Just got my Digitakt a week ago. I read through the manual, but it's very basic and not particularly clear. I've watched this video 3 times now (as there's bits I forget when I get to sit down and play with the Digitakt. It probably won't be the last viewing either!) and it is a fantastic tutorial. I really dig that you show all the different ways to do one thing, and also what to be careful of (like clearing whole patterns instead of just tracks), stuff that isn't obvious on the surface or particularly well explained in the manual. When tutorials like this exist, you don't need to touch the manual. Brilliant tutorial, very detailed and expansive yet totally n00b friendly.
It was the most boring manual that I have ever read. It is dry in a way that also makes it hard. The Moog manuals are also dry to the point but the have examples, more images and take you on a journey.
For the newcomers like me, the Save Ptn functionality works different now. It just saves the pattern into a temp location, if you want to save the current pattern into the project you need to do Save Proj/Patterni/Save to Proj

I think the pattern save caught me out on the first day. Saved the pattern, not the project. Loaded a new project and when I went back to the old project the pattern was there but all the sample slots I'd loaded were blank so I had to reload them all from the +drive. Slightly confusing. I wish the manual said more about the copy and paste functions, too.
Thanks for the vid, I'm still on the fence with Digitakt. My main problem with it is the lack of a song mode. Maybe this can be added in an update. Even Korg figured out the Electribes needed a real pattern chain feature. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. Anyway, thanks again Cuckoo. You've been a great help:)
Mike Logan You can chain up to 64 patterns which can have up to 64 steps or 4 bars. Plus each pattern can have an additional 8 bars of trig condition changes... So each of those could be a song.
Yes, but you can't save the chain. It's gone when you switch a pattern manually or when you power-cycle the machine. It's a shame they always cripple their products down somewhere.
It's difficult for me to take this product seriously without playback. It's my feeling that an artist should be able to stand back and observe his or her work. This is how I fine tune my songs, for a lot of us out there the "playback" is key to a well thought out creation/song. Just my opinion.
+Mike Logan yeah, playback is very useful, and common in electronic music. Especially for straight up songs. In acoustic music though it's impossible. I think when you're performing live and devoting your attention to the instrument, you can reach new heights. But a regular song mode should still be there, I agree.. I think it's a shame they left it out.

The "Amiga" sample, I am pretty sure, is named after the tone generated by the old Amiga computers from back in the 80's . . . early Commodore PC's (in case anyone finds that interesting). That tone brings back memories.

Brilliant video - want want want. Damn thing's not in stock in UK until August. I shall pace up and down the room muttering 'come ooonnn...Come ooonnn' until then. Thanks for doing such a great and detailed tutorial!
What a great tutorial! I just got my Digitakt yesterday, and have been struggling to understand the interface, menu levels, and just the whole process. (Full disclosure, this is my first [real] drum machine... I've used samplers, sequencers, and arpeggiators going back to Ensoniq Mirage and Emu Systems Emax SE II's. ) I now use a Nord Wave 2 as my main synth / sampler, and am incorporating the Digitakt to provide the rhythm (and more) -- along with a Behringer Crave for more layered synth (and drum/bass) sounds. I'm trying to limit the "DAW experience" as much as I can. I'm an 'old school' musician (I'll be 50 in May, 2023) and I just don't find it inspiring or very enjoyable to use DAW for anything other than post-production and managing sample libraries. If all you have is a laptop, sure a DAW will be what you use. I find physical contact with the 'instrument' way more intuitive, natural, and productive. Anyway, thanks again Cuckoo! (now Subscribed)
this is super helpful. elektron's manual is pretty well written, but the organization of information here is great. i also like the creepy jail cell mirror use- clever!

The "Amiga" sample, I am pretty sure, is named after the tone generated by the old Amiga computers from back in the 80's . . . early Commodore PC's (in case anyone finds that interesting). That tone brings back memories.
Thank you so much for this video!! Amazing job!! recently purchased degitakt I didnt even have to read manual. YOU ARE THE BEST!! very easy to understand and this video makes me understand pretty much everything what I needed to know:) Thank you again!!
Glad to hear that! Keep it up!
New digitakt owner - this should be required reading for all. Thank you.
Brilliant video - want want want. Damn thing's not in stock in UK until August. I shall pace up and down the room muttering 'come ooonnn...Come ooonnn' until then. Thanks for doing such a great and detailed tutorial!
I literally bought a Digitakt after watching this video... that's how well you presented it! Much love dude 🤙🏼
Thank you very much. My Digitakt arrived today and you had me making music very quickly.
This tutorial should come in the box with every new Digitakt
What a great tutorial! I just got my Digitakt yesterday, and have been struggling to understand the interface, menu levels, and just the whole process. (Full disclosure, this is my first [real] drum machine... I've used samplers, sequencers, and arpeggiators going back to Ensoniq Mirage and Emu Systems Emax SE II's. )
I now use a Nord Wave 2 as my main synth / sampler, and am incorporating the Digitakt to provide the rhythm (and more) -- along with a Behringer Crave for more layered synth (and drum/bass) sounds.
After having watched cokoomusic tutorials i am totally relaxed. And well informed. :-)
this is super helpful. elektron's manual is pretty well written, but the organization of information here is great. i also like the creepy jail cell mirror use- clever!
