I can't believe this is goodbye to Frieren for now. After half a year of Frieren Fridays I'm devastated to say goodbye even if it's not for good. I adored every single episode from start to finish. This anime truly is one of a kind and one that I hold very dear to my heart. And this ending to the season was beautiful. I can't wait for more once it finally comes back! Will definitely be rewatching soon, excited to re experience it and pick up on all the tiny details I might've missed first time around. 12:50 About Methode in the last fight of the second exam she says that she can fight fern and at least restraint her if you see that scene again when the clones are disappearing we can se they left a faint smoke and if you see the scene where methode appears she is really close to fern clone meaning either she killed it or restrain it so at the end she won against fern or at least stall her enough to get destroy when the demon got killed.
denken is defintely my favorite, he went from "oh he looks like the typical arrogant old noble mage" to "i NEED him to pass"
This director making the adaptions for Bocchi the Rock and now Frieren back to back is freaking nuts. Dude is so talented as well as his whole team, I want this studio to stick together forever.
It seems you don't even know how this Manga got this beautiful adaption we just and the whole ep1-28 it's all thanks to producer Taguchi, Shouichirou he's the reason. He's a freelance Animator but he's well known in the industry, according to him one day when he went to get some food and sake 🍶 he came across "Sousou no Frieren" he just decided to buy it and take it home. After the first 5 chapters he was in tears, he loved the Manga so much that he brought all the volume that was out back then and decided he was the one who will bring this Manga to life.
That's when he went to take permission from the Mangaka and then pitched the idea to Madhouse which they gave the go ahead that's when bro wrote to some big names in the industry which he knew and dream of working with about this "Passion project" and many producers and directors hop in. The rest is history! If you want the interview let me know. Without him there will be no Frieren today so let's give this man Taguchi Sensei his flowers. (sorry for yapping this much)
A perfect ending for this masterpiece, one of the best anime adaptation ever. This isn't the end, just a new beginning of something greater, I will miss Frieren Friday tho, 2nd season for sure, we can wait.

Methode is lowkey, and they'll get into this later, but she is arguably one of the most powerful of the examinees. No concrete spoilers, but thus far the only real teaser we get of that is if you really pay attention, she's the one who solo's the Fearne clone during the 2nd Exam.

U are literally spoiling it that she is one of the most powerful mages in the first class mage exam.
If you watch the second test over again, you might see that Methode actually did quite a bit during that part of the exam.
She used powerful and specialized battle magic (like that one where she sheilds, then turns the spell back on her opponent).
Her impressive mana detection was crucial for locating clones, including ones that were good at hiding themselves.
Her skill with restraint magic was what held Fern's clone in place, and kept it from ambushing others.
She can even use some amount of healing spells, which is Goddess magic usually exclusive to priests like Sein or Heiter.
Besides that, we have this episode: rather than be in fear/awe of Serie's overwhemlming mana, her first thought about the elf was how small and cute she is. An unconventional perspective that also shows she wouldn't falter merely based on someone's strength.

Methode seemingly from the few scenes she is in. Is suited to reconnaissance, locating and interrogating, and has anti mage spells where she negates or turns back spells against the user. You could tell that she is pretty powerful out of the bunch.

In their world there are no washing machines, everything has to be washed by hand then left to dry for hours, in winter the process becomes a huge nuisance... it's a spell that makes life enormously easier!
That spell is going to give her the biggest return in time which is a limited resource for humans. Truly the most op spell.

I liked all these *kids* came to pay tribute to Frieren; Denken, Lawine, Kanne, and even Lernen in some sense. But what I appreciated the most was that Wirbel came to thank Frieren for Himmel's hero party being his childhood role model, and that he told good story about Himmel that made Frieren understand him a little bit more. :)

Methode fought Fern’s clone off-screen and she survived it without serious injuries. She’s pretty powerful.

Lernen is absolutely strong enough to beat Frieren, Serie herself even thinks so and I tend to trust what Wirbel thinks about Ubel.

A sequel will definitely be made, but I'm really sad.
I was hoping that a sequel would be decided to be produced right after the show aired, but I'm disappointed that that didn't happen.
I'm glad Denken and Wirbel, who I like, passed.
Besides that, I thought that Land and Method would also pass the exam, so it was good.
Übel has something mysterious about him, so that may be the reason why he passed the exam.

