All you have to do is compare James' singing facial expression from the first shows during "that section" with his expression during this show. In the first shows he's squinting his eyes, wide mouth and leaning back on high notes - all signs of imitating high-note singing. Here, he is much more relaxed because he is in all likelihood actually singing an octave lower as he claims. James was very obviously lip syncing in the early shows, and due to the push back him and the band received he decided to start singing an octave lower.
I'm no singer and I understand how challenging LaBrie's role in DT is, especially approaching 60. I just don't understand why he doesn't do what he's done in the past: exclaim "sing it", hold the microphone to the audience and let them take over. He has done this in many shows and DVDs and no-one has ever had a problem with it.

Denies lip syncing but looks very suspect at 7:06

He is actually singing an octave lower, I guess this helps resting his voice. The thing I don’t understand is why that particular part… I mean it’s not a vocally challenging part. In the meantime I would find it sad if he’d do it in a challenging one. Anyway, I’m a singer myself, I understand he can’t always be 100% when you’re touring this extensively for more than 30 years, not to mention his age.

@@marc-olivierbaril8211 I love James, he has never disappointed me (been to 10 DT shows since 2009). But I doubt that he's actually singing an octave lower... I guess the lower voice is also a backing track. I'm OK with it, but James isn't really honest about it

@@MrMaxDupree I get what you ate saying but why would he lie about singing this part an octave lower… what would be the point ?

Its not lip syncing when you add a background chorus from a tape to enhance the overall sound. James sings live together with his own harmony vocals. Not the Paul Stanley way where you mime to your own voice in both verses and choruses.

He may be accompanied by a backing track but I think he is singing live. In the video clip at 7.06 his vocals sound a bit off key.

At 7:06 he doesn’t sing in the mic at all, while his voice is blasting full power. I mean, saying fuck you to those who points out he’s using backing tracks is just plain lame. Call it lip sync, playback, backing track, whatever. Point is you have no idea what is his live voice and what’s pre recorded. That’s a bit sad.

Bruh it’s just a crappy video. At the end manginis’s ending drum fill is heard but not seen. And don’t try to argue Mangini is faking it because that would be dumb!

At 7:06 you can tell they're using backing vocals. DT is my all time favorite band and have seen them live about 10-12 times(lost count), so I could care less what the accusations are :)

Here you can at least hear him singing the lower octave, unlike the first few clips that circulated of him clearly lip syncing. However, even without the lip syncing fiasco, what does it for me is the sheer contrast between the timbre of the studio take and his actual live voice. Anyone with half an ear can hear the distinction between the clearly articulated studio track, and his "wah wah" overly-glissando, pitchy live voice. Its so frustratingly obvious, and to deny all of it, then start singing an octave down only after you've been found out is making Milli Vanilli roll over in their graves, and they aren't even dead yet.
Also note how he isn't doing the hunched-over, back-to-the-audience position during the section in question anymore. Now all of a sudden he's front and center, stranding straight up. Kind of like when some guys are called out on their bullshit, and they get super macho and defensive and puff their chests out and act like its your fault for rocking the boat, not theirs for being dishonest.

One of milli vanilli is dead. Not sure which though
