Sam.... The reason you take so much water isn't just in case you get thirsty. The reason you take so much water is in case you have a problem with your vehicle and are stuck on the side of the road for hours. You said it yourself, petrol stations are about every 150km. It's not like you can just go down to the corner store and buy a drink. Or in your case a coffee. Oh and we don't have rattlesnakes in oz.

Did the plains in Jan this year. We stayed at Cocklebiddy, great bar/food. The airstrips along the way are for the Flying Doctor mainly, but of course any aircraft needing to land in an emergency will take advantage of it. Just love The Nullabor. The stories we heard prior driving it sounded terrifying, turned out easy peasy. We also started from Ceduna, quaint little town.
It is a bloody tarmac highway these days you can cover it in 4/5 days no problem. You have a brand new Porsche which is reliable and quick. Watch the guy Henry Cole doing his best highways in the world. He does Australia too. Well worth it to actually see what the road is like.
Wonderful footage Sam, this is the video to show people what the Nullarbor is like, you've captured it perfectly. I loved my road trip across in both directions. It's a lovely drive, and I agree it's not empty or as desolate as people make out. The water / fuel concerns people have is of running out. Phone reception is patchy to non-existent, so you need to be prepared for a worst case scenario.
The closest they got to wolf creek is about 1400km, or 2100km by road. That's the distance to drive from France to Russia, or slightly less than the drive from Mexico to Canada.
Genuinely can’t wait for each segment of this vlog, loving each one! Maybe in parts because of my love and memories of travelling Australia, especially WA and driving the nullabor but honestly I’m really enjoying the trip so far, great content!

Please don’t give out “tips” that could seriously risk someone’s life.

Most of the horror stories about crossing the Nullarbor date back to the time when it was dirt road They only started sealing the road in 1969 and didn't finish until 1976 so it is still fairly recent as major highways go Back then it was much more of an adventure but don't underestimate the need to carry extra water People have died of heatstroke out there quite recently when they have broken down away from the main road and have run out of water It can still be a very dangerous place if things go wrong due to the isolation

Joe: F.I.S.H. Paragraph 1. The phenomenal universe which can be detected with our five senses is the manifestation of the unmanifested One Reality which most persons call “God”. Therefore, “God” is not a SEPARATE Person, distinct from His/Her creation but is fully omnipresent in the manifest universe - you, who are reading these words are That! The highest philosophy is known as “panentheism”, that is, God being one with but inconceivably and simultaneously distinct from the material universe. So the One Reality (God) is acting through each and every living creature (as well as the inanimate, to a lesser degree) in order to experience Himself in this play of duality, to which William Shakespeare famously alluded in his work “As You Like It”, when he scribed “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” This “story of life” has been preordained since the beginning of the universe (the so-called “Big Bang”). Therefore, free-will does not exist on the individual level but only on the universal plane, since there is only one Being in existence. Ah this takes me back to family holidays when I was a kid. We must have done the Nullarbor trip at least five times each way, but in way less luxury and time than this fine couple have done. For a time we lived in a town called Carnarvon and we drove from there to Adelaide in my Dad's clapped out Series IIIC Land Rover. No A/C, no car stereo, vinyl bench seats in the middle of summer and five days driving. That was pretty rugged. All told it was about 4,000km. There were other times as well that were done in way less time where the old man drove 12-14 hours each day, with stops only for fuel. That's hard yards. The advice about not driving at night is absolutely spot on. The 'roos are everywhere.
I cross the Nullarbor around 10 to 15 times a year in my truck, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Porsche on it lol

