Thanks Pete, great video, just bought the 12 to go with my edge, had a quick play with it today and so far so good, but as I’m going to Morocco April I want it work 100% it’s nice there’s less weight on the front of helmet too
Glad it helped.
Can you connect a lavalier microphone to GoPro 12 by using just the new Bluetooth connection without using the media mod?
If yes can you recommend a portable budget one that is compatible.
Thank you
I suppose you could pair a wireless receiver and transmitter via Bluetooth. I have found it is still best to use a media mod and a wired microphone.
The whole Bluetooth setup sounds great, but it’s not that great if it doesn’t work.
B/T Recording of group chat? Has anyone tested the GP12 and how to record helmet chat between multiple users on the GP12? If so, how can you set that up?
If you link each headset to the GP it sometimes works. Sena is still the best way to record group talks
it works but sound is terrible. I still using external mic with cable.
Yep.
If you run power and leave it on and just hit record, does that solve it?
Yes, if the GoPro is on it worked fine. The big problem is that if you use the quick capture like a lot of us do on a motorcycle it doesn’t. GoPro just released a new firmware update to address that. I haven’t test it yet.
I've been saying for a long time now that GoPros need to have Bluetooth.... Maybe when they get the kinks worked out I might buy one... Great job on the video Pete 👊🏽😎
So, if you’re buying it strictly for the Bluetooth, not recommended. How do you like everything else about the 12??
Correct, It is not 100% reliable for recording while on the fly, how we use it. It works great in scenarios where you can make sure it is set up. Like a walk and talk or say a garage video. The video quality is really good. Huge step up from say my 7, slight improvement from my 10. 12 has a higher bit rate so less fragmentation and HDR ability.
@@Petesmotoadventure I may have to consider it eventually. I still run 2 Hero 7s. Until one of them craps out on me, I’ll keep them…..
Great video! I just bought the 12 to test this out. I have the Cardo Edge and the Cardo app will now record on your phone. Hopefully, the edge + 12 will work. Also this is definitely a software / firmware issue that should be fixed at some point. Fingers crossed. At least we are to this point after years of dreaming.
My friend uses the cardo and it works great.
Interesting... it sounds a lot like an issue I read about with the 10 and QuickCapture. I think if you're not using anything external and you want to do QC, go ahead, but if you're using a Media Mod, external mic, bluetooth, etc, it's best to turn the camera on, wait a few seconds, and then start recording. Much more reliable.
Now that you mention it... I wonder if my old SENA 10-series will connect to this thing? Hmm...
following
HI Pete - Have you tested it while connected to other riders, do the others voices get recorded or just yours?
I had it hooked up to 2 helmets, mine with a 50c and my wife’s 50s, if they are both hooked into the GoPro 12 works fine, as soon as you try to use the intercom function it stops and you get no sound at all. It is a bummer because that would be a nice feature.
OK for single motovloggers but not group rides then@@Petesmotoadventure
I'm still running the 8 Black with the Media Mod an external mic but could see the benefits of a Bluetooth Audio. Nice video.
thanks for your vlog. Gopro 12 and my Sena 3S never pairs with quick capture and always pairs when I do not use the quick capture. I bought the Gopro12 especially for this blue tooth option, so I am very disapointed now it is not working.
Glad I could help!
I’m a little late to the party with this as I’m looking at getting the 12.
I have a Sena SRL Mesh unit and want to link that to the 12 now Gopro has finally added BT.
I have had the very same issue regarding the quick start/record on previous GoPros not recording from external wired mics. It’s now a habit for me to always use the side button to boot up then hit the record button.
I have a GoPro 8 and 10 with media mods and when I had the 5 along with the audio adapter (brick) it happened a few times with that.
I think I recall it mentioned a while back on a couple of Gopro forums.
Since GP last Firmware update it’s a little better. But still doesn’t since as fast as we need it to for quick capture
6:00 - I have a Hero 4 with the Sena backpack. I felt the same way you do. The audio is consistently there! But I stopped using it because it was ALWAYS overheating and freezing up.
Thanks for the research on this but I must have consistency. Well done video!
Glad it was helpful! And yep we need consistency, plus your current setup is about perfect.
Yeah Pete, we've been eyeballing the GP12, but like you said we need it to work 100%. of the time. So "IF" we upgrade to the 12, we won't use the Bluetooth for on-the-bike vlogging.
