    The bike looks great, but I can’t get over how high the exhaust pipes are. How do you not burn you leg even with heat shields?

    • @LeumasKnight

    • @Enligtenyaself
      @Enligtenyaself 3 роки тому +6

      It’s really only a bother at a stop on hot days when the weather is 90 degrees F and above. And for that you just need to stick your leg out a bit. When you’re moving the wind keeps the heat from being a bother. The heat from the high pipes is actually really nice at night and on cold days.

      @lukejohnr 3 роки тому +1

      I've checked this type of exhaust on Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC. Over 30 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit?) and during 30 minutes ride it was really hot. Leg was not burned, but it hurt. But still - it looks great.

    One thing I don't like about my '22 SS 900 can be seen starting at 11:20. Those sky reflections on the speedometer make it difficult to read. Trees and clouds reflections on the speedo will have you ducking and slanting your head to see the speedo and not the bottom side of trees and clouds. IT"S LAYING TOO FLAT.
    I live in foothills of Sierra's, you can forget seeing the speedometer riding through Douglas Fur on mountain twisties when the sun is high in sky. But you CAN enjoy the sky scenery. It's WAY wrong.

    I got a 2017 left over in 2018 .That got the price down into your Ducati territory . I am still in love ... I wish the suspension was a little better (I got wider foot pegs to post when it's bad .. ) I wish the tank was a gallon bigger ..Just around 165 /170 miles in range .. I like the less HP of the older model in that in gets 56 MPG ... and the Nisson front brake is good in the dirt . The high pipe has never seemed hot to me and is out of the way for chain work .. It is a perfect back country road bike .. It fits the horse country estate lanes of North Western Connecticut to a T .."Was that an old MG or a vintage bike at the security gate Giles?"... No need to release the dogs ...

      How is it for a first time rider and is it the 900 or 1200?

    • @shfontenot45
      @shfontenot45 2 роки тому +1

      @@Musicalm999 honestly it's been absolutely fantastic! It's a 900 and the way it makes its power makes it very approachable. It's fun without being scary, after having about eight months with it I've gotten used to the amount of power it has but it's still an extremely fun bike. I had one little spill on it while on a dirt trail, had it in "off road" mode (abs and tc off) grabbed a little bit of front brakes right as I hit a dip that I didn't see and dumped it over on the right side. No seriously damage and came out of it unscathed, was only going about 5mph. Gave me a reason to start modding it so 🤷‍♂️. All in all I would totally recommend any of the bonnevile 900s to any new rider like myself. It's been the perfect platform to learn on and grow with, it's already taught me sooo much and I haven't even been riding for a whole year yet. Hope this helps! Ride safe!

    It's probably one of the better retro styles I've seen because I remember those from when I started riding and I thought they looked great back then too. Being that I owned a Triumph back then (around 1970) I still have problems with trusting the reliability of Triumph though. I've thought about the 1050 Sprint ST or GT recently because I love the looks, but can't get the "Just buy Japanese and get a proven reliable bike" thought out of my head. Triumph might be a good bike now, but old impressions always die hard.

      I had a -66 Thunderbird as my first larger bike 35 years ago, we can just say that I learnt to wrench to keep it going..., now I have a 2011 Street triple, there is if course no comparision between these bikes, the new ones are on a different level, I would even say different planet!

    • @timsretirementjourney8323
      @timsretirementjourney8323 3 роки тому

      @@ulfjonsson22 yeah those things were bad back then. If you got 10,000 miles before you had to do a rebuild (taking into account that young guys are hard on bikes) you were doing well. I have no doubt that they have to be better bikes today.
      My current bike's a 32 year old Suzuki GSX1100F with 115,000 km on it, and I wonder if the newer Triumphs have that kind of reliability yet? I'd love to try a 2011 1050 Sprint GT if they do.

    Recommended for a first ride? Nope, youngsters ought to get a 125cc manual bike not a scoot just to learn the fundamentals then later proceed to something a bit more fruity. I've been riding for over 13 yrs and my current ride is a mere 200cc dual sport but it gives me 100% fun at 100% of the times may it be dense city traffic or tricky mountain trails. I oftentimes think to get something slightly bigger but then I conclude that I'd probably end up hurting myself. The best is if you can afford a multi-bike garage, a different ride for different purposes.

      Well, the whole bike is different. Frame, suspension, engine, everything!
      Torque is available from idle, it pulls like a train. Both the XC and the XE are very capable off road. They have a very comfortable seating position, though the seat is not suitable for all-day long journeys.
      You can find much more accessories to the 900, and only a few for the 1200. So, if customization is your thing , then go with the 900 (though the aftermarket supply is growing for the 1200 as well).
      The 21 inch front wheel on the 1200 makes it very capable on all terrains, but less sporty on the twisties.
      On the XE you get plenty of extras as standard for your money: cornering ABS (IMU), off road pro rding mode, a longer swing arm, longer suspension travel both front and rear, cruise control, heated grips etc. So the price difference is well justified in my humble opinion!

    I have one and I love it but here are some real issues:
    1. Want to check rear break fluid levels? You need to remove the exhaust
    2. It gets hot. Really hot. And the vertical radiator vents right on to your legs
    3. The “tool kit” is a single Allen key...which you need a screwdriver to access
    Bonus points: This bike turns heads if you fit it with a bench seat it transforms the looks!
