Really enjoyed this movie, nice sentimental plot .So many people think that a wealthy environment is what a child needs, but it is actually a loving home that is the most important to his emotional well being, as toys and fancy togs wear out but love keeps the child 'well dressed' for a lifetime .Thanks for movies like this PF!!
A genuinely warm-hearted comedy that is so refreshing! So sweet and simple and down to earth! Eddie Quillen a fine actor and comedian! Highly recommend this movie from 93 years ago!
I have depressive problems, but this movie made me laugh out loud sometimes. It's funny; an in your face romantic comedy, funnier than the the ones now.
I absolutely adore this movie! After working years in retail Dept stores and all of the hierarchy, this pretty much covers most of the "behind the scenes" affairs. The dance contest and the precocious coin grubbing child in the park were great scenes.
I love these films partly because I get an idea of the times my grandparents were raising my parents in the depression era. It's also fun to look at the furniture, clothes and the scenery.
Eddie Quillan was perfect with his performance and wonder why with his comedic talent he wasnt well known like other greats. This is worth a solid 10 rating and highly recommend this movie for viewing.
I wish I would have seen these Eddie Quillan movies before I met him on a few occasions at Sons of the Desert meetings. He was usually sitting alone. I don't think most people knew of the amount of film work he had done. And the huge stars he worked with. Just watched Eddie in Brigadoon dancing with Gene Kelly and Van Johnson
"I can recommend the crab salad." "Hmm..., Have you served any crabs tonight? "Yeah, the old bald headed guy over there!" Hilarious stuff, and Eddie Quillan carries the film through brilliantly!
Sad to think early Hollywood considered these films throwaway products. This one, for example, displays real talent among the principals. The dance contest scene is especially effective. Genuine humor, well played. I hope someone keeps track of all these older efforts. They deserve to be recognized and cherished. NO film is easy to make, and some of the best talent lies buried in a heap of forgotten celluloid. Pity.
It's strange to think that all of this people got old and now they are all dead. Some of those children might still be alive. My mother was born in 1919 and she live till she was 99, just died in 2018.
Are you arguing with me? No. I’m telling you. No, I’m telling you, you’re fired! And let this be a lesson. 🤣🤣🤣 I can hardly wait to finish the movie. I’m loving it.
Go ahead and get Dressed I'll turn my back. "Sob, Sob,Why I haven't got anymore Secrets from you anymore.....LOL." That was hilarious and even the little scuffle they got in at 20 min mark.
Spectacular comedy! Gotta love those old wisecracks. Too bad these days society suffers from the hypocrisy of elites. And how dare children pray to God. Eddie Quillan - boy do I miss the comic genius of Vaudeville acts. Amen.
Ah, the good old days, when you could just drop an unwanted kid off at an orphanage before heading to a nightclub. Apparently adoption was pretty easy back then - $200 down and anyone can have a kid! ;-) Eddie Quillan had a long career. His first film was in 1922, and his last work included appearances on MATLOCK and HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN on tv. He also had roles in a number of major films, including MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, THE GRAPES OF WRATH, and the musical GIRL CRAZY.
Marjorie Kane the cabaret singer sounds so much like Helen Kane. Eddie had a very long career. Look up his older photos and you'll recall seeing him in so many movies and TV shows of the 1950s and 1960s.
You can't beat a film like this to escape from the times of today. This film was an escape from the times of the depression back then too. Love this ! I think I spotted 2 Our Gang kids. 'Brisbane' at 1:05:47, and the blond girl 2 beds down the right.
Kendall "Brisbane" McComas was born in 1916 and about 13 or 14 here, Sadly, he took his own life at 64 two weeks before his pending mandatory retirement.
Lol, that scene with the boss, the boy and the girl was very funny indeed! My mouth dropped open while they were doing it...I liked it, very nice movie.:)
@@barrygoodyear9641 I met Mae Questel in 1986 at a Sons of the Desert Convention in Philly. I had great video footage of her talking to me with Dorothy DeBorba one of the Our Gang kids. I've lost or miss placed that VHS tape. Hope to discover it one day when I take all those tapes out of boxes and transfer them.
"I'm undressing the dummy..." "you better take off those bloomers..." What a hilarious scene undressing scene (starting at 15:00) considering how daring they were pushing it in 1930. It was fairly innocent by today's standards but Eddie Quillan (a great comedian) must have had lots of fun wrestling with this woman Aggie (actress Frances Upton) & having her fall on top of him just before the boss returned (they were having a nice innocent wrestling match). Upton was a good sport too. Nothing was ever vulgar. She reminded me both physically & acting-wise of Woody Allen's regular actress Judy Kavner who developed a similar style years later. In actuality, Quillan was not a comedian though he had excellent comedian timing in this film. He appeared in more serious films like The Grapes of Wrath & Young Mr. Lincoln (both with Henry Fonda), Mutiny On the Bounty with Clark Gabel, Allegheny Uprising with John Wayne, an Abbott & Costello movie, Brigadoon with Gene Kelly, 2 Elvis Presley films in the 60s, 2 Don Knotts films, one with Andy Griffith & an uncredited appearance in the Hello Dolly film with Barbara Streisand. He did lots of TV comedy, westerns & drama including The Addams Family, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Baretta, Perry Mason & his final work on Matlock. His career began in 1922-87. Lots of attractive-looking ladies in this film. (All old enough to be my grandmother since my Mom was only 10 when this was made). The movie had some funny parts -- now this qualifies for a remake.
Esther "Baby" Johnson performed uncredited during the nightclub scene. She originated the baby singing style used by Carol Kane and Betty Boop. The old vaudeville routines were fun, too.
A wonderful show.🎉 Great writing and directing, and the acting was wonderful, too. The male lead was exceptional. He's adorable. Wonder if he's in any other😂 movies. I didn't catch his name.😢
Does anyone know the name of the young actor that appears throughout the film and has many funny adventures?. Does anyone have any information about him?

But back then, we rarely heard of evil people. Now, evil is rampant with molestation, sex trafficking children, you name it.
