The secrecy over all these years is intended to protect the police officers and not to reveal the tactics used. The GSG 9 often takes good places in competitions with special forces around the world.

Germans constitution / basic law no allow to use military on german soil without a mandate of the Bundestag / Congress / Parliament. This mandate is only active if germany is directly under a thread by a foreign force or in NATO calls out Article 5.
The use of the Bundeswehr/military on German territory is prohibited by the constitution - with the exception of disaster relief. This has to do with the Nazi regime (1933-1945). Back then, the boundaries between police and military were blurred. That should never happen again.

GSG 9 (Grenzschutzgruppe Neun = Border Guard Group Nine) is our counter terrorist unit. It is part of the federal police (Bundespolizei). The airplane in this video is aa real ariplane, the Landshut. It was the first mission of the GSG9 and it was a full success. Until this day they don't show wich tactics they used because you still use the same tactics successfully today. We also have an army it is called "Bundeswehr". However, the Bundeswehr is constitutionally prohibited to perform operations inside of germany. There are only two exceptions: 1. Natural disasters (in Germany, these are usually floods); here they are allowed to "help" 2. In the event of defense, i.e. when Germany has been attacked by another country (not terrorists; so only when there is war) For everything else, we have the state police and the federal police, which also includes border protection and the coast guard.

The Bundespolizei was the former Bundesgrenzschutz=paramilitarian Force.well trained and very good. And wwe also have a state police in every State of Germany. These have their own Special fo4ces,named SEK Spezialeinsatzkomando. Each does have around 100 up to 150 men.
1:20 GSG9 is not "like the police of Germany". It's the Specíal Police of Germany. Like SWAT. And they are not "popular". Their names are top secret. But yes. They are appreciated, unlike OMOH in Belarus, or similar Special Polices, that work only to surpress.
They aren't your regular federal police. They are the guys and gals you call when shit really hits the fan, everything else fails and especially when the AO is outside of the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. They are (to my knowledge) also the only police unit that actually carries assault rifles, the reast, even special units like the SEK only have MPs (automatic pistols, like the MP5) at most...
