Oh my, the memories. Possibly the favorite show of my formidable years. Became even better when Gia replaced Jim. It felt more professional with her hosting. Hope y’all are doing great!
The KDOC studio was so small that the Request Video set was just out of frame to the right (stage left) of Wally George's set. We are talking like 30 feet for both sets combined. Seeing this stuff is so sentimental. I miss my youth. Thanks as always for sharing.
Yes! We watched every episode in junior high. We even took a bus from Costa Mesa to Anaheim to meet Joey Ramon! Then we would call in using names like Bertha:). I recorded so many of these I wonder where they are:) Good Times!
Yes ~ Every single day after school ... Waiting with baited breath to see who & what Poorman would bring to the table. It was a salve for 4th period physiology & a reason not to care that I didn't have a lunch pass. Lunch would SOON PASS - and the real music gooroos who KNEW real music - (minus a few of these selected guests), would gather in front of the tube; rabbit ears or not, we all had KDOC. On in time to make it home & off to get dinner on the table..
Just like many of you I watched this religiously everyday starting in jr. high and into high school. Setting the old analog tv to uhf and fixing my antenna to get the best signal and getting lost for an hour in amazing music. i got to be on the show a few times as well. I walked really far just to get to the studios in Anaheim. Those were the days.
You know what was great about "Request Video".During the early 1990s,they were the first to play many & variety of techno/house and Industrial music videos.Like, the Prodigy,Rozalla,808 State,KLF,Front 242,etc.(remember when the techno-rave scene hit LA/Southern Ca. during the early '90s). Request had also different VJ hosts from radio stations,(remember)KNAC(pure rock),Power 106 and the late "Mars FM".
I worked there as an intern 91-92. Fun place. Except for when the manager asked me and another intern to paint the outside of building on Saturday. He said, I'll pay you each $50. What were we supposed to say? So I had blue paint all over me. I guess I must have been asleep, cause I don't remember all those bands/stars coming through there. One time Henry Rollins played. He flicked his hair back and got sweat all over me. Later a groupie came over and licked my face! Ewwwe
Every once in a while I check to see if you posted the episode where Big Drill Car was in the studio and they played In Green Fields live. Probably from 1988 or 89. But I always leave yt disappointed.
Gives me great memories to the late 1980's-early '90s(was still in High School).Does any one remember when Request Video interviewed Depeche Mode at the Warehouse in March of 1990 for the release of,"Violator",album(that same night became the DM riot).
Thank you for sharing this. I watched that last episode and remember watching a lot of the shows from those clips. Wish I had recorded it all at the time. It really was the best show ever. Even if they brought it back now, it wouldn't be the same because it was such a product of the time.
Hi Gia...you're dad did ad work for a car dealer from L.B.C., no? That dealer is my stepdad...he was always so nice to me when I was a little boy- we might've even met...I seem to recall something about ravioli and you working for kroq. Anyway I remember him talking about you pretty much beery time I was around him. And did your uncle or someone have a haberdashery? I still have a sick necktie I kited from the Salty wardrobe with DeSantis tag!
Yes, he had an advertising agency, and my uncle, a haberdashery (bonus points for vocabulary words!) PM me on Twitter @omgitsgia and tell me who you are! Ravioli and KROQ were a big part of my formative years.
Used to watch this show all the time during the late 80s. Can anyone name the theme song @ 0:40 - 0:53? I really liked their set in 1989 with the banners of album artwork just hanging from the ceiling.
Does KDOC have an archive for these episodes? Chapman University should contact KDOC about acquiring the collection to preserve like they did with Huell Howser. This has to be the most complete collection of material capturing a major period of Southern California musical history in existence. This era saw the development glam metal, gangster rap, industrial, goth, ska and other indie sub cultures. Then they could put the episodes on a streaming platform. Hell, KDOC should do weekly reruns (along with Wally George).
@THfanlucy Hi. What I posted is all I got. You see, I was cleaning out a closet and found two old Beta tapes. Before I throw them out, I wanted to see what was on them. I had these old episodes of "Request Videos." As for Gia. Last January, I got a privet E-mail from someone who claimed to be Gia. This person thanked me profusely for posting these old Request Videos. I tried to write back. But I never got a reply.
I love you for putting up these videos! I wonder what ever happened to Gia. Do you happen to have the episode with Tommy Stinson from The Replacements as a guest. I was in the audience that day. :)
@@yoli5779 i think it might have, but there was also another ch, ch 30 or 38, airing local shows with electronic and goth/alternative, specially at night and after hrs
Ok, this has been bothering me for a while now. What's the redhead's name at 7:23? She had a nightlife column in the LA Weekly, and she would come on to talk about clubs and stuff with Gia. It's driving me (and my wife) crazy!
I never missed a show! Gen X baby. Unique and ahead of its time. Thanks for doing this❤
Everyday after school my sister and I would watch this. What memories!!
Then Wally George Crazy Views

My greatest regret is not seeing a taping of Wally George

I used to watch this religiously after school from east los angeles. I loved 90% of the bands they played.

Used to rush home to watch this after school. So AWESOME! I'm happy to see so many others who did the same.
I got to work 45mins late cause i watched it till the end, i was worth it!!!
People put more effort into their hair back then.
How on earth did you know my Dad? He was an original animator for Tom and Jerry, which is why he could do it so well.

Thanx for putting this up! I remember most of those interviews and have some taped. This was the best music show ever!
Don't know how I stumbled on this but I just realized I knew this Gia's dad- he could draw a mean Tom from Tom and Jerry.
Thanks for this upload brings back alot of memories.

What was the name of the host at the 7:23 mark? I think she was a writer for L.A. Weekly. I can't remember her name.
I used watch request video after coming home from school! I remember this day clearly. It was very sad.

Thank you!
Something on my eye... 😢
I'm looking for the Jesus and Mary Chain interview from '92. Anyone have it or know where to find it?
Anybody remember a show similar to this in the mid to late 90s? On public television, I just vaguely remember it /:
i remember one called notes from the underground

I remember watching Beastie Boys Watcha Want premiere on this
I so wanted, briefly, to tell you I was your half brother Pepe from a wild 70's Tijuana weekend.
