What's more awesome, the fact that this madlad stranded 30 kerbals on the mun, or the fact that he took the time to move them all out of the craft to take a screenshot
That’s what I was thinking, how long would that take!
If it takes around 8-10 seconds to EVA a kerbal 1 by 1, And if he had 36 Kerbal's, It would take between 288 seconds(or 4 minutes 40 seconds) and 360 seconds(or 6 minutes) I have done MATHS
@@danielwenzel3877 Might take even longer, if you take *"accidental head bumping"* in account, which can double the time taken to EVA 1 Kerbal to the right place.
So I'd say that it's closer to 6 minutes than to 4 minutes & 40 seconds.
Both
When you're already stuck there, might as well take a photo for the next people to come along
Imagine being one of the Kerbals who was stranded by SSTO hearing that your being rescued by an SSTO
Ikr
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
You’re either persistent or insane, depending on whether those following attempts succeed.
In Kerbal logic, it makes total sense.
They might actually have been slightly disappointed by the second SSTO not being stupidly bigger.
true dat
Imagine that you are a Kerbal!
Lmao, I talked to you on reddit a few months ago and you said you "wouldn't bring back blunderbirds unless someone dumped two dozen kerbals on the mun or something funny like that"...
Well here we are.
Get me this game and bb will be here Forever.
GCCB 4 His old rule was that he would never visit the same place twice in a row. He quit Bluderbirds because it just became a set of missions to pick up one or 2 guys from the Mün or Duna. We gotta make things interesting if the Blunderbirds are really gonna come back.
@@t65bx25 gotcha
@@t65bx25 pickup 50 duuds and a crashed spaceship from the Moon in one launch then.
GCCB 4 He’d need a good excuse to bring along the ship, and 50 is a little excessive. You wouldn’t know this if you haven’t played, but the Mün is the Moon, and that’s where he’d want to go least.
They thought it was impossible. The Blunderbirds are BACK!
When were they gone?
First life on lathe and now blunderbirds. Thats cool thx matt
@@chaos6839 He has said multiple times that the series was pretty much over, unless something really funny came up. I.e. 30 kerbals
Times are good... Well not in general, but this is nice.
Yea. Its been a while...
"They are the blunderbirds" missed this intro so much
yea
so have i
I screen recorded the intro when i thought it was gone for good, i haven’t been missing one bit of it!
I never thought I'd see the day where Matt aligned himself with the media and called the runway the "tarmac".
Nooooo not the dreaded tarmac
Next Week: I made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement (Sorry for bad spelling)
@@nickolashogg259 nooo not the dreaded media
No Drama Lama It’s not one the Media would tell you about
It’s literally the same thing as calling the road “the concrete”. Runways are rarely built with tarmac, so calling them “the tarmac” is even worse that calling the taxiways/apron “the tarmac”.
So I suppose I underestimated how strong the nuclear engines burn. I think I'm gonna chill out with the 30+ kerbal missions so this doesn't happen again :( Hahaha thanks for rescuing them Matt!!!
And then there's me piling so many tourist mission in one trip... Scary stuff when I design a multi-goal ship, like one that carries 10 tourists, a land station, and a lander to Mun, and bring back some undisclosed amount of ore and science data... Without the massive mk3 aircraft parts.
Sometimes my mad genius terrifies me. It did happen one time before the ESA update. All for the sake of efficiency and staying on the cheep cheep.
Commenting for recognition

The fun feeling that Matt is able to fly this massive SSTO and do a charming mission but doesn't notice that the problem with steering the craft was simply that the front gear he used has no steering

I thought it was just a UK vs US English thing, like pavement/sidewalk.
To make large landing gear steerable:
- place it to servo (I use biggest one, but maybe something less is enough);
- disallow servo full rotation and set angle limit (I use +-5 degrees);
- map servo target angle to Wheel Steer in Action Groups;
- set Absolute Control (for auto-return to 0 degrees when you are not steering);
- set Inverted Control if need.
Voila! You can steer your craft without on/off engines.

Thanks! KSP's lack of proper nose gear is... well, it still is stupid, but at least there's a good workaround now.
Matt: "bruh"
Music: "how daring! how intellectually superb! what splendor I felt reading this simple yet magnificently phrased piece of type!"
I saw that post when it debuted on the subreddit. And I thought to myself “huh, this would be something for blunderbirds”
Some time later… “And they are, the BLUNDERBIRDS!”
Just when we needed blunderbirds, it came back.
WHEN WAS IT GONE LIKE WTF
Now we just need them to save the dragonfly

I love the idea of a bunch of stranded Kerbals walking around aimlessly, just picking up rocks. Eventually just devolving into a giant fight when the realization they can't go home really sets in...

I find "taking care of Kerbals" to be essential for my interest in KSP. Landing a probe on a Comet is just training for such. It's a good skill to have in real life as well.
How is taking care of kerbals going to help you in real life?

I'm sitting here trying to not get triggered that the nuclear engine tanks aren't symmetrical ane there's a nosecone on the top right one
I would have just put it on top of the SSTO, attach it with a truss, and used the nose down nose cone on each end of the crew module to make it look sleeker.
@John Phox Lol felt like I was hitting a higher level in kerbal when i started making asymetrical heavy landers with a large mining rig on the side using the CoM tool to reposition the CoT so it still flies/lands straight. Top tip kids - check your CoM doesn't move much when your tanks are empty/full before you bother launching for Moho.
The OCD gang is with you

Gotta love the blunderbirds, and it’s the best every time there back
15:20 what do u mean matt that is the most textbook kerbal decent and landing i have ever seen!
Is the asymmetric design intentional?
I'm talking about intakes that are in front of NERVs
TheMihanoid their was a MK1 crew cabben
I think the rationale is that it would be pretty unrealistic to run a supersonic intake through a crew cabin. And for such a big ship, the minor difference in drag wouldn't really matter.
The way all of the Kerbals were just kinda huddled around like penguins is hilarious
Blunderbird was always my favorite series on UA-cam......glad to see it come back👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I saw that post and already KNEW that matt's gonna do Blunderbirds
Wow, the KBS is now in collaboration with the show. Love where they’re taking it.
Honestly Matt, I really really look forward to your KSP vids every single week, and they drop at the perfect time for me to watch them, every Saturday night!
When I saw this was a Blunderbirds episode I got SO HYPED!
Guess what I'm trying to say is, keep it up! And thanks for the hundreds of hours of content, absolute legend
You made me love SSTOs like that. I made similar one, less crew capacity, but with ore hold, mining thingy and converter in cargo hold. Took off the Kerbin, landed on Minmus, refueled, went do Duna, transferred crew to station on Duna orbit, went back to Kerbin, landed with 2500m/s dV left

Yes, wheel/landing gear are still relatively borked from the reword that made them very drifty a long time ago.
it also had added a ton of really weird bugs that seem to mostly be resolved

Try using the Medium landing gear, the one with the single axle. It has steering so you can maneuver the craft on the ground.
I use it for my aircraft and it works way better.
I've always experienced that it is easier to accelerate at slightly higher altitudes. Yes, there is more air down low, but there is also more drag.
Wow!!! Thanks for the video upload and keep it up!!!!!
