I'd much rather be PLAYING the game than watching someone else do it. Been on twitch once or twice, tried watching someone, got frustrated by how long it took the streamer to figure out a puzzle and walked away. Seems a bit pointless complaining about it to those people :D
6:48 I love how in this stock clip of someone smashing their phone on a table they put a notepad on the table so the phone doesn't actually break. High production values there.
"Bad" is the only stuff I can watch. "Pro's" who only have the end goal in mind are often interested just in showing off to the point the game doesn't actually matter and if something goes bad yeah it's just raging and screaming. Plus they can become a really samey "there is only 1 way to do things" videos. People messing around, almost having a dialogue with the game, make for a lot more interesting and entertaining videos, ofc results can vary there too.
They don't even have to be "bad" just not "tryhard." Haelin was one of the best speedrunners for Hades until he seemingly stopped playing it recently and it was super enjoyable to watch him run. He'd keep chat going during a run, often explain what he was doing for a skip if someone that didn't understand asked and was a generally chill dude.
Indeed, the fact Jess wants to imply he is old, he forgets completely about The Arcade Scene, Fighting Gaming Tournaments, I think there was a Nintendo Competition as well...Hell, there's HI-Score Girl, a show about this sort of scene on Netflix.
"What's the point of watching a game stream if they're not any good at it?" I don't know. What's the point of grabbing a drink at a bar with your friends if you're not good enough at holding your liquor to avoid passing out? COVID willing, of course.
Gamers(TM) insist on placing insane importance on how good someone is at video games because they're desperate to feel like all the time they've invested has made them into superior beings instead of just being fun, which is something consumers of most media are perfectly fine accepting
Please keep the indie spotlight section. There are so many interesting unadvertised games always coming out and it's hard to know which ones to check out.
I love Hades' god mode. It makes the game incrementally easier until you're able to get through it and then stops. It maximizes enjoyment for the player by scaling difficulty to what the player will enjoy. All games should do this. There's nothing wrong with wanting an easy game so that you can enjoy yourself.
It's even more impressive that they thought to put it in a game like Hades. It would have been very easy to think, "well, Zag gets stronger even after failed runs so people will be fine eventually," but, you know, people don't necessarily have time for _hundreds_ of runs until they're so powerful they can just steamroll everything. That and, now that I think about it, the final boss hits so hard that even a player with a maxed out Zag but difficulty inputting commands could still struggle.
This needs more upvotes. Please, more. I don't like volunteering people for things, or asking people to make content, but if I can take this comment as consent, then :)

Huh, that's actually a really good idea to have intermittent stuff like that now that you mention it. I also have ADHD and I think they help me pay attention
It's the same "old man" mindset you see everywhere else, that people are too coddled and we don't deserve the things we're given because we didn't work hard enough. It's markedly younger people saying this shit when it comes to gaming because video games are a relatively young thing.
I love crushing difficulty, I always play on the hardest difficulties I can, because I like the challenge of it. But I genuinely don’t understand why people get offended when not everybody thinks that way. It baffles me as to why they think it necessary to harass other people for enjoying the games they purchase on their own terms...

