72 Tracks in 25 Years | All IndyCar Tracks 1996-2021

- "If you don't like the weather in Indianapolis, wait five minutes, it will change." Well the IndyCar schedule changes almost as quickly. One of the things that makes IndyCar interesting is the fact that they will race literally anywhere that wants them. They will even schedule a race where no track exists and hope that one appears by the time they get there. 72 tracks in 25 years is quite a lot, here they all are.

Comment if you went to a race at a track IndyCar dropped from their schedule
Charlotte
Cleveland honestly, it was chaotic but brought lots of classic moments
Watkins glen
Sonoma
I went to Sonoma in 2014 and Fontana in 2015. God I wish they came back to Fontana just one last time.
I'd love to see IndyCar do an overseas race again, but realistically I sadly don't see that happening anytime soon.
It would make most sense for them to do Canada and Mexico at most. Travel distances and time zones won't affect the schedule and there's good venues in both places.
@@TripleAlfafa silver stone would be a nice track for Indy if it’s ever possible
@@anthonymolina7416 IMO they should do Donnington instead if they must go to UK. In EU, the best tracks for Indycar would be Imola, Assen and Jerez.
i hope they go back to Europe, to maybe Donnington Park or Brands Hatch, it would really bring big exposure for Indycar in Europe
Or bring the Lausitzring Oval up to modern standards and check two boxes at once: Another oval and an international race.
*cries in Homestead, Chicagoland, Watkins Glen, Kansas, Michigan, Milwaukee (imagine an IndyCar throwback weekend at Milwaukee), Montreal, Motegi, Nashville Superspeedway, New Hampshire, Pikes Peak, Pocono, Richmond, São Paulo, and Surfers Paradise*
So many GOOD tracks off the schedule….. pain
😭😭😭
*cries in Vancouver for you as well*
the only one of these that left the schedule for non attendance reason was homestead, motegi, pocono, pikes peak and surfers paradise. the rest of them are gone cause no one gave a shit to attend
@@xSoccerxCorex yeah I think everybody knows that….
Plus it’s also because of last of marketing and advertising, or bad advertising which didn’t grab a lot of attention like Gateway and/Iowa does
I will never forgive ISC for killing Nazereth and Pikes Peak
Thanks for using Bob Jenkins wherever you could, hearing his voice again for the first time for the last time
I wish Montreal returns to IndyCar one year. They really need more Canadian or other international races on their schedules.
There might be an update on the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series schedule so one of the Iowa IndyCar Series series races could be relocated to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Harvest IndyCar Grand Prix could be held on October 16, 2022 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and the Genesys EchoPark Automotive 500 could be rescheduled to Labor Day
I miss Bob Jenkins.
Me too :(
@@jeralddaughtry5041 Me three😥
Cleveland was a circuit even the drivers loved....
Spectators could literally see the entire lap as open and flat as it was....
Beyond that....I really feel the season should be AT LEAST HALF ovals.....
I think they loved the fact the flats were just a stones throw away from the track but I can't imagine anyone being mad if that track does miraculously return
It still blows my mind to this day that they raced at Brands Hatch
That San Jose footage is WILD. Who that that was a good idea?!?
I love that you can tell the era just by the engine notes. But I also hate it.
They kinda did it again with Baltimore and Miami lol
The last year of champ car is like a race fan's fever dream.
Congrats on being the only racing doc voice I actually don’t cringe at and await you’re next offering.
0:39
I totally forgot about that truck, what a disaster that could've been
I loved the Baltimore race, I went two years in a row! There was the ALMS series the same weekend. Great crazy racing all around!
way too crazy with that safety vehicle on track. Considering what we saw happen with Jules, that's not a sight I want to relive.
So many wonderful international tracks, all gone now… 😥
if they're gonna spend a ton of money to bring a track back, it oughta be pikes peak or the denver street course. a pretty sizeable racing market left with an arca west race and nothin else
I went to several races at California/Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, including the last race held there in 2015. I'm still bitter that it was, first changed from the season finale, then dropped altogether.
Loudon was a perfect indycar (cart) 1 mile track. Went to several of the early events. If Pocono ever comes back I’m going.
the crowds at loudon sucked tho
Pocono is never coming back after what happened
Nazareth, Cleveland, Fontana, Michigan, Homestead, Twin Ring Motegi, Pocono, Milwaukee, Surfers paradise.... 😭😭😭
Vancouver.. 😭😭😭😭😭
ahhh the brasilia race, a race that was announced with, if I remember correctly, 4 months and a very long list of renovations/new buildings to be built, of course it was going to be dropped, and man so many good circuits that we don't have anymore for any kind of racing...
Thanks For Uploading IndyCar Is Awesome ☺
I still try to wrap my head around the fact we had an Indy Car circuit in downtown Baltimore.
