    Holy frame rate, Batman! It's interesting to think that back when this was first made we all likely wouldn't have batted an eye at it but nowadays it's like watching in some sort of jerky shutter-vision. A great little time machine, thanks for sharing!

    • @H4nnub4l
      @H4nnub4l 3 роки тому +7

      Certainly would have batted some eye because decent systems could run Nascar Racing 2002 and 2003 30-60 fps and I drove myself Iracing ten years ago 30-60 fps. 16-20 in my opinion was not normal at all.

    • @GPLaps

      Its because I was recording at the same time. I think I would get 30fps back then on the PC I had

    • @LupusAries
      @LupusAries 3 роки тому +3

      @@GPLaps Oh yeah, especially since those files were huge, especially with Fraps.
      30 minutes of recording could be in the multiple Gigabyte range, something like 40-60 Gigabyte.
      And it was always wise to record on a drive that was neither your system nor your gaming drive, to minimize the impact of it.

    • @harp2707
      @harp2707 2 роки тому +1

      @@LupusAries God, I remember the days of Fraps filling up my 300 GB hard drive and slowing my PC down bad whenever it was recording.
      I ran Windows XP on a Core 2 Duo Intel CPU with an Nvidia 8500GT for graphics up until the early 2010s; damned thing could barely run Crysis at a playable rate (I'm sure you can remember when that was the de facto gaming graphics benchmark) and it was borderline impractical to even bother with trying to get HD footage of any video games of the time.
      I don't think the younger me could believe that, nowadays, I can be on a video call with a few friends streaming, in HD, what they're working on, while streaming my own work. We're quite far beyond the days of 480p recordings being high quality, and quite far beyond the days where even a sturdy cable internet service wouldn't get you good enough upload rates to stream (though I do know a good few friends who still struggle with their internet speed!)

    not much has changed in iRacing.. this either makes it a really outdated game or it's a testament of a great base game that they kept on tweaking and improving... as much as I am critical of iRacing I think the latter is true.. thank you for reposting your 2009 review

      Honestly it's less of a shock when you consider how the precursor to the iRacing dev team was Papyrus Design Group with the NASCAR Racing series; look how long people have dragged out modding for the last iteration of that.

    Oh man, the Solstice - just when I thought my nightmares were a thing of the past, lol. The Solstice was one of those cars where you mashed the throttle, then had to wait to see what happens, lol. Oh, and the brakes... definitely not meant for something that was supposed to run on a race track of any kind. But, it did fulfill its purpose in making you patient and get a feel for racing before moving up to more powerful cars. In retrospect, you really have to admire the progression system that iRacing created. It really led to super, competitive racing as you moved up the ranks back then.

    Love how quite a few comments are like "I wouldn't be upset if it didn't cost so much"
    Yes you would. The people who play the other sims you think are so much "better" still complain about those sims. rF2, ACC, hell, they'll complain about free to play games.
    You just want to complain because you like it. Some, sure, I'm sure you absolutely believe you feel that way, but you'd feel that way just out of time investment too. It's the fact that it's not completely perfect that bothers you, regardless of what you spent on it, and then it gets passed along that anyone who says otherwise is because of a sunk cost fallacy. (Meanwhile, At least 25% of my Steam games are unplayed despite me most likely paying full price for them... I even have a few PS4 games like that. I do not care about the cost. :/)
    Relax a bit. Just enjoy it for what it is and actually look at what's actually changed. Like in detail, cause despite a few of the comments pretending like nothing's changed, there's a lot. From graphical features, to optimizations, collision model improvements (at least with NDM. Which still has issues but are far less awful). We have new post effects, DX11, updated sounds and ambience, new crowds (Which need to sit), new skys (which needs a moon), dirt, dynamic rubber on the track (which they did turn down the marbles for performance reasons), new tires that most of the folks on the GT side do like lately, etc.
    It's almost like people who constantly blame "netcode" for their collisions without just realizing it's a misnomer for "lag" that I started in a forum thread 10 years ago because I tried to explain how networking worked and people took it as a primary way to blame iRacing for their garbage networks in a car going 60-100mph around a hairpin...
    No. It's not netcode. It's just basic networking and physics. Money isn't the issue here, it's simply time and resources to do it the way iRacing wants to do it. Most of what you get in other games is extremely hacked together approaches. Hell, even iracing's might be, but at the end, I can go drive a Skip Barber on a rallycross track and watch as the track changes. Can't really do that anywhere else.
    I can't tell you to stop being mad and that's not my intent. But at the end of the day, I would like to at least point out that there's a lot of stuff ya'll miss, and ignore, simply because... i actually don't know why. I don't believe it's that you feel they should do more with the money because I feel like even if they did do more, it wouldn't make you happy. You'd change that goal post every time.
    So... go ahead and be unhappy about it. I just think ya'll live with really weird expectations. Not even high ones. Just... weird. Like, completely misunderstanding how video games work weird.

    • @dennisbowen452
      @dennisbowen452 2 роки тому +2

      All you had to say was,
      "Iracing is flawed and my favorite sim so stop complaining."
      Want to feel justified with a sim you spent hundreds on, go ahead.
      Rest of us will enjoy classic sims that don't cost hundreds of dollars with similar issues.
      Or companies that don't send cease and desist letters to indycar over criticisms about their sim.

    The one thing that still hasn't changed is how much I still suck .... beyond that Its a common myth that you can't catch a slide in iRacing (some cars you still can't, lol) but honestly that is the biggest difference from back then ... if you made a mistake you were facing the other cars backwards... and to be brutally honest that's a relatively recent change (last few years, maybe dirt helped who knows) ... also Force feedback was really basic .. you couldn't feel the front tires load or get light under braking accelerating.... I mean... mostly just more and more of everything to go broke paying for and not having enough free-time to enjoy/race most of.
