E3 happened, and it was a particularly mediocre one this year. Let's face it though, even when it's at its best, E3 isn't really that important or vital. It's always been guff, and always will be guff.
Rather than subject myself to the hype and lies this year, I decided to innovate a new E3 coverage style that involves watching as little E3 as possible. It was a very good idea.

"Ubisimps" is absolutely genius lmao
But now I gotta see Ubisoft forward 2022 because of Mario + Rabbids sparks of hope now.
At least sequel to the the legend of Zelda breath of the wild trailer will have a title.
Didn't even knew about the stuff they did tbh, maybe to casual to hear about it. Well still going to get the rabbits game.
@@brotbrotsen1100 "So they protect sexual predators? I guess I'll give them some money."
There is a great reason why people haven't heard about Ubisoft's protections of protecting rapists at all levels of the company and why 40% of ubisoft employees reported seeing sexual abuse. Ubisoft really did not want you to find out about it. This isn't something to pass off either. Ubisoft protected rapists from the head of HR on down and those same people who drugged and raped women are still employed. If you give them money, you chose to support that. Is it really worth it? Do you really need to go up another tower?
@@BenedictMHolland I've considered Ubisoft's crap to be malware since the days of Starforce DRM (anyone remember that one? Trashed your system so that the "Ub" could maintain control of their IP which mean piracy was the only safe way to play their shit?) and present developments just help reinforce my continued disdain of their BS.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed not watching E3 this year. 10/10, would not watch again.
I watched a few select ones on Twitch because the person I was watching was only doing select shows. There were half a dozen titles that interested me but the individual shows, and E3 overall, was bad.
It says a lot when I think the best show was Nintendo - and I have zero interest in them and don't want a Switch.
Same. I've never seen E3 to begin with, and this year I had not even noticed that it had taken place when it did. Most of what I know about E3 has been through video essays about industry scandals and cringe compilations lmao
At this point I just go deep-diving on Steam through recommended games and let acquaintances on my subreddits give me suggestions. I have me own list of releases that I'm excited for, so I don't even need E3 or whatever. Probably the releases I'm looking forward too didn't even appear on E3 (stuff like Scene Investigators and Unpacking).
Edit: oh, and the game dev / indie dev subreddit has been a savior for me as well. I get to see posts about game development and can be one of the early supporters of genuine indie games.
Did you not see the Capcom presentation? Me neither. It's great isn't it?

I see the same thing with video game fans that I do with "patriots." Loving something means pointing out its flaws and holding it to a higher standard, demanding it be as good as it can be. Not simply accepting things the way they are and blindly protecting it from all criticism.
Nailed it.
Absolutely!
@@UndeadCollector I still don’t see how that makes “fans the real problem.” I don’t really think it’s helpful to frame this as an individual problem when the context that the individual exists in is so aggressively trying to get them to buy bullshit with predatory strategies. If an individual stops buying loot boxes, they can always make that money up with someone else who does have the money to pay-to-win. If you regulate publishers instead, and make these kinds of gambling systems illegals, you don’t have that problem anymore. And as a bonus you get better games without ruined progression systems.
You wouldn’t apply this logic to crime and policing, saying that the solution to brutal policing is people just stop doing crime, at least I hope you wouldn’t. It’s an industry-side problem, not an individual one.
@@spiraljumper74 But a "Fanbase" is not an individual one, but many ppl. The money must come from somewhere, otherwise EA would never had this kind of high cash numbers written on there Games. And if you not a fan, you would never pay that much.
It's a fact, that "speaking with your wallet" is a bigger impact as to just say something is wrong, but don't stop buying.
Should be Lootboxing and Microtransaction in a Full Price removed? Completly! But it doesn't help much, if ppl are against something and still wana play the Game, which means, giving the "bad company" money, no matter what.
Police Brutality has nothing to do with that, not even as a comparison. If EA screams "buy our stuff" you can always say "NO!" but most ppl can not say no, because they Fans. Specialy if you only see one thing and think "this is normal, so why complaining" (as most FIFA players are not even Gamers, they only play FIFA)
Eh. I've heard that before, and while I'm absolutely sure there's people out there who can't psychologically deal with liking something that may have flaws, I really do not think this is the majority view. Speaking for myself, I guess just... don't care? If Ubisoft executives covered up abuse, or if Activision lays off employees, how does that affect *me* as a customer? If there's abuse going on somewhere surely that's a police matter. If you don't want companies able to do layoffs change your laws so it doesn't happen anymore. Even if I cared, from where I'm standing I have no power to do anything about either of those things, nor do they affect me in any way.
It's not that I "don't want to know how the sausage is made", it's that I honestly don't care. I started watching Jim because I found him entertaining, and it doesn't entertain me to hear about things I don't care about. Sometimes it feels as if Jim is doing these videos purely out of obligation. That bit near the end about the games that he found interesting was actually good, and it seems as if *all* the rest was just padding to fill the format. If I'm right then that's pretty sad. Having 2 minutes of content and having to stretch it to 17 minutes with retreads of irrelevant BS must suck
Thank you for being one of the few consistent voices about Ubisoft. I'm not holding my breath that we'll see change at the consumer level, but the workers and unions striving to hold the company accountable deserve at LEAST as big a platform as Ubisoft continues to get for its own business agenda.
Don't worry Ubisoft is doing whatever the Karens in Canada tell them to do...

