  • We finally got our Amazon BRIS inflatable dinghies and Hangkai Chinese outboard motors out onto the Intracoastal Waterway and a little bit out into the open Atlantic Ocean.
Join us as we drive out there, cruise along the ICW, visit the famous wild Spanish Mustangs on Shackleford Banks, and go a little bit out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Stick around to the end for some of our thoughts on what we can do to improve our boats for next time!

I have a 12ft inflatable with a 20hp , I fish out of Cook Inlet Alaska for Halibut, I have all the safety gear and keep My eye on the ocean. There's been more than once that the weather has blown up before I could get in , I just pick a big wave and ride the backside of it right into the beach. 😮

    Hi
    Thanks for your great videos.
Do you trailer your boat and if so, what kind of trailer did you get or make?
I would like to trailer sometimes instead of deflating it.
    Thanks for any advice?

    Great video!!
Question: how did you rig the boats, or what were they riding on, as you were pulling them behind your truck?? That was awesome and I need to know lol!!
I saw the transom wheels, but it looked like you had the bow (front) either elevated or riding on something.. what was it??? Thanks in advance 😁🙏👍

I responded to your other comment, but figured I'd post it here too so others could see.
We bought some moving dollies at Harbor Freight and put them under the bow of the dinghies.

Thank you so much for posting this. I'm on the West coast and have been debating whether to buy a boat for about two months. I just made the leap last week, and ordered a 12'6" inflatable. I am now shopping for an outboard. I was debating on whether to get a 6hp/9hp, and was curious on estimated fuel consumption. You answered both questions for me. Much appreciated! Definitely go for the 9.9 or even the 12, it'll be well worth it especially since the Initial price isn't terribly different. I think its better to have more power, especially if you plan on take other out with you!
Oh and what color did you get?

Probably one of the cheapest ways to just get out there! We enjoy checking out the boats and scouting for places to sail.
I really wanted to stick around to find out what happened to the skiff, but after SeaTow looked at it and left we went to go find food.

I just got my Bris 10.8ft this week and i got a 15HP Mercury. Haven't tested it out yet due to Covid, my Country is under lockdown. I went with the bigger 15HP engine as it was the max size recommended for this boat plus to help with more persons and weight on board. I will be adding some nav lights and a Garmin 4plus fishfinder to it as well.I enjoy your videos!

    • @HufflerGarage

Thanks for watching! My plan is to get a 15hp on the grey one eventually. (The red one only goes to 10hp for some reason). I'm also planning on getting a Garmin Striker 4 and some lights once the days start getting shorter again.
Hopefully you guys can safely open everything up soon so you can test it out. I bet she'll fly with that 15! Let us know!

      Hey man. Good stuff.
I have the exact same model. I live in North Queensland, Australia and cruise around the mangrove swamps and the bay
      I have a 15hp two stroke Mercury. I started with a 4hp, then an 8, then a 9 and I've been sitting on 15hp for a while.
I had my marine mechanic install a hydrofoil on the back of the 15hp as it would previously take me 50 -60 seconds to get up on the plane. Now it takes 4-5 seconds. This I with myself, two children under 14yo, a 25kg dog, 150AH marine battery, 20 litres of fuel, an electric troll motor and some basic rods and fishing gear.
The 15HP gets me up to 35kmh/ 18 knots EVERY TIME.
As my area has a large tidal range (6 metres max), the Bris dinghy allows me to "beach it" on the mangrove sand bar, go exploring with the kids and come back an hour later and essentially skull-drag it back into the water. The weight would be about 90kg without children or dog in it. I could never do this with an aluminium "tinny" or any small steel runabout with a deep keel.
The dinghy gives me a great power/weight ratio.
Of course this is around the mangrove estuary and the bay. On good mornings, when it's glass, I can go out past the heads, HOWEVER, this is the rare occasion. The dinghy is essentially good for "punt boat" outings. It lacks the deep hull V to carve into the bigger waves.
On afternoons where the wind is up, I stay inside the estuary. I've done it by myself (no kids/dog) and it's no fun, just choppy and slow.
Tips: nothing "earth shattering" here but make sure each of the inflatable cells (including the front centre keel) is pumped up to the maximum it can go -check and pump up before EVERY trip. Nothing worse than the keel being a bit soft and you find the dinghy "shudders" as you zip along the water
If it's left outside get a basic canvas cover.
I affixed a whole bunch of Railblaza mounts to the sides, seats and oar mounts to enable me to fit GoPro, fishing rods, night lights etc.
I mounted moving wheels in the back to help move it in and out of the water, however, I have a small boat dock at the back of my property, so I leave it moored semi-permanently in the water/high tide mark.
It's a great little boat but try not to exceed the function performance specifications of it as it won't be fun.

I chose 20hp (Honda, 4 stroke), since it is the same weight as 15. Adjusted the choice of my boat for it, so it may have 20 hp.

    • @HufflerGarage
      @HufflerGarage  3 роки тому

It's not too bad. You definitely need 2 people to move it once it is packed down. We are looking into building a trailer that we can stack them on, just to make transporting them a little easier.

Coast guard approved shinty’s have 3 or 5 minimum air chambers?

    • @HufflerGarage

From what I can see, the U.S. Coast Guard does not have any requirements on number of air chambers (Canada appears to have wight restrictions based on the number of chambers).

    • @HufflerGarage
      @HufflerGarage  3 роки тому

Is it locked up or just wont start? Assuming that you can pull and the engine spins, make sure the fuel peacock on the side of the motor is on and the safety lanyard attached.
Maybe try squirting some starter fluid in the carburetor. It is also possible that the idle air screw needs to be adjusted.

Safety lanyard is attached, I've even pulled the plug out more to test, fuel is definitely travelling all the way through, I undid the fuel lines to make sure it flows, idle air screw also was adjusted from all the way close to all the open, half screws in-between as well... I'm at a lost here, I emailed the seller the same thing.
I am actually in the Charlotte area, I've been to the part of Lake Norman I've seen in your videos, any chance we can meet up somewhere take a look at the outboard? Maybe I missed something simple but I just can't figure it out.
