Bullshit. I am a german and nobody behaves like that. Stop talking shit propaganda. A friend of mine since 6 grad buyed a little one what you would call a castle. First there are strict rules due to the "monument protection office" (if google transalte it right), then you dont buy something that wortfully with such an amount of rules and duties and do NOTHING. The pure thruth you are financially able to build one is the absolute counterpart to your bullshit anti-german propaganda. Nevertheless - if you mess the castle up - the government will fuck you up. With fines at first, than with duties like "you have to do this and that cause the roof is like blablabla" and in the end - they can kick you out. Because its not just a structure you can buy but a historical worthfully building - therefore - goverment is like the landlord.

But to be fair, most was still lost. The monuments mostly were rebuilt but the cities themselves could never been restored.
When i visited Amsterdam i actually was astonished by the pure history of this city. You could see the old core of the city and how it became more modern on the outskirts.
Germany couldn't rebuilt the old cities and the buildings that were hundreds of years old. And to this day you are clearly able to see that when you walk through the streets, with modern houses next to old houses that they were able to restore.
Also: After the war we didn't have enough time and financial strength to restore everything. But still the people needed houses, so we built a lot of cheap and practical buildings which, sadly, were quite ugly, especially compared to the very old historical buildings.
If you see pre-war pictures and post-war pictures you know that we never really restored the beauty of our cities. That might be the clearest reminder for us what war does to your country.

    •  7 місяців тому +3

Depends. Major industrial centers were hit hard, but many smaller cities were hardly damaged at all. Many small towns in particular still have most of their really old buildings.

In Germany we like to build our houses solid, especially in the south of Germany where there can be harsh winters with a lot of snow. The roofs therefore are covered with special tiles that are very robust. On average, such a roof lasts around 70 to 100 years. These roof tiles nowadays can be found in several darker colours and in different materials, but in old times they were made of pressed clay, which was available almost everywhere, was inexpensive and sturdy, and the natural color is reddish-brown.
In some regions, however, you can also find dark gray roofs made of slate, which is also very sturdy. You saw a lot of them too in the video, but they aren't as noticeable as the red-brown roofs ;-)

    • @Balleehuuu
      @Balleehuuu 7 місяців тому +7

And cities with historical old towns will have regulations to keep the overall picture of that part of the city. Like forcing every new roof or building to use a specific colour and sometimes even match the old material.
Most bigger german cities has a maximum hight you can build expecially again for their "old towns", that is why almost all german skyscraper can be find in Frankfurt, where a part of the city (the finance district) just couldn't handle the demand for more space without higher buildings.

4:33 Armenius (Herrmann) successfully led the Germanic tribes against the Romans.
He himself had a Roman education.
The Romans then stayed west of the Rhine and left the eastern bank to the Germans.
The Germans were divided into many tribes. Over time this became many principalities. That's why Germany has so many castles.
It was only when the French Napoleon occupied Germany that German nationality developed.
Only together could the Germans get rid of Napoleon. This then led to the founding of the German Empire.
This is German history in a few sentences.

    •  7 місяців тому

Arminius was important, to be sure.
But we don't know much about his life. And we should be aware that there were deliberate efforts during the National Romanticism of the 19th century to turn him into some mythical "founding father" of the German nation.

    • @Arsenic71
      @Arsenic71 6 місяців тому +1

And this unification of all the smaller tribes and kingdoms, dukedoms and so on is what is meant by the first verse of the Deutschlandlied (the 3rd verse is our national anthem) when it talks about Germany above all. They mean a unified Germany is more important than anything else. It was never intended to mean that Germany should rule the world or is more important than other countries.

The shingles are made from terracotta (which is also used in India) - essentially a type of clay, that when fired (to harden it) - turns into this typical orange/brown color (I am guessing this is from iron present in the clay).
You can find this type of roofing all over Europe as it has been traditional for a very long time.