Im here for the chokeslam dlc.
it costs 400$ but it's worth it.
Ah yes E3, a great load of white noise ending with Nintendo announcing something vaguely interesting
Well, I was thinking of saying "at least there was the Elden Ring trailer", but then I remembered that the Elden Ring trailer revealed that, after all the anticipation, the game is basically "What if Dark Souls... but horse?"
@@ArcaneAzmadi I don't think people were expecting much else though? Fromsoft is known for making Souls games and that's exactly what people wanted. I thought it looked ok all things considered but I can get being underwhelmed if you really wanted a bit more.
@@ArcaneAzmadi They really should have just called it Dark Souls 4 lmao

I appreciate what you do James Stephanie Sterling. Thank God for you.
So Brave
Sterling, I always stand behind you. Continue shitting on the AAA industry, I´ll watch it and I´ll be there till you shut this thing down.
It’s nice to feel validated in my E3-lack-of-shit-giving. Keep on being awesome Commander Sterling.
'...I should stop expecting better anywhere', hit the nail on the head as far as the whole game thing has been for me lately... feels like even the smaller titles I liked ended up being made by some really trash people.
But despite all that nonsense you seem to be looking happier and healthier, small mercies eh?
Eh, I still have Hades so I’m still fine, but I agree with your message of disillusionment
If you care more about the individuals making products rather than the products themselves you are gonna live a miserable and unfun life lol. At the end of the day everyone is human and everyone has faults and does shitty things, there is no director, developer, artist etc... who will share your views 100%. I think it's important to strike a balance between enjoying a product and criticizing the producer. Like, Ubisoft is trash, but Far Cry 6 looks pretty good. And I can enjoy Far Cry 6 without needing to be best friends with Ubisoft's CEO, I can still say fuck him and criticize the company for what they do to their employees
@@lordlubu3029 if you can separate the art from the artist in such a manner then I’m happy for you and hope you have fun. I personally cannot when the artist is still alive (like I read HP Lovecraft without following his stupid racial beliefs and I’m not giving him money because he’s dead).
Honestly I lost interest in everything Ubisoft did long before all the allegations came up, and now I’m glad I did.
Again, I’m glad you’re having fun, I personally can’t, not with them.
@Dude P. I was more alluding to Scott Cawthon with that example. I'm not downplaying sexual abuse, what I'm saying is the game devs aren't the people committing sexual abuse. The Execs and CEOs are scummy people and yea they are guilty of sexual abuse and should be in jail....but what does that have to do with Far Cry? Boycotting the game doesn't hurt the millionaire CEOs running around assaulting people, it hurts the minimum wage staff that are going to get fired because they are replaceable.
Also my point is if your standard is not supporting a company because of the actions of their CEOs, then you literally can never enjoy or purchase anything. Nearly everything produced in our economy is produced by execs who are shitbags that commit crimes. Don't watch any movies because Hollywood execs are notoriously big sex abusers, don't buy any clothes, jewelry or electronics because those are all made by child clave labor, don't eat any non-vegan food or use any cosmetic products because those all involve animal abuse. My point is the entire economy is run by shitheads doing illegal or morally reprehensible things. So at some point you need to separate the art from the artist, otherwise it's impossible to function in society. You'll just be a miserable and depressed person all the time. Now that doesn't mean don't hold people accountable, but you can enjoy something like video games or movies or computers while also acknowledging and working against the harmful practices. Being constantly angry and cynical about everything helps no one and leads down a bad path
My preferred way of starting Monday is with thanking god for Jim Sterling.
As it should be! ^_^
Damn straight... no pun intended.
I'm mad that I remember both Milos, but at least the joke about one of them never gets old.
thanks for not dropping the Ubi thing, it's insane watching everyone coddle abusers and *literal* virtue signaling from them, I feel way less crazy every time you bring it up
and ho boy do i not like using the term virtue signaling but idk what else to call it
@@marzipanjoyner2272 Who's coddling abusers? I don't think talking positively about a game coming out is the same as coddling the execs
You and your work are important, Mx. Sterling, and thank you for being a voice against how shit the industry has continued to become over the years.
The reality is the best way to watch E3 this year as been twitter (finally found a use for the platform). Actually watching square enix do a 30 minute trailer for guardians of the galaxy sounds horrible, but watching people get progressively more angry on twitter as it happened was genuinely great entertainment
Thank God for James Stephanie Sterling, I wouldn't know how to get through this mess without them.
Just occurred to me how wild it is that Shawn Phoenix came in clutch at Ryse like that, after you literally kicked the shit out him at Enjoy. Just goes to show, allyship should have no bounds.
That feeling when the games I'm the most excited to play came-out in the 90s and 2000s.
Seriously, almost nothing recent is interesting to me. I'm more excited to re-visit games from my childhood, or play old games that I've always wanted to play than playing modern Triple AaA games. Emulators on PCs, Flash Carts, and/or console hacking is the way to go for me.
I love the cackle that they do. Hearing it in the background evokes so Joker vibes.
Headline: "This year on E3."
E3: "Wait, we still a thing?"
I did not even knew there was an E3 this year ^_^
Wait, Babylon's Fall is gonna be a live service?!
Seriously, at this point I am convinced I tortured puppies in my past life to deserve this...
We all must have done that, considering how further video games slide in the shit. It's getting to the point that when a complete game is released that it's a breath of fresh air. When dlc does not need to complete it.