Tonight I'm in Goondiwindi in country Queensland, and they showed the cold snap you guys are going through on the news, including dash cam footage from Grand Rapids, where a mate of mine lives! It's 30 plus degrees here, and you guys are putting up with negative 30! I figure we should all meet in Hawaii where I assume it's zero degrees...
Illinois is great..... in the summer
@@davidtaylor857 when it's not 109°F
Antumbric my gf is from champagne I’ll. I’ve spent a lot of time there. I’m in Kentucky , not much better weather here
Did the plains in Jan this year.
Phone reception is patchy to non-existent, so you need to be prepared for a worst case scenario.
wonder if the guy from Wolf Creek is lurking about in his tow truck somewhere? ;-)
CWH 18 ,where else would he be?
Who do you think was filming?
The closest they got to wolf creek is about 1400km, or 2100km by road. That's the distance to drive from France to Russia, or slightly less than the drive from Mexico to Canada.
Genuinely can’t wait for each segment of this vlog, loving each one! Maybe in parts because of my love and memories of travelling Australia, especially WA and driving the nullabor but honestly I’m really enjoying the trip so far, great content!
Bet you’re happy you didn’t take the Macan now huh?!
Love love loving the Australia vlogs
49th - this should be an amazing video.
Fake cheese and ham doesn’t constitute as fresh produce...
One of your top 3 videos
I wouldn’t recommend giving people advice like that Sam especially since you made the trip once in a new very reliable vehicle, the advice people gave you is 100% the advice that people need to be given, my father in law is a truck driver and he said that the amount of times he came across people who were injured, stranded and sometimes even dead due to not listening to people was shocking. Please don’t give out “tips” that could seriously risk someone’s life.
Jeremy Clarkson well said mate
twah72 I’m not trying to be an asshole to Sam, but I think he shouldn’t be commenting on this stuff when he’s incredibly inexperienced
Jeremy Clarkson I can see that mate, you got the message across nicely 👍
Really ???....I lived out there for around 10 years and was the Ambo operator at Cocklebiddy .....only a couple of deaths in that whole time from road accidents.....this is what is wrong ....so many urban myths .
@@jimbo58x And it's not like there isn't traffic. I did it years ago and you'd pass another driver every 20 to 30 minutes on average. it's not that bad.
I have driven this route between Perth and Melbourne multiple times. Now that I live outside Melbourne I will be doing the run over to Perth later this year although we rough it by camping out under the stars on the way across. It’s a fantastic experience and I love it every time I get to do it. Thank you for your insight into how you found it.
Great video again. Always catchy tunes too - is there a playlist/tracklist? What's the one that starts at 4:28?
same question dude!! great song it is, but couldn't find it anywhere..
@@avinashlp713 It's called Grow Up by Gloria Tells...........phew....
@@jonburrough1452 thanks a ton dude!! Amazing song it is
Sensational presentation. Loved it. Thanks.
Most of the horror stories about crossing the Nullarbor date back to the time when it was dirt road
They only started sealing the road in 1969 and didn't finish until 1976 so it is still fairly recent as major highways go
Back then it was much more of an adventure but don't underestimate the need to carry extra water
People have died of heatstroke out there quite recently when they have broken down away from the main road and have run out of water
It can still be a very dangerous place if things go wrong due to the isolation
The most inspiring journey, Sam. Have fun
ok what, youre gonna have to explain your fear of whales
That might have something to do with his Uncle Jonah!
Mildly ironic for a Porsche driver. Good thing he doesn’t have a 911 Whale Tail.
@@lor7780 No they aren't.
Hey Sam & Partner,
Glad the Nullarbor region was a grand success!!
You 2 are completing an adventure that only a few will ever take on in their lifetime.
Thats totally AWESOME.
Have fun & be safe.
Cheers from Vancouver, Canada
PS- parts of Canada had experienced -60 C. Not here but OMG!!!
Sam are you going to come to malaysia as its shown that you are wearing a nasi goreng supreme shirt
Ian Koh Wait wut!!!! Nasi goreng isn’t dutch??? 😉
Dutch1975 ik but nasi goreng is a dish that is served in my country Malaysia therfore I say it's a nasi goreng supreme shirt
I crossed the Nullabor straight in a little hatch twice. Started in Mackay and finished in Perth, it was a 7 day trip. Sleeping in the car, no hotels. But despite that it was the one of the best moments of my life.
Its not the worlds longest straight road, its Australia's...
Really, really loving this new series! I usually hate it when you go abroad because I prefer London videos, but you always find a way to make things entertaining haha - Have fun on the trip!! 😁✌🏽
you silly duffa, the landing strip is for the royal flying doctor service not for emergency landings
adrian coyne You can’t complain. It is suppose to be for RFDS But it doesn’t hurt to use it as a Emergency Landing strip. Like your plane is going down and there is a strip infront of you but you cant use it?
You just Killed 176 people.
Best video yet. Loved this one Sam!
Nice video.
But rattlesnakes?
In Australia?
I thought it was only living in America.
Anyway great work.
Nah, everything in Australia is evil
No Rattlesnakes in Australia, No Tigers in Australia, No Bears in Australia, a virtual paradise compared to most Countries.
Pretty sure he was referring to his pee-pee when he said that.
We have 10 of the worlds most dangerous snakes. Enjoy !
@@gbsailing9436 No Black Mambas at least.
Some great scenery, loving this Australia vlogs
How do u film the Ariel shots?????
It's called a drone dumb dumb
Probably let's his gf drive while he follows with the drone?
@@jojacvonkekebau3686
The mavic has auto follow tech,
You have a receiver in the car, bike or whatever
And you set the drone off,
It will then auto follow and film you as you drive/ride/walk/ski whatever you fancy :-)
the drone shot with the dust tho! so so cool sam you are winning
Lol nah we aren’t scared of the Nullarbor, just bants to be honest, who ever told you there are rattlesnakes 100% was taking the piss.... we don’t have them. But if there is something that is true is that never go unprepared for desert trips, it can bite you in the arse more then a snake in the dunny.
We have more dangerous snakes than them
Love your content! i dont understand why you not have a million subcribers?? you deserve it!
"Second Longest." Saudi Arabia has one that's 260 km long.
That one is not only perfectly straight, it doesn't even have any elevation changes. Completely flat.. well, it follows the curvature of the Earth.
I’m loving this series Sam keep it up

Joe:

Just to brag: I rode my bicycle across the Nullabor last September. :) Well, more than that. Perth to Newcastle (near Sydney), coast to coast. And headwinds the WHOLE way. :) But it was great!
Max Randall was that the compassion bike trip. Well done 👍
@@joelbibleminorprophet3411 Hehe! yep it was. I still dream about the things we saw and experienced. :)

All the best from Portugal

The great ozzie outdoor.... Kudos for ya sam....
Awesome vlog. Keep up the good work.
Beautiful view 🤩
What an experience ! Thanks so much for sharing
cinematography is on-point
I have a friend that drove 100 miles in 55 minutes on part of that road in a 1969 Holden Monaro 327 in 1970!
I have been across it myself 3 times , 2 in a '69 brand new GT Ford Falcon from Perth to the Gold Coast and return non stop in 3 days and back again 10 days later with 4 drivers when the road was not fully sealed.
Also in 1970 in a 1969 Triumph 205 PI on my own.
Great drive
I'm all in to adventure driving. I've been all over the US. Thanks for teaching me about Australia.
Dude.... It's only the beginning of your journey... AND I'M HOOKED, I LOVE IT MAN :D

Great content all round Sam. Loving the videos so far. Liking the travel/car vlog aspect of your trip, already you've shown us so much and it's not even February yet! Good luck with your next leg.
Amazing video Sam! Really enjoyed it!!
This is the type of roadtrip video I was looking forward to! This is way more exciting than the stationary hotel videos! Keep it up!