This makes me wonder if Indycar could get worldwide again, but I think we would need more oval tracks, but I can see Indycar return to Rio and Surfers Paradise.
the sao paulo race will return before they can go back to rio, since that oval is gone
Oh Rockingham what you could have been. And what you sadly ended up becoming :(
Did anyone noticed at 0:39 that close call with the safety truck at Baltimore's T1?
rockingham is the one I miss as a race track :( shame what happened to that track
IndyCar: *schedules a race in China*
Also IndyCar: "ight, Imma head out"
so many great ovals gone . michigan and fontana need to come back above all others
Drove from Cincinnati to Nola for that race..brutal weekend
AS a huge NASCAR fan but viewer of Indy car, I always respected the fact they never as a series had hangups about shaking things up and trying out new tracks!!!!! I've never quite understood the politics as to why they cut tracks fans and drivers love in Indy? If the tickets at the track don't sell and the TV ratings suck I understand that, but if everyone likes the tracks why they cut the tracks out of the season I will never understand. Richmond, Michigan, Pocono great tracks!!!! But if tracks like Nazareth get closed down, nothing can really be done about that.......
0:20 bruh Mike joy used to do commentary for indycar?
Yes
Yeah late 90s IRL is a fever dream in terms of drivers and commentary teams. He usually would do the TNN/CBS races.
He also apparently briefly did F1 in the 90s.
@@interstate366 Yeah for Fox Sports Net. Those were up for a short time before FOM decided to nuke that one account with the US feed calls from the internet.
@@Altamonteric asopher is uploading again but i don't think he does f1
Pikes Peak
Cleveland was such a gem but mid ohio we were hyped when they came back in 07
I think a lot of these come down to stuff that was there fault (Street races in certain markets just not working out in the long term, Cutting Fontana after giving it a death slot in the schedule, Champ Car trying to Neo-F1 by the end) stuff that's kind of half them/half other parties (Certain tracks being too dangerous to run Indycar, bad attendance numbers for X reason, the fact that there was essentially 30 American Open Wheel races a year for 12 of those years) and stuff not their fault (the big league behind the scenes stuff with the Nascar ovals that had most of them gone by the late 2000s, oval racing attendance across the board struggling hard in the 2010s, Certain organizers shitting the bed in terms of promotion/logistics).
They've only recently in the last few years gotten the schedule stable enough to where we're not seeing that much drop-off which helps out with the year-to-year stuff, but i do feel like a couple tracks on this list have all the reason to return (IE Fontana, Sonoma, Michigan, COTA, Homestead, ETC) and should be the series
focus rather than super out there new markets in random ass places.
Fontana is impossible in the 1/2 mile configuration ISC is planning for it, Michigan won't happen as long as Roger Penske is promoting Detroit, too many races in California to add Sonoma back in, COTA dropped IndyCar after getting NASCAR in the schedule, and none of the other ISC or SMI tracks are willing to spend money to promote races.
Yeah agreed on that.
I'd like to see Fontana happen for the morbid curosity but totally could see why not, I feel like Michigan has a better chance now that Detroit has lost a race and it seems like Penske is shopping around town. Sonoma would be better for me Travel-wise as its closer to where i live than Laguna but thats my bias more than anything.
@@Altamonteric detriot didn't lose a race, the belle isle nimby's are about to get their wish and the race moves back to the city. no way they return to MIS, it'll make fontana 2015 look like a packed house
0:20, 1:13, 1:48, 3:37, 3:52, 5:56, 7:30 and 7:52 Atlanta, Charlotte, COTA, Kentucky, Las Vegas, New Hampshire, Sonoma and Texas needs a Dallara DW-12
IndyCar needs to go to Bristol motor speedway after Nashville
and IR-18
Hopefully Indycar returns to Toronto in 2022
It is
Thanks for using start clips instead of spoiler clips!
Hopefully they bring back Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico. If we talk about adding races outside the US it's the most plausible choice.
Idk if anyone else mentioned but Nazareth?
I cannot comprehend when I see the full house of California Speedway and now
Man do i miss the times when ovals were dominating the schedule.
I wish circuits and ovals were 50/50 on the schedule
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT That would be a fantastic balance
@@RenoF1 perfectly balanced
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT As all things should be.
And to think Tony George's dream series turned into CART-lite.
I may be biased as a Brit, coupled with the fact that it's my local race track, but I would love to see Indycar race at Brands Hatch :)
Isn't that track a bit too small for Indycar?
@@lordshankracing4724 I'm not talking about the aptly named Indy track, which Champ Car raced on, I'm talking about the Grand Prix configuration
@@SiVlog1989 oh ok. Makes sense now
0:30 Maryland needs motorsports!, without racing Maryland is no place like home for America and the world
Street track
I agree
I want them to race at Atlanta again
Toronto isn't active, and I wouldn't count on that race ever coming back.
Bruh why was Ronald McDonalds waving the green flag when an official was doing the same thing at the same time lol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Really need a race on the east coast other than St Pete again. Closest race to me in MD is Mid Ohio and that's still a 8 hour drive. Pocono and Richmond would be 3-4 hours and Watkins Glen would still be more reasonable than Ohio.
fans weren't going to any other east coast race outside of pocono, and without a title sponsor they aren't coming back.
