I have the same issue with the idle status. When I unplug and then plug in the charger, the charging status becomes "charging," but after a while, it goes back to idle again.
I have 4 batteries, three 180 watt power adapters, and two Dell M4700 Laptop computers. Of the two Laptops, one recognizes the power adapters, and the other doesn't, (suspect bad DC Jack). The Laptop that does recognize the power adapters charges all four batteries to 100%, and is able to tell you the "Health" of the batteries. That being said, the other Laptop that doesn't recognize the power adapters does not charge any of the batteries, nor will it be able to tell you the "Health" of the batteries. Like I said, all four batteries accept a charge of 100% only difference being the "Health" of the batteries. The manufacturer, size of the batteries and condition ("Health") reported are as follows, Dell 97wh [Normal], M660 87wh (non OEM battery) [Normal], Dell 87wh [Normal], Dell 65wh [Moderate]. So as you can see, the M4700 BIOS uses "Normal" for "Good" or "Excellent", and uses "Moderate" for "Poor", in this case a scan of the "Moderate" battery revealed it can only hold a charge of 61% of being 100% charged. Hope this helps some people that are seeking a sliver of battery system troubleshooting knowledge?
