The AF perfomance in video mode is almost there. If more than 1 person is in front of the camera the face detection is jumping between people. There is no way to tell the camera take this particular face. The solution? Traking mode. For Fotos it works very good. It should be available for video too. Fuji calls this the flagship camera.

That's nice content to put out. Glad to see Fuji reps putting hands in the sauce.

I recently switched from Sony and I'm loving the camera. I think the autofocus is really good. I still manual focus for most of my shots, but its nice to have reliable AF.
I'm hoping that you guys can add waveforms, false colour and the ability to load LUTs. That would really elevate the overall user experience for professional video work.

Let me just say that the purpose of this video is beyond any of my expectations from any manufacturer. Thank you!

At 7:34 the camera is in area AF mode and you can see, as the presenter moves his head out of the AF area, the camera focuses on the background - but the detection squares still follow his eyes and face! This is really confusing to me as I'd taken the presence of the square to mean that's where the camera is focussing... however it appears to simply mean the camera recognises an object but not necessarily that it is focussing on it. Which begs the question - how are we to know where the camera is focusing in such situations? I came here looking for help after a issue yesterday with the XH2s where I got a lovely scene with a Robin where the bird detect correctly put a square around the robin but then went on to shift focus continually from the robin to foliage behind and in front of the bird... Thanks for doing the video though, although I'm still confused - it certainly helps. It would be really great if someone from Fuji could answer questions in the comments! :)

This is the same issue that other brands like Panasonic have, their autofocus system can detect a particular subject but there's no way to indicate to the camera that they should stay with that subject. I've used Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and the xh2s currently and it's so frustrating with Fuji. With a Sony you can tap on anything you want to track and that's it, the focusing point sticks to it no matter how the subject moves or if the camera moves. Fuji needs to implement a tap to track function.

I think Fujifilm pretty much nailed face/eye detect for humans. It works very well. However, when using the subject detect AF for birds and other subjects (for stills photography), I’ve found it not nearly as good. I have found the ‘hit rate’ anywhere between 50% and 80% at best. Also, as one other commenter noted, when multiple subjects are in the frame there is no way to keep focus on the intended subject. The system jumps around from subject to subject if they are anywhere near each other. I would like the Fuji Guys to thoroughly test and demonstrate subject detect AF for the other available selections other than face/eye and provide the best settings to insure a maximum hit rate. Thank you.

Very helpful, thank you. Might be valuable to describe some use cases. I.e. to use lower sensitivity when there is a chance of another object passing in front of the subject and we don't want to lose focus on the original. An example is following a sporting event and as you track, you suddenly see a lamp post or a spectator pass through the frame.
Another different situation might be when you want slow speed in video to get that "filmic" focus pull. This is precisely why Fuji provides a choice of focusing presets. Whilst the Fuji may not be perfect, I do feel that a large percentage of complaints stem from a lack of the user's understanding. Hopefully this video will help with that.
Finally, your video shows that even though the latest glass perform better, the older lenses are really still extremely usable.

This is a super cool video.
I’m still a little confused what settings I should be using on the new 150-600 for birds. I’ve loved the af for stills, but found it losing subjects even when there is no obstacle that seems to cause it.
Do I need to make it stickier and slower? Or faster so it can react quicker? I need someone to figure this out so I can stop my tests that don’t end up being conclusive lol.

With the h2s being marketed for video, I'm disappointed that the timecode keeps reverting to zero after each clip. I wish it was like my x-t3 where the tc doesn't reset and makes logging footage easier.

I don't want to sell my 3yr old Fuji primes for the newer ones. So have you used any older lenes and seen a big difference vs the newer lens of the same focal length?

Certainly this is much much better than the Nikon Z cameras, but not quite up to Canon and Sony bodies which have been available for a few years now.
    Well done, Fuji

Would really love focus breathing compensation, tracking mode where you can lock onto an object and just slight improvement for auto focus when the person in focus turns around. When the eyes are not in view it just turns the person out of focus then comes back on when they’re facing front again, great for some scenarios but if they are dancing for example, not the best…

I hope to acquire this camera someday. I for one wish they would fix and work on the algorithm for the previous x trans 4 sensor cameras. It may not get this good but, the finding faces where nothing even resembles a face. Although it would be nice to have the added object tracking I would just love a ton less hunting.