8:09 God I miss having Indycar in Vancouver… 😢😢😢😢😢
Hopefully the Formula E World Championship could revive the Molson Indy Vancouver as the Vancouver ePrix
@@jonathan_tong93 I heard that that will be a reality, but it still won’t be the same..
That Rio oval that drove like an roval needs to be rebuilt to the same specifications with only difference is to place deep tire barriers/safer wall on the outside added … if that’s not possible in Rio now because off the Olympic site … then build it somewhere else please mr Penske!🙏🏻
To think they still race at texas but not watkins glen or sonoma.
more people show up for texas then sonoma & watkins glen combined
Losing Homestead was my So-called final loss. Then they lost Wheldon and "Danica," at the same race and even with the new car... just hasn't really been the same
if the isc/indycar beef didn't happen, vegas 2011 doesn't happen.
@@xSoccerxCorex normally I'd agree but the problem was the setup to begin in at least the Vegas event. Danica had expressed an interest in Nascar as early as 2009 and full sent after Vegas, though there were a lot of under lying circumstances, the believe that just the Cart, Indy split of 93-08 is responsible wouldn't give it justice. I know the promos were to bring back relativity to a "dying sport," but the domino's were being dropped weather or not the thing was striving. Now I was 11 when Wheldon died so it may be an instance where I see something I saw as traumatic and built a story around it
I say it all the time, but if/when Indycar goes to Homestead, the moment tickets are on sale, I am buying.
apparently nascar thinks you're a liar, or else they wouldn't had blocked indycar from coming back in 2022
@@xSoccerxCorex Or NASCAR knows that Indycar would produce a much much better race at NASCAR’s best 1.5 miler compared to the cup series with their current ass package. Knowing how NASCAR management is, they would hate to see a different series run a more entertaining race than nascar could currently produce at a track they own.
@@jacobevenson8702 doesn't matter if people don't buy tickets, which is why they left and nascar won't let them back in.
I hope IndyCar Return to Circuit of the America Richmond Raceway Saturday Night Race Milwaukee Miles Surfers Paradise Street Circuit Charlotte Motor Speedway become layout Call Charlotte Roval and Homestead is become Championship Finale and Night Race and IndyCar added Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Mexico Grand Prix and IndyCar Remove of Texas Motor Speedway 2023 Schedule and 22 Race for 2023 IndyCar.
lets not forget New Hampshire, Atlanta, Kentucky, Las Vegas and Texas would have road courses lke Charlotte, COTA and Sonoma
5:49 Pain.
You missed Miami and Vancouver it seems
Well done. F1 will be put to shame to spin the whole new vegas track thing and its lame unability to have a race in downtown Miami
Why does Indy go through so many tracks? There's alot of good tracks that they just stopped going to.
I gotta feeling they'll return to COTA
Miss those old CART/Champ Cars from the late 90s, and those Oldsmobile 4 liter V8s the Indy Cars used to race with.
Instead of racing in streets of Sao Paulo, why didn't they just race at Interlagos instead ?
I mean I like São Paulo, but you’re not wrong
From what I understand, it was basically on the competition end between the TV broadcasters of F1 (at the time: Globo) and IndyCar (at the time: Band) - as they were also the race promoters for the races in the country.
Because Interlagos didn't pay them to come racing.
Toronto
Two versions of Houston
I still can't understand that chicane in Baltimore straight...
07:16 who in their right mind thought it would be a good idea to construct a course w train track crossings in it?
Gives it a "Dukes of Hazzard" angle. Should've given the cars horns that played "Dixie".
Cool compilation, but you've mixed ChampCar and IRL like it's the same series. Current IndyCar stats does the same falsification, for example, acting like Bourdais and Tracy are their champions.
that is because it is by indy logic so yea
It's IndyCar "Mythstory". They also still recognize retroactively created/assigned champions for the period when there was NO point system from 1909 to 1915.
I remember the Asian cancellation policy. Every year there was a new one that obviously had no chance of working, and every year it would get cancelled.
why they try?
in the .... texas ... 5 . 50
THEY RACED IN ZOLDER???
How many of these tracks has Dixon ran at?
48
Come back to Brazil!
7:21 IT´S SÃO PAULO NOT SAO PAOLO
0:30 what commentator is this
Indycar shoud race at zandvoort road corse whide banks
7:13.
IndyCar at Dover sounded like a awful idea
Dover spent lots of money smoothing the bumps out of the corners to cater to the Indy cars, I think Indy car only raced there once. It was a brutal race from what I remember lots of crashes!!!!! I was excited to see them race there, but yes its too treacherous for the Indy cars too high speed for only a one mile track steep corners.
@@KK-ex5zu It was two years, 98 & 99. They actually raced there in 1969 too. That's where Mario destroyed the 1969 Brawner Hawk.
I guess this is not all of the tracks..
São PAUlo*
That's not IndyCar tracks, that's IndyCar and CART/ChampCar tracks.
they are the same in the books now