Talking about Fern's and Frieren's relationship, did you notice the shift last episode?
After the staff broke, Fern was asked if she was Frieren's apprentice and she stayed silent. Stark had to confirm it for her, because she was so shaken in her believe in Frieren.
But towards the end of the episode, she says with conviction "I am Frieren's apprentice!"
I think it's an important nuance when talking about their relationship at this point of the story.
haven't been commenting in your reaction series much, and only recently caught up. It's tough having to wait again. I remember Freiren being this thing Gigguk recommended, and hoping it's gonna get an anime adaptation from it being not popular. Now its so recognized which shows how great this adaptation is. I hope we don't have to wait 3 years for the next one
Always so fun watching your reactions to this wonderful show. Being a manga reader I'm further ahead in the story and there's a few events coming up later that I can't wait to see animated. Madhouse has always been one of my favorite studios (probably as far back as Tokyo Babylon), so I was a prime target for this adaptation.
To answer your question about who's my favorite character among the new crop in the Mage Exam arc, I'd say Methode. When I first read this arc I immediately loved her attitude, the way she's so soft-spoken and tender, so knowledgeable, mature and composed. I also appreciate Denken's development. He brought much needed contrast with the rest of the mages, who for the most part are pretty young.
I have to say, Ubel is the one I was really apprehensive about. I admit she's very interesting and her backstory is something I immediately wanted to know more about. But she's a real danger, what with her capacity to kill without remorse. She's rather paradoxical as well: she's capable of copying abilities through a form of 'empathy', yet operates from a very cold and calculated place. So far she's displayed character traits that you'd find more readily in a demon, which is a major reason why I find her so unsettling.

Serie is this anime's one and only tsundere, and she does it SO HARD.
Also, random observation about the series as a whole: I keep thinking about the "folk magic" that Frieren and Fern keep collecting and it seems like silly practical things at first, but consider this: totally cleaning clothes without damaging them is actually very complicated and delicate work, whereas something like "throw big rock" or "fire anti-demon beam" is powerful but very straightforward. I think that's why stuff like "remove tough oil stains" is considered legendary-level magic, because even our modern science struggles with that. Stuff like Dungeons & Dragons conditions us to think of magical power level in terms of combat effectiveness, but if you look at the required complexity of the magic instead of the damage output, I think you start to see things more like Frieren does.
Anyway I binged every episode of your Frieren reactions in one sitting (with a brief break to go pick up a grocery order) and had a lot of fun, so thanks for making the videos. I *think* I Liked all of them, but I might have missed a couple toward the beginning. I'm gonna subscribe to your channel, if for no other reason than it'll be fun to see how you feel about season 2, whenever that happens (which is not soon enough, no matter when it happens).
I need to sit with this anime for a while to see where it sits in my ranking as well but it is truly. Special. So beautiful. So heart warming. Theres really nothing else like, i cant wait for another season, im definitely going to be reading though the manga in the mean time, ive loved the reactions!

Methode if I remember correctly, barely got injured in her battle to hold off the Fern clone when shown the aftermath. A lot of ppl were both overestimating Fern and underestimating Methode in that matchup
and there's a good chance that she may even have beaten the fern clone
She is a very bad match against Fern. Her shield counter is insane and can handle Fern ZoltrAK-47.
Fern is not a very Agile mage so touching her wont be a hard Job. And once Methode touch her, the fight is instantly over.
Ubel honestly scares me a little. Even Wirbel said it would have been better if she died. I thought she might become Series student in place of Fern, but thank goodness that didn't happen. She would have been even more dangerous than she already is.
nah she needs to be stronger. Cos the new characters (not mages) you will see are strong af.
She sort of did. First class mages are supposed to be Serie's students by default.
I get that, I think it's the fact that she has no limits and is ready to kill when it benefits her that makes her scary. Nevertheless I like her and am glad she's alive, hope to see more of her next season