If Germany is a must visit to you guys: Please take ur time. You need at least a month to see a lot. Otherwise it'll be a tourist visit only, which means you will see the main very crowded "attractions" and the rest you won't see at all.
Pro tip: Visit smaller places, villages, something not necessarily on the road map for a normal tourist.
Visit places like Esslingen and Ludwigsburg, Gengenbach, Alpirsbach, Freiburg im Breisgau(There are plenty of Freiburg's =free castle)
See Berchtesgaden and Oberstdorf, Füssen, Ulm, Köln, Hamburg, Cochem, Heidelberg, if you're into cars and such...Stuttgart has the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche museum, Munich has the BMW museum...
    You get the picture?
Yeah, sure, see the major tourist spots, but don't miss out on tiny German villages...they are lovely.
I can imagine that the peace and quiet in Germany will be the first culture shock for you. It is quiet here!
Even in huge cities you will realise how quiet it is...and I bet this will make you feel uncomfortable...at first.
Then you get used to it and when you get home you will be annoyed with the constant noise back home. ^^
    I warned you! ^^

Most places have development plans , so if you wanna build there it blends in to the older buildings , the brown or red -ish colour of the roof comes from the tiles which are made from fired clay. Old buildings are mostly protected by law , so you can buy them but you have to keep them as they are . Half timbered houses , houses from fired clay bricks or sandstone are very popular because it is easy to make and are known to last for a long time ... there are many houses or buildings in germany who go back to the time line of Cesar.

Germany has many very beautiful places (as other countries has, too).
Owning a castle is very expensive if you want to live in it. Depending on the size of the castle, the upkeep of the castle and the expenses (heating, electricity, water, etc.) can range from around €500,000 to several million euros a year if you want to live in it yourself. That's why many castles (not all) can be visited for a fee, as this allows the castle owners to recoup some of the costs and maintain the castle.

Most of the houses were built by people several hundred years ago. Of course not churches and functional buildings. They have been repeatedly modernized, enlarged, expanded and in most inner cities there are regulations on how the outside should be designed.
In the game “Manor Lords” you can see how a city is created.
Dresden, for example, was completely destroyed in the war. New Soviet style prefab blocks were built there and the historic center was left fallow. It was only around 2005 that a private initiative made up of investors was found to reconstruct the part according to the old model. The buildings are modern but the facades are historical. I was there once when the weather was really good and the view is breathtaking.
Is there a documentary about it?

      *"modern" buildings:
mostly made in the 70ies and ugly a.f. (being built quickly, cheap and without even trying to restore some of the former glamour).
Of course, there are some exceptions where more modern buildings are looking stylish / fancy or even trying to imitate the old styles.

I consider myself more well-traveled in Germany than most other Germans. Still, I have started to translate old German folk tales in recent years which motivated me to research the different regions of Germany - and this added _so_ many places in Germany I want to visit to my bucket list.
This video covers some of the more impressive views of Germany, but that's still barely covering the surface - for example, I think it should definitely have included the "Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe" in Kassel. It's an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and I recommend watching some videos of it!

The color of the roofs comes from the clay that is used for the roof tiles. These tiles are very heavy duty and if one gets loose and hits you, you're out. Maybe even for good. There are some other colors as well, like blue and dark brown, metal roofs for industrial buildings and some churchs, and some old houses still have roofs made out of reed. In most historical cities you're only allowed to use the orange tiles. And sometimes even the shape is set by local government. Some old houses are even protected by some kind of historical building act, which means that it's your house but you can't just do what you want with it: Need a new roof? Tiles has to be exactly like the old ones. Need new windows? The new window has to look like the old ones. You want a wall inside gone to make 2 rooms as one? Nope. Want some new hand rails on your stairs? Only if the old ones are damaged. And who pays for the extra costs of making your house look like the old one? YOU, of course. Well, the government tells you what you can and can not do, but It's your house, so YOU pay for it... Oh, and you want some solar panels on your roof? Like green energy and stuff? You're kidding, right?!
That historical building act is important to preserve the old houses, of course. But some local governments have some really strict rules which add a lot of costs to owning a home, sometimes making renovations almost impossible to pay for.

Others mentioned the roof shingles. But I want to add the note that, due to freezing temperatures in the winter, it is rather unusual to have actual paint on the walls of old buildings (since the color would peel off). This is why old churches have the color of whatever stones were used in their construction, and the same applies to the red roof shingles as well. This is quite a contrast to many places in Asia - when I visited Thailand, for example, it took some time getting used to how colorful many temples were.

I think the red roofs have historically been created due to the iron oxide in the tiles. Tiles are robust and can be made very thin due to their individual production, which saves weight. I think that then spread.

Frankfurt main train station and the area around it comes to mind, a place actually many tourists see since Frankfurt is the biggest airport here, and when you get to the main train station you feel like you are in Somalia or something.
As a tourist that wants to enjoy that "classic beauty" I would stick to mostly small to mid size towns like Rothenburg, Dinkelsbühl, Quedlinburg, Potsdam etc. For bigger cities go to Munich, Nürnberg, Dresden.

