They need to be a thing again. That idiot David Zazlav at Warner Brothers is taking away the purchasing rights of their movies. Sony is being forced to remove the WB library from the PS Store. People who bought digital WB movies are out of luck. Their movies are going away and they aren't getting a refund.

One of the reasons to have physical media is that sometimes that's the only way to watch some things, especially older titles. Some of them are owned by rights holders that just don't seem to want to mess with streaming or digital sales. Or there is some licensing issue (usually music) that prevents a digital/streaming release. So you have to track down an old physical copy to watch it.

    • @RN25899

I am in that middle road. I source a DVD or whatever then make a backup file of it and store it to a HDD.
A friend also use to have a public server where he also hosted his backups, you could stream it from him. Granted if you are close by to his location otherwise the buffering would be crazy. We stopped watching movies so no clue if he still have this, I didn't logged into his server for 2 years or so ...
With my method I watch my own cuts and versions that I know and want to watch. Hate those edits and whatnots where they cut or change too many things and there are no other version available to stream just one botched version or even a movie being unavailable etc.
So I like physical but also like to have digital backups of the same things ... Even tho I don't watch them anymore I still like the feeling of knowing that I have the options available when I will decide to watch something.
Same thing with games, soon as I lost control of things I buy, I stopped buying games.
      Plug n play or GTFO

Having data on physical disks and tapes that you keep in your house is just too painfully silly to countenance.

@@eadweard. until your hard drive dies.
Especially ssd's are susceptible for letting the magic smoke out pretty fast with a bunch of data loss as a result.
For my retro pc's and consoles I rip an image off of the original disc, store it on my nas that backs up onto a second hdd and i burn a physical copy to play.
Must say that storing them isn't a big issue if you have a decent system to do so.

I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed.", and what I felt from Jesus when I held him was unlike anything I've ever felt before - A lifetime of Love every second - It brought me to sobbing and it changed my life, forever.
I've had Many experiences since, "Several witnessed", one was seeing a bright orb of light pass across my face in the dark, hours before a major surgery the second I gave up in my heart.
Know that God and Jesus ARE real and that they Love us deeply. Let go of your hatred and Imagine yourself holding the people who've hurt you. Tell them you Love them.
Always have hope, I believe that prayer, following God's laws & Love is the answer, and through that, Truly becoming humble, merciful, welcoming, giving, gentle, respectful, compassionate, patient, kind and forgiving, To All.

I attempted to repair my Panasonic DMR-EX768 DVR some time ago, it needed around 12 capacitors replacing which died due to heat damage. Unfortunately I got to it too late, the unstable power rails fried the audio decoder chip. This would have cost over 2000 GPB to replace due to the chip being custom-made by Panasonic so I had to write it off. It is good to see that you had success with your unit here, it is nice to see some of the old classic units being brought back to life here on your channel. Great video 👍

What I will do from now on is (A) one at a time, (B) take pictures, (C) write down the board position e.g. c2 and uF and voltage rating.
And I am someone who still uses DVDs. Not a fan of digital content unless it's DRM free such as an .mp4 file of a TV show that can play on anything. For music I'm an mp3 guy. all my music is digital either on CDs or mp3s. yeah I'm old skool.

Hi, It's not a good idea to stroke the board with a metal tool like you did.
Doing so could apply an incorrect or high voltage across a semiconductor / chip and blow it.
If you are concerned about charged capacitors, just discharge them with a 5 - 10watt wirewound resistor of around 1.5k - 3k ohm. Be prepared for it to get hot if you discharge a high voltage. Then check again with a meter or have the meter connected as you discharge the cap.

That thing has a Hitachi Deskstar HDD, aka 'Deathstar". Notorious for failures. I would definitely change it out at some point. Use a HDD clone program to setup a different one like a WD or Seagate.

I think this might be made by Funai or Thompson, my DVD/VHS kombo unit had exactly the same pcb Layout and connectors, but fortunally no leaky caps, only a bad VHS mechanism

@@StezStixFix yes! I’m so pleased! As these things are / were usually left on permanently I thought it would probably be power / capacitor related! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