@@ghostpoliticsarchive9146 "they" has been a singular pronoun longer than "you" has
@@ghostpoliticsarchive9146 I am always baffled to how hard it is for people like you in life. Being so obsessed with pointing out things about people that have nothing to do with you. Thanks for pointing out your pronoun preference, I'd actually forgotten while talking about this channel to a friend of mine and couldn't remember whether you were going with she/her or they/them since coming out. Congrats again on that, I know it can be tough but your true fans will be here for you no matter your personal journey.

If it helps in the future, you could always just refer to someone as "they" if you don't know their pronouns.
I am glad you are making consumers uncomfortable. You are an important voice in this. Thank you for being you!
I haven't watched E3 since the last snarkathon. May he rest in peace. And even then I didn't watch it for E3.
It's good to see and that you still manage to work despite doing so much. The Sterling Beacon of Truth, shining The Light on Lies and Bullshit. Thank God For Thee.
If I hadn't watched any E3 stuff this year, I would've missed Capcom's unchained animatronic theme park puppet.
Can you regularly add little montages of games you look forward to your main videos? It injects some positivity and gives more exposure to those like me who just watch your main episodes only. It was a nice part of the show.
I also ignored e3. I read one article about new games on my favorite gaming site but that is all. There is no reason to waste my time listening to their lies.

I am so proud about seeing the joke coming at 10:50
Yeah, I always just wait for everyone to start talking about what happened. People telling me what happened takes a lot less time, and gives me all the information I care about anyway.
I still thank God for you. Fact of the matter is their are more important things than games.
It was really nice to hear Steph talk about the games that actually make them excited. It genuinely made me smile :)
Keep on covering what needs to be covered because nobody else is covering it. Thank god for somebody covering it.

Can't remember the last time I cared about E3, but it's probably been at least 17 years.
I appreciate what you do, and I'm here for it almost every time you release something. You do you Jim. Even people who don't think the same way that you do about a great many things still appreciate you for what you do. Don't let anyone ever tell you that what you do doesn't have value
