I love this! Our wedding was very similar. We had 9 guests in attendance and invested in a great photographer. I'm glad to know that there are more likeminded people out there. The marriage after all is the most important part, not the wedding. ❤

Lovely video and wedding photos! My partner and I got married last year with just our 4 kids, one of our son’s girlfriends and our 3 dogs. We rented a house for a weekend on Lake Michigan and got married on the patio. Each of the kids contributed to making the wedding happen. Best of all it has inspired our teen age/young adult kids to consider sustainable and minimal weddings for themselves.

Oh that’s such a great example you’re setting. And how cute the dogs were invited too 😍

How interesting (and funny) that our "wedding stories" are so similar! Just like you and your husband, we have troubled family lives and we didn't really care if any of our families will attend. We arrived in the U.S.A., went to the courthouse in the town we lived in and scheduled to be married the next week. My family was in Poland, my husband's family 3 long days of driving away. We told them, but of course they didn't have time /or initiative to come and join us. I bought my dress in Poland, so I already had that. It was a simple ceremony with only 3 friends. My husband likes to joke that it was the best $35 he ever spent 😉. We soon left for our honeymoon/camping adventure in the western part of the U.S.A. (in an old Toyota Pickup). While on that trip I bought another "wedding dress" in a thrift shop in Arizona and Steve, my husband took some photos of me in that dress in the desert (probably the coolest photo shoot I've ever done, I am not a professional model though). Later, about 3 years later, we decided to have a "real" wedding photo shoot and instead of hiring a photographer we used a tripod. We chose a beautiful, old fort on the Atlantic coast beach for the location. I used the same thrift shop dress and bought some flowers. We made an all day adventure out of that! Of course we had to take many, many photos to have a few that turned out well, since you can imagine that without a photographer sometimes we would stand in the wrong place or get in the shot too late (for the camera timer)😅 It was a lot of work, but we got a few (probably 15-20) really awesome photos that we'll treasure forever... By the way, what a wonderful wedding photo shoot you and your husband had... Amazing location! Wow! You both look stunning!!!

Great video! Simple Wedding ist the best.
We had a corona wedding with 15 people in total and a barbecue in my mamas backyard. It was the best day ever! It reflected us how we are…Simple, lovely and funny.❤
Do what you want and not what other people want!

Twenty one years ago we invited 9 of our closest friends and family to a late summer gazebo in a public park for our wedding. My dress was a black gauze with fall colors, and my new husband wore a brandywine shirt with black jeans. It was very simple with no food. I believe that it is not about the wedding but the marriage and relationship that two people share. Your picture shoot was absolutely gorgeous and the fact that you did it three years after the original, if I understood you correctly, is the proof of at least the start of a great marriage. May your lives be intertwined, yet separate, and may you grow old as we have together. This grandma approves 💕

Oh what a beautiful wedding it sounds like you had!
Yes we took them 3 years later, so I’m happy to say for us as well the marriage was more important than the wedding!

I absolutely ADORE this perspective and action-approach, Saga! So simple, so luxurious and truly a wedding-personified. THIS is the true definition of love, union and marriage; I am so inspired by it, and you -- to celebrate any occasion through a quintessential, personal lens!

I thought you both had a 'destination wedding' for a moment! I'm glad it was not.
I am very much of the view that 'blood is thicker than water' is nonsense. If one's family is toxic, it's right to cut people out of one's life.
I love your description of your simple registry office wedding in Sweden with modest rings. There is no need for these occasions to be anything beyond that.
I will not be commenting on UA-cam very much from now on, but I've really appreciated you channel, Saga.

Thank you Saga the photos were really beautiful. People with okay families dont always understand families where there are problems and I admire the way the two of you fitted in with your own circumstances. I am much older but your ideas may well suit younger family members. Bless your marriage.