Actually, Methode used a lot of magic during her appearances. For some reason, you are just forgetting. She was the one who killed the first clone that Denken's party encountered in the dungeon by blasting it through a rock wall. She tried ot use her magic on Frieren and healed the injured mages because she is one of the few able to use magic and priestly powers. She clearly more than held her own against the Fern clone, as the devastating remnants of their fight showed. Again, there is a lot on which to base an assesment of Methode.
Frieren being barred from entering is like a parent being banned from watching their child give a valedictorian speech at their graduation, all because the principal holds a childish grudge against the parent.
Sorry Himmel, but a tearful goodbye is the only appropriate one for this finale 😢 thanks Mai for your review as always! Gone and bought the next volume, need to know what happens next…

First of all, I didn't expect that every mage left would've passed! Can't say I'm not happy though, and I liked that each of them gave Serie a different reason to convince her (Methode's one was the best 😂)
I laughed when I saw Übel still following Land, unaware that it's a clone XD
(Props to Land for having the balls to challenge Serie like he did. What a chad. I'm not surprised he kind of impressed her.)
Frieren and Wirbel are the unusual duo I didn't know I needed to interact until now!
What stood out to me during Wirbel's conversation was that Himmel and his Party are now remembered because of their good, little actions and not because of some great feats.
I think it's for this reason that we have yet to see flashbacks showing the Hero Party fights (and probably we will never see them). Instead, we know all of the little and meaningless (on the surface) things they did, the ones Frieren now keeps on remembering from time to time.
This is the most important teaching the manga has given us: that the little, insignificant and daily things are the ones that make others happy ❤
Wirbel was inspired by Himmel to do the same for his own village, and that's the reason Frieren could reassure Himmel that "the world has changed".
Speaking of which, Stark is the perfect representation of this type of Hero, considering how much the people of the village they stayed in for a few days has come to like him.
There are people who made some statues built to prevent a loved one from feeling lonely in the future (Himmel), and then there are others who attempt to commit a murder in order to being remembered by their master (Lernen) xD
Thankfully, Serie remembers all of her students, and will keep her memory of him too.
She's just the ultimate tsundere.

Himmel's final line hit me right in the feels. I was not ready to say goodbye to this beautiful anime and I couldn't help to cry a bit, despite what he said 🥺
(Damn him and his ability to even break through the fourth wall and say the right things at the right moment!)
But hopefully Frieren will come back with a 2nd season (so we'll cry again and again).
Regarding my favourite character of this arc, I'd say Denken is probably the one who I liked the most, but Wirbel is a close second.

For Lerner’s action, in previous episode Serie did say some pretty hurtful things about how she regrets taking human apprentice because they live so shortly. Lerner would probably never fight Frieren even if he had the chance to win and he’s getting old blahblah so I think that really got to him.

I am Japanese. When I first read this manga, I thought it would be quite inferior to the previous adventurer parties.
However, I feel it is a better party than any other in history.
I was negative at first because animated works rarely surpass the original.
But this anime is one of the few exceptions that exceeds the original work. It turned out to be a very wonderful work.

This anime was really a big welcoming surprise! Just as Himmel was loved by the people Stark is as well people's champion if you see once again in this episode. I think he will also be remembered by the people for ages. In a way Frieren passed the exam because Fern is going to share the laundry spell anyway with her 😂 I'm really going to miss this show and hopefully returns in 2025 with season 2 because it only gets better! 😭
P.s. when Fern said that people love Stark she probably was thinking: "as long as it's no other girl" 😁

Lernen acts that way because of what serie said last episode. Serie siad that Lernen is strong and someone that could even potentially beat frieren but hes old now and will die soon which is a big disappointment to her and why she thinks she shouldnt take on human students.
This obviously effects Lernen making him believe that if he could fight and kill frieren then Serie would be proud and finally get the infamous student she supposedly wants.
Obviously as frieren said Serie is just an awkward tsundere.
Frieren is the only anime for a long time where it got me excited every week again waiting for the next episode. Before, I'm pretty much tired of anime for many years now because i've watched so many(i've been watching continously for almost 20 years and probably have watched 1000+ animes). Especially when almost all of anime are following the same trope over and over again.
That's why even popular animes now like MHA, JJK, solo leveling, demon slayer, etc. I can't even finish those because of how much generic tropes they have (i mean it make sense, why change it if it still works right?) I can't even finish most of anime now i just ended up just watching 2 or 3 episodes and get bored and i immediately stop watching.
That's why I'm happy that watching frieren somehow made me feel the joy of watching anime again.

