I have several of these players, obviously out dated for video playback but it is a really excellent CD and SACD player. It also cannot play audio disks that you self record.
Just wanted to thank you for the tips about SACD. I just got one of these in and it would not play the SACD layer until I did the diagnostic setup and auto adjust for 1) CD (pressed audio CD) then 2) SACD (using hybrid - Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms). Only took a few seconds but now I can play SACD layer from the hybrid discs. Sweet! People in forums are talking about replacing lasers, I wonder how many did this without truly needing to? Thanks again for the tips 👍
Glad I could help! It may stop reading again in the future but at least you can listen a bit longer. Why Worry is one of my go to test tracks. SACD function seems to stop working on many CD players.
@@iThoughtUHad2Bitch No. SACD is protected and must use the Players internal DAC. The only exception that a I know of is some very high end McIntosh transports that use a special cable to connect two Mac pieces together.
@@NovaluxStereophonic There is some Sony Blu Ray players that can play SACD and output via coaxial. I know for the most part most players either require analog output via onboard dac or HDMI on blu ray but wasn't sure if this one was one of the exceptions. Anyhow, thanks for answering my question. Cheers!
@@iThoughtUHad2Bitch If you know which model numbers those are please share. I was unaware that is was possible. In most cases if you get a signal out of the coax out you are not actually reading the SACD layer.
Great Video, I imagine you sold this unit some time ago. I have one, but as looking to locate a front panel board for it and was wondering if you might have any sources fro such a part? thx in advance, Blaise
I'm pretty sure the disc platter and have something like a proprietary material that's not metal and it's not plastic it's like ceramic composite or something pretty sure I remember the literature 7000 Sony had something similar
i just picked up one of these units an dit is in very good condition, but has no Power cord. Any idea of what type of after market power cord I need ( spec? ) and where to get one? thx in advance. Blaise
The front loader and housing is not metal, its the Gibraltar chassis material. Far better for audio, it's acoustically 'dead'. Hard as marble and doesn't resonate at all. A really perfect material for the application.
This unit has only two analog outs….so it can only play stereo sacd? No multi-channel? It must downmix 5.1 to 2.0 apparently. Not sure what good that is.
SA-CDs do actually contain separated 2.0 stereo and up to 5.1 multichannel audio (where available), so no down-mixes ever happened (except on very few players which allow the user to choose to do so).
Alongside with bluerays and uh... cheap trash components came (because of blueray usecase). Does anybody think that $150 new blueray player with a legendary Japanese name on it produces something except a garbage sound?
These werent really made for video but for the audio quality!

Damn...nice presentation.... good one.... !
What are some of the advantages of a dual audio L R output in regards to audiophile usage and set up?
Hello, I have a DVP-NS999ES with the same problem not playing the SACD's, how can I do the calibration with the remote?
If all you’re buying/watching is Blu Ray and 4k Ultra HD, you are missing out on alot of content.
Looks like an old IQ4000 Motorola Thought Analyzer without the vaporizer ....Memories!!
I still have my old one disc Sony DVD player what has the electric front piece that comes down every time you open it s7000 i believe

Thank you for the video - succinct and thorough. I feel like I learned a bunch.

Any generic 16AWG IEC cord will be just fine. Amazon.

What DAC is in here for Audio Playback for CD?
This unit sold very shortly after posting the video. I did not have a chance to locate and ID the DAC Chip.
The DAC chip is a Sony CXD9556 (stereo DAC with dual differential output).
I have one we need a button anyone know where to get one?
I know this is old, but how did you get it to playback with just the rca audio plugged in.
