- FN 15 TAC 3 Review
bit.ly/2CHLudt
From My Vantage point, it always seemed like FN treated their line of AR-15s as an afterthought.
There's the FN 15 Military Collector M4 and M16, which are excellent mil-spec replicas. Still, it's a little underwhelming if you don't get off having a visual replica of what the military is using.
Then there's the FN 15 SRP G2, again a good quality AR-15 but doesn't exactly make my heart flutter.
So when FN was reached out and said they're going to be sending me their latest AR-15, the FN 15 TAC 3, I almost said, Can you send me a SCAR instead?
However, when I finally got the FN 15 TAC 3, I was like, OH, what do we have here?

I like how this dude brings a different type of passion to the sport of firearms. Usually everybody is so rigid.. for good reason. But sometimes its cool to just appreciate a firearm for it's aesthetics also.
I agree. Not every gun has to be practical or achieve some sort of military mark or tactically efficient.

"Can you just send me a Scar instead" exactly my thoughts 😂
Lmao for real😂💀
SCAR is still my favorite rifle if I want anything other than an AR variant
Always nice to have a quality upgrade option right from the factory. Definitely the "I can't afford a SCAR but want FN quality" tier. Which is nice to have as an option.
Haha, the Magic Man again! What’s up bro! Obviously we are both gun guys.
Funny I’ve never thought of FN as a quality manufacture. They make the scar and the FN 249 which is sexy but it’s a hunk of junk. Only reason I’ve ever paid attention to FN outside of the Scar was because their cold hammer forged barrels are cheap like $180 to $250 cheap. New pistol line up past few years have been semi ok, definitely good looking but we’re over hyped. When I think of FN I think aero precision grade but have been capable of actually engineering a new weapon here and there. I bought a couple FN CHF barrels and I don’t regret it happy to have them as spare parts but compared to the DD it wasn’t the same in accuracy and I’m not sure about longevity. I’ve pumped over 40k rounds through one of my DD barrels and it still has rifling. My old team all use DD barrels and all of Socom and JSOC for that matter use DD barrels and they just don’t die. I haven’t witnessed many FN rifles going for long periods of time without maintenance. I can’t speak on the longevity of their barrels cause I never paid attention.
@@relentlessamerican9373 most AR barrels are made by 3 companies, FN is one of those, DD is a small company that has just started making their own barrels a few years ago, before that they were using FN barrels. all Aero barrels are made by FN call them and ask lol. a barrel is a piece of steel that has been formed and then cut in. cold hammer forging is a good technique but what your actually looking for is how the riffling was cut and what the lining is. 90% of AR barrels should run 200k - 300k rounds before beginning to loose accuracy and fail. most companies that buy the barrels buy them without the riffling and then cut them or button rifle, put a finish on them and their label and call it theirs, but they all originate from 3 main companies. also jsoc and socom do not us DD barrels lmao, they use what the command approves and that goes through manufactures they have contracts with. they may have a contract with DD for their rail for the m4 block 2 or 3, but the M4's are made by FN and then modified by their armorers
@M. Denz it’s a great gun… but if you have spent any time behind it you would know it has some major malfunction issues and it’s like an emotional girl friend. Ever heard the term sear bind before? If you have experience behind a 240 bravo please explain to me what sear bind is and then tell me how awesome the 240 bravo and 249 are. There is a difference between the two machine guns.. both suffer from sear binding. I like these weapons, as a civilian now if I could toss away 10k and already owned a Barrett .50 and some other rifles, buying one of these would be something I’d do.. but I’m not blind to the overwhelming issues that plague these squad weapons machine guns. Also when you say accurate…. What exactly do you consider accurate and comparing its accuracy to what? You mean at 100-500 meter you can control burst fire about a 5 foot group? Or are you comparing it to 1 moa guns. It’s accurate in relation to the m60 if that’s what we’re comparing it too or the Russian PKM variant. I’m the world of belt fed machine guns I suppose we could call it accurate. But that’s not really a fair comparison since it’s a light machine gun (chambered in 556) I’m assuming your talking about the 249 and not the 240. You seemed to glue these two guns togthwr in your text. 240 bravo is 7.62 and is considered a heavy machine guns where the 249b is 556 and considered a light machine gun. Also called a saw (squad automatic weapon) where the 240 bravo does not fall under SAW.