Wonderful to hear you married.. 💐❤️
    All the best !
I really appreciate your valuable and open remarks.. and it's so inspiring and good to hear how you overcome toxic environments and realise something of your own which is respectful and based on love. I think this is so important because people tend to step in the pathways set and do things the way they experienced them.. of course I write this without judgement because I can imagine that it must be very difficult to break out of toxicity because childhood and youth forms us so much. Still, we do not have to bring the trauma from past relationships into the new ones. I really like your open dialogue on this and I'm happy to see how you two question what you experienced/ learned to be the right way and create the environment which suits you.. if it comes to living, travelling, marrying..
Such a good contribution.. I wished you had more people listening..

Thank you Saga. You have answered a load of my questions about you and your story. The photos are quite stunning and anyone would believe you are a super model from them. You have so much natural born beauty. Please keep sharing other parts of your story, for example what jobs you did in the various countries that you have lived, and how you came to live in them. Peace and joy to you both.🙂

What a wonderful story. Well done ! The pictures taken later on in this manner : perfect.
Not allowing toxic people to interfere with our most precious moments seems like an obvious thing to do but this goes on everywhere as we cater to traditions that favor appearance and concerns that have nothing to do with the two persons getting married. Stress, huge spending, crazy logistics, catering to guests' idiosyncrasies and self obsession : why would anyone subject to that today ?!
The focus was you and me together, joy and intimacy. What else ?

Hey Saga! I'm so glad to hear this news, I wish you a lot of happiness!! I really appreciate your ideas and lifestyle.
I think minimalist people are doing a great job of curbing the global warming that threatens our future, or delaying it until a permanent solution is found.
Happiness is not found in material stuffs, but in social relationships and goals. We should avoid consumption that is not really necessary. Of course, this will be reflected in our wallet as well :))

Thank you for sharing. I think what you did was just perfect. The question of how to deal with toxic family members when it comes to weddings can be super stress provoking. My husband and I have one daughter and I can’t imagine what it will be like if she ever decides to get married. We have several very toxic family members. My husband and I have been married for over 30 years, however, I have been completely rejected by my husband’s family. They do not acknowledge my existence yet my husband continues to interact with them. Can’t really imagine what I will do at a wedding with them present. Obviously it will be up to my daughter and her partner to decide what kind of wedding they want and I will 100% respect their wishes but I’m having difficulty getting my head around how it will go if my husband’s family is present. Namaste.

I'm a Catholic/Orthodox traditionalist when it comes to Marriage - particularly when I am getting Married. I'm also a childless widower and she was a fellow Catholic. My fiancee is Russian Orthodox and when we get Married, I want it to be a good small Church Wedding without too much showy, expensive, material costing fanfare afterwards. I wish you two made one well in your Married life together, and I look forward to seeing another one of your videos!

This was the attitude of my grandfather and my father. My Grandfather was first generation born here in the USA. He married a first generation Swedish lady. He had this no waste about everything. No extravagant spending or usage anywhere. My Grandfather had a very correct view of everything is limited in its' existence here on earth. He was a farmer that was all about saving natural resources when possible. My Dad was like that as well. He let that morph into being quite a penny pincher as well. That just about drove my Mother crazy. He let it morph into his political views as well. That put him squarely in the path of being bamboozled by the narrative of the robber barons.

Toxic Families? Some things tell me the families have legitimate concerns such as the families living in different countries and the possibility of their their child or loved one relocating... and if travel restrictions are a result of war it would be like experiencing a death in the family. Then there's religion... some religions tolerate polygamy. Then there's the enthusiasm of a minimalist lifestyle... are you doing that to appease an impoverished spouse or if it is to eliminate clutter and stay organized will it develop into a obsessive compulsive behavior that deprives your spouse. Then there is the topic of that ring... it looks like it came out of a luck charms cereal box. Seems like the families are concerned about deprivation from every angle imaginable while the couple is fixated on sexual appetite and nothing more... except interior design of a minimalist which entails taking a room and making it empty.

I’m from Southern California where we have a severe never ending water shortage. In the 70’s we were told not to flush the toilet at night. So recycling paper and plastic makes more sense than wasting tons of water washing dishes. Think globally. If you’re one of those people patting yourself on the back for driving an electric car do some research. Electricity is made with coal which is a brutal industry to the environment and people and finally Johanna all this flying around the world, how big is your carbon footprint.? No patience with virtue signaling.