The video quality of the 12 is amazing. I know that you guys are looking for that ability to hear each other on the camera it’s not there yet. That’s where Sena cameras still shine, the ability to record the conversation. Looking forward to seeing your Alaska videos.
Great breakdown and it’s too bad it’s not 100%. Hopefully, the companies release an update with a fix.
That’s what I’m hoping for.
Good information and I was keen on watching this video when i could when i seen it pop up. Question though have you tired it without a sena or cardio. Like with a regular bluetooth mic? Not one that is a combo that could possible be connecting to your phone or another device at the same time.
When I paired my AirPods it worked fine. I’m sure a straight BT mic would work fine as well.
Goming home and finding out your mircrophone did not work is the worst. Maybe some firmware updates will get it working. I think Sena is getting readly to do an update. They have been having huge sales. Whatever camera comes out with being able to grab bluetooth audio will win. Less wires and easy hookupds. Sold.
The Sena audio is hard to beat.
Thank you I found your video very informative; I won’t bother connecting to the hero 12 yet I’ll stick to the system I’m currently using which works well for me. I have a Sena SRL mesh on my helmet, a Sena 50s mounted on the bike which is connected to the line in on a voice recorder via the ear bud jack. This works well for me as it records all intercom traffic.
Glad it helped. I’m hoping in a future firmware update they will address the connectivity issues with the quick capture feature.
I briefly considered the 12 but am so disappointed in the 11 that it stays at home and I use my 8s. Considering I still can't get my audio consistently not terrible, I got bigger problems.
What are you using for audio connection? I might be able to give you a hand.
@@Petesmotoadventure There's a reason why people don't motovlog with a 3/4 helmet. I think I finally got it figured out, though. Thanks!
i have a sena 50c and i have it paired to my Pan America. i have not purchased any other camera . probaly because im not able to ride for a while . but Sena Always is on top of things with theyre updates . then agin you have many apps like when your on the gold wing. the go pro 12 is to new
It has bugs for the audio system, hope it gets resolved because it would be a great system.
Lots of great info here Pete. Well done sir.
Thank you kindly.
Hi Dear, the wired microphone still bettter than bluetooth connection, in moto vlogging because its always connect , unlike the bluetooth as you need to check everytime specially when you pause your video right dear?
Yes the wired microphone is still a better connection it always works. Thank you for watching.
Thank you dear for the info.
Hopefully they release an update to fix this problem.
GP has released a firmware update to address the issue. I haven’t had time to test it yet.
@@Petesmotoadventure any update on the issue mate? thanks for the video
Tested my 12 out with my SENA 30K. It connects but the audio recording was too low to make out while riding and yaking but I may not have adjusted the volume correctly. Lots of external noise, but connected automatically every time. It does work well while at a stop. I tested again with my Bose earbuds. Excellent results. I am waiting for a new wireless MIC system from Ulanzi, we’ll see how that goes. I am impressed with the GoPro Quick app preview mode for controlling the 12 while riding. That’s new to me and it worked flawlessly.
Edit: I tested this yesterday on a 5 hour ride on my Harley which is loud. Will test on my Wing sometime this week. Moving up from a HERO 9 which will be relegated to B-Roll only
Go into the mic settings on the sena and turn up the gain. I had the same issue. Once I had the gain up that helped. I also have a 9 and it is a great camera as well.
@@Petesmotoadventure …. Ok I will try that. One other thing I noticed…. I tested streaming pandora to my helmet speakers via the SENA and speaking at the same time. I did not pick up the background music when reviewing the footage. I do need to test further with other Bluetooth mics though. But at first glance, it’s a remarkable improvement overall.
I gave a shout-out to you on my channel during my review of the 12 / SENA connectivity
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Agree Pete, has to work every time for what we do 😎👌
Yep. I use the quick capture all the time, it has to work.
Dear if you click the quick capture it will disconnect right? Then you need to set up again?
@@ferdinandlim3061 the Bluetooth microphone will stay connected it just doesn’t always work with the quick capture feature. GoPro has released a new firmware update that is supposed to address the issue. I still prefer the wired microphone for my motorcycle helmet. It always works. Hope this helps.
Thank you Dear for answering my question , it helps me to decide to stay using my go pro 11 using wired microphone.