@M. Denz which is it Dude? 240 or 249? They aren’t the same flipping gun. And no shit it uses a FN barrel. Both guns are manufactured by FN. i don’t think you’ve ever shot a 249 or a 240 and have no experience to back up your claims. I wasn’t a machine gunner but I did get to train on the weapon and utilize them in serval occasions. The 240 is 7.62 and is going to be vehicle mounted most of the time or tripod mounted in hardened battle positions. The 249 is the squad automatic weapon, its has a bipod on it but for the most part it’s fired from the shoulder. One is 7.62 and the other is 556. If you were to group it with single shots your looking at about 3 moa. Not terribly inaccurate but not accurate at the same time. To glorify the weapon for accuracy is glorifying it for the wrong reason. Like I stated in my other comment to you, I’d buy one for my personal arsenal… only if I could get it in full auto though. A semi auto 249 or 240 is absolutely retarded and takes away from any advantages these weapons have. Because if I was looking at putting accurate shots on target I’d use my AR… hmmm it’s almost like this is how squads are put together. The saw puts down semi accurate hate on the enemy well the more accurate riflemen take position to blast the squirters and your other rifle men move forward to flank enemy position. That’s it’s role, if you have just ARs or other rifles like ARs and come across an enemie patrol or hardened position your gonna have a hard time bounding or moving at all. In fact bounding over watch is almost always performed any your saw gunner. And that’s it’s claim to fame. Being moderately accurate, with controllable full auto fire (which is what makes it accurate is the rate Of fire and weight of the gun) and being light enough for a machine gun that soldiers can carry and shoulder fire the weapon… that’s it right there. The fact it can be carried by a single soldier into combat. That’s what makes the 249 a formidable firearm. But jamming, part breakage, extreme part wear, extreme maintance, sear binding issues, reloading issues because whoever designed the feed tray wasn’t thinking about soldiers being shot at hiding behind a rock trying to feed a new belt into that bitch. So many issues plague this firearm. The new squad weapon program I disagree with the weapon they are trying to replace, the new sig spear and sig light and heavy machine guns should be replacing the 240, the 249 and any AR10 rifles. 6.8 shouldn’t be replacing 556. Funny cause the military is keeping the 249 and trying to replace the AR. Which is backwards, the new sig fixes all the issues of the 249 and only weighs 12 pounds. But they are gonna buy new 6.8 barrels for the 240 and 249… makes no flipping sense. I understand if you love the FN saw but don’t ignore it’s glaring flaws or try to say it’s something it simple is not.
Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast. - Ron Burgundy.
*Colion Noir* Sweet rifle, thank-you sir for taking the time to show us. God Bless.
I bought an FN-15 years ago. Yes, I upgraded the grip, stock and charging handle - mainly to deal with suppressed gas. Their CHFCL barrels are bulletproof 😉
It’s a solid set up and my primary rifle. Good to 500 yds all day with a 1-4. Glad I bought it before COVID and Brandon’s price hike!
I bought an FN 15 Patrol Carbine. I haven't upgraded anything because I honestly don't know what I should upgrade. I'm relatively new to guns. I'm pretty sure I made a good choice with it though. I really like it.
@@bobbrock4221 it will serve you well. Take it out and get used to it as much as you can. If I could go back, the second purchase following the FN and mags and ammo would be a suppressor. Don’t let the unconstitutional tax, registration and wait time deter you. ARs are LOUD. God forbid you’re ever put in a situation where you need one indoors, there’s no reason you or your family should all suffer from lifelong hearing loss. While you wait for it, get a very good light with a switch pad and a sling.

I'm so happy you did a review on this. Been looking for a good review. Was torn between this FN, the BCM, and a KAC. This makes me want the FN.
KAC> wayyyy better than both of these. There is many brands I’d get before FN in that price
Have you compared the prices?
You can’t go wrong but KAC is extremely good quality
Kac is the best on that list then bcm
KAC is probably the best. Super expensive though. Might just splurge and go for one. Really do love this FN though.
FN makes great stuff, I have an fn upper on my main rifle and she runs like a champ.
