To all the haters, i think he does an excellent job, Steve or Harris are entertainers while Matt is more of an analyst and has a calmer approach. If you don´ t like him simply don´ t watch the video but stop insulting the poor man, he´ s doing his job and bringing you FREE content! I think he did great and if you think you can do better then have a go i´ m pretty sure most of the commenters wouldn´ t be able to do such an objective yet decisive review!

Poor Matt, he probably has to read through all the comments saying "where's Steve gone?" and "matt is so boring" and it must be horrible for him, Matt knows what he's talking about and I think it's a great review.

The moment i saw this guy i got bored already. Steve r u ther?! Autocar please entertain us again. Carmakers are now making better cars, and what r u bringing us? A man that would tell us that the cayman has now more hp and make us feel that we should have just read the brochure or visited porsche's website and see the specs instead?! Oh c'mon autocar! We want steve!!

1seipai Wouldn't fit is the story. In any case it'll sound the nuts and you'll very quickly forget it doesn't have a Mezger just like the 991 GT3

Jonny Oliveira rubbish engines? turbo v6's that produce a ton of power and torque is rubbish? I agree that F1 has been a lot about money but the engines have nothing to do with that. these v6's in a way saved f1 as it draws in manufacturers to make f1 engines. honda is back and there where rumours that bmw was interested

How about the GT3(991) engine in the Cayman - with manual gear of course.
We are mere mortals. We don't deserve that. That is reserved for the gods!
Motor with the intakes doesnt fit, also it's mid-engined so cooling would be an issue and it cant put up a manual gear box. Too much torque.
Daniel Christo Normaly the manual shifter will allow more torque than a PDK.
How about the 4.0 litre from the 997 gt3 rs4.0? That came with a manual.

The 4.0 litre was a really nice engine, and yes it had a beautiful tran with no problem at all.

MATT, you're so descriptive and informative I just wish you were a little more animated! Feel free to be a yob (or whatever you Brits say) and let loose! Just show us how the car feels with your animation! That's the only way we can know what it feels like!

Must be hard putting all this work into these great videos only to have a bunch of whiny, entitled children complaining about this and the other thing. Anyway, don't listen to the idiots. Lots of great info, great driving, awesome filming.
I'm always impressed with guys that are able to drive hard while narrating its got to be mentally exhausting. This review is great clinically but doesn't do much emotionally. The sound of that 3.8 makes me feel warm and fuzzy though.
if you want really great review by actual can enthusiast, watch Chris Harris.

this guy has the same credentials as steve sutclife in regards to being a talented writer first then youtube presenter second.. its blatantly obvious from his car control that hes an amazing driver that gives a great detailed review..

Agree you can't deny Matt's talent as a driver.
Regarding PDK, that's my preference. I've driven a GTS PDK and a C4S manual. As I'm not a racing driver, I can get more out of a car with paddles and a pair of clutches. Why someone would prefer a stick I can also understand, however.
More Sutcliffe!!! No offense to the driver, but I couldn't make it 2 minutes into this video without wondering if he was trying to put me to sleep. When I come to autocar I want to see Steve reviewing and its just that simple!!

I just love Autocar - fantastic review once again.. So what Porsche are trying to tell us is, get the Cayman GTS and it needs to be PDK - 7 gears and shorter ratios or get a manual but suffer slower times.. not about pushing automatics are they.. much.. you could get the GT4 but they are sold out!!

Sorry if this is a bad question, but one could "modify" a Cayman, right? Like put aftermarket engine enhancements to make it even more powerful?

Good review, but when you're talking, try to lower a bit the engine's noise, it's sometimes hard to hear what you're saying
It should have PDK version. lots of boxster base owner already did the 3.8 conversion and PDK works perfectly so why not.
I think Matt is great journalist. But for gt4 review I was expecting Steve
Yay another new Porsche that looks exactly the same as all the others
The Cayman has grown on me I do admit that but I still see no reason in having one in their ( Porsche ) line up. We have the Boxster and the 911, someone correct if I'm wrong you have the all out street/track monster and than a baby Porsche. Why the Cayman ? Anyways, I knew this was coming it was only a matter of time. Looks good can't wait to see more videos.

Now- who paid attention to various news, found out that Porsche 'could' build in a manual gearbox, because Porsche Rennsport had a different model with manual in the works and it was a synergy. Last model after the GT4 which came out was a 991 GT3 RS. WITH PDK! Is nobody except of me interested, what Porsche has in the works (will definitely be something very sporty) which also gets a manual??? Wanna know!!!

First Porsche in a while that I've actually liked the sound of.
Just saw who was the presenter and had to stop the video :( Maybe he is a great content editor, but not right for your on camera stuff :( I hate criticizing people here, but please know this is purely professional. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, just want to watch the show and enjoy every second of it.

Porsche Carrera no because people are dumb enough to pay through the nose for some thing that a zl1 camaro or z28 with much cheaper over head will beat, in 0 to 60 and on a track. It's sad, trying to be exclusive, they will over pay for a nice slow track car, and I've seen more caymans on the road than i care to count. plus up keep prices on a porsche, yeah their you go, lol, a hard head makes a soft ass.

Actually, Matt is very informative in a way that Chris Harris would never be as he is too busy monkeying around. Just go and watch Chris if you want that.
It's nice to see another style of car review, an informative review which talked alot about the car's technical changes.
This guy holds the world record for putting me to sleep at the fastest speeds. (I'm saying he's so boring he puts me to sleep in race speeds)
His voice works better than my 30mg Xanax.
The audio was horrible but the car looked really good though. For the money z28 or z06 is a better choice.

I have to admit, when I was loading this video I was saying to myself "I hope Steve is reviewing this". It's more about the car though but wish Steve had done this one.
I can't think of a single thing this car does better than the 997 GT3. Inferior power:weight than a £55k Lotus Exige V6 too. Really can't see what all the fuss is about. I have a lot of respect for Matt Prior but I'm left no clue as to what makes this car such a big deal. Does sound good though, I'll give it that.

offering only manual transmission was a head fake by Porsche so people wouldn't notice that adding PDK paddle shift would make this car even faster at the N-ring.
They did the same to the new Boxster Spyder except that didn't want it getting the GT3 dept suspension and steering. If a wet sump GT3 engine was possible in a Porsche Spyder, wich would obviously come in PDK and Porsche added GT3 suspension, it would be faster than any of its variants like the Cayman and faster than the 911 GT3 itself. The fastest cars have the engine in the middle and no weight at all on top.

When will F1 get to Mid - field Raceway ?
No PDK...for now. I wouldn't put it past Porsche to do about face on this and offer a PDK option as some sort of "special edition" or "GT4 RS" or some other contrivance next year or the year after. They aren't ones for leaving money on the table.
They wont. The head engineer at porsche has said the PDK would be too much work with electronics/weight/tune. Theyre already sold out with a lot who missed out. Porsche have fulfilled their goal.
