, realistically, any sort of knife throwing is a niche tactic. You shouldn't even think about throwing against somebody if you don't know and understand the situation.
Something they may or may not of said is when throwing you was to put some force downward as well it's a forward force depending on your target length away. Your forward will more that your downward. The downward is purely for spin but if not don't right it will hit handle or flat it's Ballance of it all and judgement
thnx for the cool vid. PAT MINTER is one the worlds best knife and tomahawk throwers.he is a HALL OF FAME EXPERT and all around great person. you can find PAT MINTER on youtube and facebook.he has great videos showing his skill and teachings. much respect.
+Hachi Roku thank you!!!! its just spin throwing, its like the beginners method to throwing knives. here I thought I was going to learn a special new throw and its just half spin throws. the Russian red army has nothing to do with it. plus no spin throwing is way better.
good basic throwing video but not sure how this is russian army style (except of course for the instructor speaking russian). I would like a video of the Spetnaz no-spin method with the same knife. Spasibo.
Depending on what styles of knife throwing you are using.... I think it is a useful skill. If you have no knife on you, you may find yourself in an environment with other miscellaneous objects and being in a situation where you are under attack. If you can stick a knife into someone by throwing it, you can stick a metal shurikan into them, and if you can do that you can stick a pencil or pen into them. It won't kill them, of course, but it will hurt and buy you time. It may ever cause them to turn and run if you are throwing lots of things like that at them. It may be annoying to dodge pillows, lamps, and the like. But it will HURT when you have a pencil sticking into your arm. And if the guy can do that with one, then you can bet others are coming. It can be a useful skill. It is just a matter of perspective. You might throw these objects as you move away to escape. Creating distance is always more desirable than going in with your knife. I don't think I would throw my knife. I would keep my knife and throw something else found in the environment.
Ohhh . That skill is crazy . If i can throw a knife like that . I will be powerfull as a man with gun . Amazing . Keep rocking clapping from india . U russians rock .
Thanks for bringing in the knife throwing tutor dude. I appreciate your U tubes generally, with this one included. Dass Vidanny (whatever that means) - thanks and welcome.
yeah well, trhowing a knife is very complex, and based on the knife and thrower, some are confortable with the no spin, some prefer the half spin, some prefer the full spin, it also depends of the distance ;)
You can put power into the throw and have accuracy if you hold the handle rather than the blade. As an added benefit, you won't accidentally cut off your sausages.
Thanks for these tips on knife throwing i enjoy throwing knifes im pretty good at throwing a axes and hatchets thanks verry much for the tips love ur videos
I love that tutorial on knife throwing and I have to practice throwing mine even though I would not be throwing my knives at anything when I don't have another one to use.
If you use the correct force for the distance between you and the target , the blade should be facing the board....of course u need alot of practice for each distance that you want your target board to be at, but still i think there are knife throwing styles that dosent make the knife spin in mid-air to ensure the blade always faces the target
I was picturing something a lot worse, when he said he sucked at throwing knives. That actually didn't look that bad. Not pro, but you can definitely do it.

Uh just a tip KGB Survivalist, I don't think you should make your UA-cam channel name sound like you were part of a group involved in espionage, internal counterintelligence, and crimes against the state lol
i think when he created it he meant to say KGB survivalist as in surviving KGB
Ah that makes sense. Still lol
Fargraven I agree. Maybe something like “KGB Survivor” would’ve been a better descriptor.
Excuse me but the Russian KGB was an extremely disciplined espionage group that had some of the greatest spies and soldiers the world has ever seen. Crazy men of iron.
Well, that is one benefit of growing up playing baseball.
Half spin throwing is too dependent upon distance. Too much risk in a combat situation. No spin is king. .
You also need to dress like you're from 1987. 😂
prayformojo That was a good year and that fall I started high school. Ok and interesting times for me.
That's how I learned to throw. Daily practice, I was accurate within 3 inches, at thirty feet, with power.
Russia Rocks
thnx for the cool vid. PAT MINTER is one the worlds best knife and tomahawk throwers.he is a HALL OF FAME EXPERT and all around great person.
you can find PAT MINTER on youtube and facebook.he has great videos showing his skill and teachings.
much respect.
"red army style"
no, thats generally how you throw a knife...
There're different styles. Most have spin.
+Hachi Roku thank you!!!! its just spin throwing, its like the beginners method to throwing knives. here I thought I was going to learn a special new throw and its just half spin throws. the Russian red army has nothing to do with it. plus no spin throwing is way better.
This is really great, love the video, great job on throwing the knives!
Do you need a special kind of knife to throw it or can it be any kind
TheRocketBilly Technically yes, you can throw any sort of knife, is it a good idea? No
in the video he is using a glock 81
to have a good throwing it has to be balanced it has to have a sharp tip
cole lolicato it does not have to be balanced and it doesnt have to have a sharp tip
it helps a shit load but
good basic throwing video but not sure how this is russian army style (except of course for the instructor speaking russian). I would like a video of the Spetnaz no-spin method with the same knife. Spasibo.
His knife throwing is not bad. It much better then mine because I don't throw things much.

Your knife throwing is not bad! Great video 👍
Loving your videos man. They are interesting and entertaining. Your commentary never gets boring or repetitive. I subbed.
Alex, how about a video on one of the UZI Tactical pens. Spaciba!
i practiced a bit and i can throw all most anything from screwdrivers to small showels thanks man it realy fun and use full
Those glock knifes are tough as HELL! Good vid.
Subscribed - looking forward to more good stuff like this.
anyone else find the irony in Russian military knife throwing skills using an American K-bar?
Nice video. Good thing to remember with knives 2 is 1 and 1 is none. if you carry a knife always carry at minimum 2.
Oh that Russian background!!! Looks like a scene from the sniper mission in Call of Duty Modern Warfare
I like the walk of shame he does to go pick it up 😂😂😂😂😂
Your knife throwing looks better than the "expert's".
yeah well, trhowing a knife is very complex, and based on the knife and thrower, some are confortable with the no spin, some prefer the half spin, some prefer the full spin, it also depends of the distance ;)
use safety glasses because it can ricochet and hit you in the leg...
great vid ^^
Thanks Alek and Sasha. This is something I can do on snowy days...in the basement with my old dart board. :)
You threw a whole lot better than me! Nice video.
Martial arts knife stars hit and cut deep every time.
OMFG THE KNIFE HITTING THE WOOD AT THE START SOUNDS LIKE A HITMARKER
You play way to much COD
You can put power into the throw and have accuracy if you hold the handle rather than the blade. As an added benefit, you won't accidentally cut off your sausages.
All about judging the distance rather than style of throw. They are standing in the same spot for a half turn throw.
Thanks for these tips on knife throwing i enjoy throwing knifes im pretty good at throwing a axes and hatchets thanks verry much for the tips love ur videos
I love that tutorial on knife throwing and I have to practice throwing mine even though I would not be throwing my knives at anything when I don't have another one to use.
first blade throwing technique I ever learned
If you use the correct force for the distance between you and the target , the blade should be facing the board....of course u need alot of practice for each distance that you want your target board to be at, but still i think there are knife throwing styles that dosent make the knife spin in mid-air to ensure the blade always faces the target
I was picturing something a lot worse, when he said he sucked at throwing knives.
That actually didn't look that bad.
Not pro, but you can definitely do it.