The German language is not tough to learn. It is a year of tears and the rest of your life a joy.
English is a year of joy and a life-time of tears.
    Choose wisely! ;-)
    Don't listen to Mark Twain!
It means: German is very logical, very structured and very much obeying its own grammatical cases.
So, once you got it and it clicks, you got it forever, and it is getting easier by the day.
Englsih is the exact opposite, easy to learn, but hard to master. German is hard to learn, but easy to master.
Don't give up! If you are on the verge of: "I want to learn German and possibly move there" go ahead...and do just that.
It'll pay off in the long run.
    Why?
German is not only the language.
For people from India especially interesting might be the structured language part is also the same structured learning part you will need in the sciences and engineering.
It is no coincidence, that the best engineers come from Germany. We are raised to be exactly that. Smart, curious and innovative beings that make the planet a better place for all of us.
Be part of it! We love smart people...come and live with us. It will only benefit you.

Germany is one country with literally hundreds of castles from north to south from east to west. It is a pity that a lot of the "old" towns and cities were destroyed by the raid of the American and Britisch bombers during WW II, but partly the old buildings were renewed and restored. All these castles, especially those on the heights, were not built for war, but for peace.
The more castles were built by a ruler, the more the land around was pacified.
Only nobles were knights and if they had not inherited anything, they became robber barons and marauded through the countryside.
The castles offered protection because the attacks were concentrated on the surrounding villages, where there was livestock and much more to be taken, and the farmers could retreat to the castle to at least save their lives.
The people provided for and fed the lord of the castle, who in return was obliged to protect his farmers, if necessary by force of arms. The last place of refuge in the event of a storming was the so-called "Burgfried". This word also contains the word peace - "fried" = "Frieden"

Large buildings: roughly paid for - by the public. Mostly by the citizens (through various "constructs")
If it comes to "government" this is a complicated issue, as Germany consisted in the past (before 1806) out of hundreds of largely independent territories.
As an example I picked the following 3 which are rather close to each other. But with completely different political (government) structures.
    2:23 Nuremberg
    Free Imperical City (a city-state)
Ruled by a lord mayor and the city council (both elected by the citizens).
The scene shows in the first place the Imperial Castle. It hosted for long the imperial regalia (which are now in Vienna). It was however an honor to host the emperor when on visit and the imperial regalia (thus Nuremberg paid largely for this as well).
Was also one of the biggest cities in the empire. Two (of the many) Free Imperial Cities - Hamburg and Bremen - managed to stay independent and are nowadays own Federal States of Germany.
    2:07 Bamberg
The capital city of the Prince-Bishopric of Bamberg
Ruled by a prince-bishop (elected by a chapter of local clerics)
The legend says that the bishop denied the citizens a plot to build a city hall - thus they built it in the middle of the river (2:14). That's not really correct. But it shows that also these cities had quite some self-rule.
    9:17 Landshut
The capital city of the Duchy of Bavaria-Landshut.
Ruled by a noble family (succession).
Parish Church St. Marin (completed in 1501) is still the highest building made out of bricks (without concrete/steel enforcements) on the planet.

Hello, I am from Germany. 🤭 Of course all these shown places and landscapes exist here in Germany. But keep in mind that the whole video was made like an advertisement video about this country. They picked only the best tourist spots and showed not one single picture from normal german streets and modern cities. Yes, there are many nice litte cities, especially in the south of Germany that have still a lot of middle ages buildings and great churches and castles. Maybe you know that modern Germany was founded in 1871. Before that it did consist of endless amount of little kingdoms and so this is the reason why there are so many castles. But do not think here it's a big deal with royalty, today most castles are used for public buildings, hotels, universities etc. Those that are still in private hand belong sometimes to monument protection societies and can be visited for money.
During the war many cities were destroyed nearly completely and not everything was build again to the old layout. There are many places and cities that look completely different from what you sae in this video.
Nevertheless Germany is a beautiful country, thats right and its also really diverse from the islands in the see to the mountains in the south.
On thing I like to suggest: Your blend in video ist not completely to be seen, there is a part at the bottom missing. You should try to adjust this in future.
Thank you for your interest in my home country, I would really like to visit India to see at least one or two places from your gigantic country. 💝

If you build it not like the government want it you must do rebuild the house or change the outside for them. Maybe it sound like unfair but the government want that there are no disturbing buildings in the area that breaks the harmony of the citys and towns. You asked what kind of statue that is. Germany is part of the old Roman Empire and has many influences from Roman culture such as architecture, art and literature and this statue also represents a Roman legionary. These statues exist in various forms throughout Germany and used to convey to every traveler that they were now in the territory of the Roman Empire.