And isn’t that what all this is about, not living your best life but rather helping a cis white male understand something a bit better... Really happy to see them doing so well.
My general rule of thumb for streamers is, I only watch people I could see myself having a drink at the bar and chill with. I really don’t care if you’re good at the game, but if you have a good personality and are relatable, I’ll tune in.
Honestly, I thought that was the whole point of twitch, to watch people who are fun and entertaining, not to watch Hardcore Gamers(tm) who are the very best like no one ever was. In my experience, it's a lot more fun to watch someone who sucks and dies easily in hilarious ways.
Yeah, I also only watch streamers that I could see myself having a drink at the bar with. ... I don't go to bars or drink, though, so I don't watch any streamers.
Some people watch really skilled streamers and enjoy watching them be great gamers too, but there are plenty of people to watch if you want that. I’ve been following you since your destructiod days. and I have always appreciated your honesty and utter distane for horrible industry practices. Keep doing what you do mate.
The best game to relate this video to is *Undertale* . During the heights of its popularity, streamers and youtubers were hounded by comments telling them they're "playing it wrong" and "you can't kill the enemies or you'll fail the Pacifist run!". For a game that thrived on choice, the fandom was - and still is - obsessed in ensuring people play the game "the right way". And, because of this, many lost interest in playing the game.
Still happens to this day. The wave of recent vtubers playing it were bombarded with this kind of 'advice'. Now, a lot of it is rooted in the powerful emotional involvement and parasocial relationships formed with tese characters, and wanting to see them treated right, but holy shit does it ruin everything when they take over.
Happens with any game with lots choice. I've seen happen every time a streamer tries new vegas. They get told their doing it the wrong way pretty much from beginning to end because that game offers so much choice in how you want to be good or evil or somewhere in between. Melee or guns or energy weapons or some weird mix? You'll always be playing it wrong.
True. But if you kill someone in the game you have to replay the whole game to get the pacifist ending. But if you don’t kill anyone you can just reload the save right before the final boss. So sometimes what would happen is that the streamer would kill a creature early on, get to the very end of the game. Then when they found out they had to replay the whole thing they were like “nah that’s way too much work. I’ll just look up the real ending on UA-cam.” I’m not defending the backseat gamers but there are people who wouldn’t have bothered to get the good ending otherwise.
@@devilmikey00 and then in the hollow knight community you have people telling a streamer to do pantheon 5 which is the hardest feat to do and that 0.3% of the player base has done (on xbox at least)

Been on twitch once or twice, tried watching someone, got frustrated by how long it took the streamer to figure out a puzzle and walked away. Seems a bit pointless complaining about it to those people :D
Fully expect a 10 min video of just Boglins commercials eventually.

6:48 I love how in this stock clip of someone smashing their phone on a table they put a notepad on the table so the phone doesn't actually break. High production values there.
Its really fun to watch "bad" speedrunners actually. They are still learning, less resets, less rage moments.

I like watching streams where the performer can use their skills to play in a prankish or funny fashion. Like when people do farmer main in mordhau

Can we expect regular Casey Explosion indie highlights because that was delightful.
Hear, hear.
Gamers(TM) insist on placing insane importance on how good someone is at video games because they're desperate to feel like all the time they've invested has made them into superior beings instead of just being fun, which is something consumers of most media are perfectly fine accepting
Video Games are games as well as media, people get competitive about that sort of thing.
If there is one thing I've learned, it is that Twitch chat has no fucking clue what they're talking about when they tell you how to do something.
I've learned that one person does and it's always the one who's just arrived because they like the game so can't highlight their comment
This "Jimquisition's Sudden Turn to Surrealism" arc is going quite well, innit?

"Shouldn't be able to take a trip on an airplane if you didn't build and pilot the airplane." -gamers

I’ve understood academically what gender dysphoria is for a while now, but to see how much happier and healthier Jim is now being themself for a few months has really helped me internalize just what a big effing deal it is. And isn’t that what all this is about, not living your best life but rather helping a cis white male understand something a bit better... Really happy to see them doing so well.
I'd say 2014 Jim is the happiest of them all, but what do I know
My general rule of thumb for streamers is, I only watch people I could see myself having a drink at the bar and chill with.
Yeah, I also only watch streamers that I could see myself having a drink at the bar with. ... I don't go to bars or drink, though, so I don't watch any streamers.
this is exactly why I watch Bowlingotter and Lissy Sandwich!
Some people watch really skilled streamers and enjoy watching them be great gamers too, but there are plenty of people to watch if you want that. There is literally no good reason to bitch about streamers "not being good enough at games", when you can literally just go out and find people who are...
I dont stream much but I completely agree

The Jimquisition is definitely my favorite surreal horror telenovela.
I’ll just look up the real ending on UA-cam.”
I’m not defending the backseat gamers but there are people who wouldn’t have bothered to get the good ending otherwise.
@@devilmikey00 and then in the hollow knight community you have people telling a streamer to do pantheon 5 which is the hardest feat to do and that 0.3% of the player base has done (on xbox at least)
See this is why I played Undertale for myself, I can play it the right way for me. Which means wholesome goodness and no murder \o/ people can play the way they like. If you don't like the way they play go do something else.