My favorite new character is probably Denken or Ubel. I hear Denken is more important in the story later as well so I’m looking forward to.
Some people judged Lernen too fast, like you did here ... He is a very skilled and powerful mage who has a chance again beating Frieren if he plays his cards right, even Serie said that. Lernen is old now and will die soon, he wanted to leave his name in history to be remembered as practically "someone". Maybe he will be remembered with his golem-like spells but he doesn't realize that, but in his head, he just wants to leave his name in history like Flamme did.
Absolutely it's sad that if it wasn't for frieren he would die thinking he was a mistake and waste of time for Serie to teach because he was only able to be a dissapointment to her that's hurtful to hear for anyone, which sadly Serie is at fault but even herself doesn't understand like Frieren did a long time ago that the way they say things may hurt others even thought what they meant was something completely different.
Favorite new character?
Denken closely followed by Methode. No contest.
But I do ship Kanne and Lawinne as much as the two main couples. Just Kanne getting down on her knee before Lawinne cemented them as one of the three main couples for me, besides Himmel/Frieren and Stark/Fern.

A little bit information from manga.. when Serie granted mages any spells that they want, she will lost the knowledge of that spell and need time to re-learn to gain that knowledge. Since she knew how to have clean and spotless clothes through magic, now she lost that knowledge, so she probably have to clean her clothes manually.
That's why Frieren said serves her right in the end.
Spoiler alert of next season:
I thought it was only the spell Denken asked was so special? That it needs a hundred years to learn, exceeded a normal human lifespan, impossible for Denken to learn it, so Serie chose to use some kinds of “transfer” spell to transfer her own learned-knowledge to Denken. For other simpler spells like laundry spell Fern asked, Serie can simply give them grimoire to learn by themselves.
@@linlucy733 Nah, laundry spell is beyond legendary SSS+ Tier. Even the goddess of creation would not be able to relearn it. Hence why, Serie felt defeated :3

Although in the manga it is more noticeable, both serie and frieren have that behavior, it is more like friendship and respect, both know that as time passes due to their condition of almost immortals, they will be the only faces they will see, since due to the human condition and During our lifetime we will all leave and only they will remain. Now that it's over, the next season there are some tremendous heavyweights that will premiere and I know that one of them will make more than one cry, good reaction.

Why metode can pass? I don't know the specifics, but if you look at Episode 26, metode can handle fern clone, which will be difficult, because after the Maze is completed by Frieren we can see the traces of the metode battle against Fern's clone, I don't want spoilers, but in the manga shows some of her magic.

Also, just like how you stan (or love) for Feiren, l stan for Sein. I respect her ways. You may not agree with how she goes about things, but it's admirable, awesome, and cool nevertheless, not to mention how she is as a person. At the end of the day, it just depends on what kind of values and perspectives we have.

It's a split between Ubel and Denken. This isn't much of a spoiler as you could guess as much from what we've seen Denken's story now and later in the story made me cry he really is a wonderful character. Ubel just because I have a type, and that type is unhealthy.

my fav character is laufen, she has good heart but lack of battle experience, im sure if she have more battle experience she could beat ubel easily.
I really like Wirbel, but favorite is Denken by a mile.
Someone said that the reason Serie passed Ubel without saying much is because Ubel have killed the class 1 exam supervisor, who was Serie's student.
Not all first-class mages are Serie’s students. She must have known him, but that doesn’t mean she taught him.
The whole scene with Lernen is a direct reference/comparison to Himmel telling Frieren in episode 12, I believe, that all the statues are really there so she wouldn't be alone in the future. "we'll leave something behind for you to remember us by".
Lernen practically echos Himmel: "I don't want her to be alone in the future". Before that he says that Flamme was the only student of Serie to leave her mark on history, so after she told him last episode that he wasted his life, being timid, doing nothing of importance, that he is a disappointment to her, he seeks to do something grand, something that Serie might be proud of.
(remember, Serie also told Lernen, that he could never beat Frieren, even if he got a chance to fight her)
The one thing wrong with his logic, as far as I'm concerned, is that some of the strongest demons are still around, including several Sages of Destruction. He didn't need to live in the era before the demon king died to seek them out and go down in history as a heroic mage.
