This scene was written by Craig Wright- a writer for Six Feet Under also. Nate’s constant running ties in perfectly with Jack’s line here..the existential crisis of this episode reminds me so much of it.
wow, i totally get this now. it's not that desmond reminds him of his past that's so painful, it's that he exposes the fact that jack's whole relationship with sarah was based on -- a leap of faith.
Also the mind blowing coincidence of the man in the hatch being somebody Jack met randomly once, and during this meeting this stranger encourages him to have faith. Basically these coincidences shake Jack’s skeptical confidence. A few hours earlier Locke told him “each one of us was brought here for a reason” When he meets Desmond again, he starts to fear John is right. That’s also why despite claiming not to believe in the button, he returns and give John the correct code, and even pushes the button himself. Because I say Jack is a believer in fate, but he’s in denial about it, also he fundamentally doesn’t want fate to be real. Hence the denial. Thusly his actions contradict his stated beliefs.
@@jimmy2k4o I think thats also a really good reason for why he's chasing after desmond to begin with. He knows he's seen him before, but he so badly wants to be wrong. That's probably also why he keeps trying to ignore desmond when he asks about sarah, because the only way hed know that is if he truly knew jack. If jack truly doesn't believe the hatch doesn't do anything, it doesn't make any sense to chase down desmond, let alone pull a gun on him. He's PISSED in the scene because he's pissed at the idea that he's wrong, and he's pissed that desmond believes in the this "nonsense". When he blows up at desmond, threatening him with the gun, its over desmond's faith, something that threatens jack just as much.
It’s more than the fact that his whole relationship was build on a miracle. It’s the words “you said you failed her.” Because while Sarah cheated Jack does bare alot of guilt that it was his long hours and never being home that drove her away.
It's a good thing Jack had worn a bandana when he first met Desmond in the stadium. Otherwise Desmond would've remembered Jack's horrible haircut and not recognized him during this encounter in the jungle. And Jack wouldn't have broke down and wouldn't have returned to the hatch to correct Locke's wrong number, and the world would've been destroyed. Yeah, that bandana saved the world.

I was highly overweight at one point, changed my diet and started running about 10 years ago. I laugh every time I hear the quote at the one minute mark... I think the thing is when Desmond said he failed her it brought the emotions of their divorce because in a way he did feel like he failed her not in the way Desmond was thinking but in their marriage.

Gotta love how emotional the men were allowed to be on this show. 👌

Andrea Fornari "What are you running from, Desmond?" -Penny, in the night that Desmond met Jack at the stadium.

Every time Matthew is screaming and yelling like this, it is just emotional mayhem. I love this kind of intensive and expressive acting.

The first couple seasons had some amazing scenes, I feel like it just got way too complex

Hahhha
HAHAHA
Instead of Jacob giving jack a candy bar at the vending machine he should have given Jack a bandana.
Desmond's accent is the best part
hippiecheezburger Desmond doesn’t have an accent, it’s everybody else who does.
Absolutely brother!!

goosebumps everytime jack shouts like that. An awesome actor

Matthew Fox is brilliant in this scene
LOST is and will always be my favorite number 1 show
1:02 when an NPC glitches out and wont stop running as if theyre in combat, preventing you from interacting with them
Underrated comment
I’m sorry but Matthew is a remarkable actor, you can actually feel the emotions, pain in his voice. Is really terrible what Sarah did to him 💔

Jack had some bad lines in Lost lol
