    ===========================================
    Historical Dave Roberts' base steal against Yankees in 2004 ALC Game 4, bottom of 9th inning.
    This is the closest to what we watched on TV that late October night in 2004. As the hand writing sign by a Sox fan wrote "THE GREATEST COMEBACK IN SPORTS HISTORY!". This fan is a genius as the event unfolded in the coming days.

    My dad was a devoted Red Sox fan all his adult life, through all the years of frustration of never seeing them win a world series. He died in February, 2003 at 85 years of age. But I'm sure he cheered like "hell" from the "best box seat in the house" when 2004 happened and the Babe's Jinx FINALLY ended. The greatest year in Red Sox history, by far.

    I was a junior in high school in 2004, and my best friend and I had a job cleaning his dad's office on Sunday evenings. They were from north Jersey, huge Yankees fans, and he was checking the score periodically throughout the evening as we were cleaning (we tended to do so pretty late sometimes). We finished up right as Roberts scored; I was tired and ready to get to bed.
    "Dang it, Boston just tied it in the 9th!" he says. "That means extras, if Rivera can even hold them here."
    "Ah, even if they win this one, you're still up 3-1. What could go wrong?"
    "I don't know. I just have a bad feeling about this one. No team has ever come back from 3-0 to win a postseason series, but this feels like it could happen."
    "It's NEVER happened before, and you're worried about it? Lighten up a bit, man!"
    "Maybe..." But I could tell he wasn't convinced.
    And then those next three games unfolded, with Boston doing the impossible, just like he predicted. Like those folks holding the signs at Fenway, he essentially called it right there. So many times, sports are the best drama we could ask for.

    I was living about a mile from Fenway at this time and you could tell something crazy had just happened because you’d hear this roar echoing through the streets while the broadcast was catching up to reality.
    No series will ever top the 2004 alcs. They’d humiliated us for 3 games straight...and THIS moment was the beginning of the turn around, against the most lights out closer of all time. Still, to this day, the only team who’s ever come back from 3 games down to take a 7 game series...not to mention a sweep of the cardinals in the ws. The streets of Boston were chaos...it was unbelievable...

    Best quote ever was made in 2004 after the Sox came back to beat the Yanks 4-3 in the ALCS.
    Comedian Steven Wright:
    "I looked at the faces of the Yankee fans after the Red Sox beat them 4 straight and I...felt sorry for them...because...they weren't used to it. We were. 'Wait until next year' was our mantra."

    I'm a KC/Atlanta fan and once the Braves got knocked out by Houston in the NLDS in 04, I pulled for the Red Sox the rest of the way, and was very happy to see them beat the Yankees on their way to the WS against St. Louis, then beat the Cardinals to win the 2004 WS. Too bad Ted (Williams) could have lived a couple more years longer to see them win it.

    I was there, sitting way up in the bleachers, practically under the old scoreboard. From my very distant angle, I thought Roberts was definitely out. I had to see the slo-mo replays later to know for sure he was safe. One of my great disappointments in life was that once the Sox tied it in the 9th, I had to leave. I had taken the public bus to the game, and the buses in Boston stop running by about 12:30 AM. I made it home just in time to see the Sox win in the 12th. I still have the ticket.

      Wrong. That was 9 minutes of pure clutchness by Tom Brady. 28-3 with over half the 3rd quarter already passed by? EVERYONE thought they were dead but they were absolutely perfect from there on our and got the first win in an OT in Super Bowl history, and they win the game without leading the game for 0 seconds. Let that sink in.... Tom Brady threw for a record of 466 yards in that game (He broke it the next year with 505). This come back was more impressive because it's a 1 game deal, meaning you either go big or go home every time you advance in the playoffs.