Here in AZ. That paint design is vital for any kind of camoflauge. Absolutely love the two tone black and tan cerakote. It's also just nice to see something other that straight black on an AR.
It's an FN so I wont expect anything less than quality. I've EDC'ed an FNX45 for so many years because they make great products and they are built locally to me.
I just Figured out exactly Why , Your Channel Is My Favorite, Firearm Channel. It's the Production Value, Very Well Produced and edited, You don't drag out a video , with any Unnecessary Shots and Mange to Voice over the range action , even when You're doing the Sponsor Spots. You Manage to keep it flowing and Interesting 100% of the time! Thanks, Don't change a thing :) and I'll Keep Watching , Liking and Sharing.
I've been waiting for a leveled up FN AR 15. This is awesome.
I have a tactical II and it’s a pretty solid rifle. It has the wedge lock rail as well.
Nice job sir. The last thing I thought before watching this was "I really need another AR", but now I'm kind of anxious to check one of these out. Great video. 👍🏼
Omg. Thank you for this review. I've been eyeing this and there was no review at all
I like the Titanium grey model myself, Saw one awhile back and it caught my eye fir certain! Love FN barrels, Hard to beat!
I never wanted an A R - 15 until I saw this brand of Rifle ♦️
??
Your FN509c video put me on the path to buying one. Great vid as always!
The Tac3 is between $1600 - $1650 and a nice pretty tool but on the high side for this guy. I do like the grip.
Hit the nail on the head with this one. High quality gun, where you don’t have to spend a lot of money replacing things, but it’s nothing mind blowing That is the best description for the TAC3. Although FN loves overcharging for their product. You can get the same amount of gun, for a little less, going with something like a BCM.
Can you elaborate? Looking into purchasing something like the tac3, but if I can find something similar and quality but cheaper I’ll do that.
Bcm ar15's are basically the same price as the fn tac 3 unless you get the one with the oldschool optics not ready handgaurd
Go look for a BCM RECCE 16" with M-Lock handguard and then get back to me.
The "high quality" feel you get is how i feel about my Ruger 556
Lol. I have one. Very nice rifle. Mine has the A2 sight on the front.
@@urblotasunkynewulf615 I'm torn on putting a dot sight, ranged optic, or slapping a carry handle on it
Get red dot first then rear flip up sight
@@jordanreynolds6802 I ended up putting the Vortex strikefire II on it. Magpul Bad Lever and a binary trigger. Lots of fun.
@@vannlo355 Well I decided on the red dot because I have a Ar-10 that I shoot at distance. I keep the Ruger kinda short range because it's a little gun and I can move with it quicker in cqb situations. Plus I had no experience with red dots previously and wanted to try them out. You could put a ranged scope and a red dot on if you really wanted to.
I swapped my trigger with a Geissele SD-E before shooting it. I don’t like the dry firing so I swapped it. Bought Eotech Vudu and mounted it on a Unity Fast mount. Love the rifle.
I dig it. You find some good outdoor ranges as well.
Brain: "NO! WE CANT AFFORD IT!!!!!
Me: But but its so pretty
What is the price?
Next thing you know you have a new toy trying to figure out how you're going to pay this months bills?
@@Jackthat1 MSRP $1,599 for all black, $200 more for the one in the video.
@@Jackthat1 $1799...
As I can put my own damn rifle together, I remain unimpressed.
Damn, now I need that gun.
FN 15. The rifle in affordable pricing for those wishing to own a scar 16 😅
Lmao the stock "we wanna be magpul but not magpul, who are we? Smith & Wesson? Colt?"
Hexmags are just plain lovely looking!
I have 41 FNs. The Tac 3 is a Tac 2 with a DMR2 handguard and Radian/FN furniture. I’ve compared them side by side. It’s a fine rifle, but not ground breaking, even at $1300-1400 street price.
I was wondering about that. Yeah I threw a Sig charging handle on mine and I'm pretty happy with it, the radian is more bulky than I like.
Very few ARs are ground breaking.
I'm just a casual plinker but I did experiment with a few pricier drop in single stage triggers ,only to find I prefer an inexpensive NB coated otherwise mil-spec trigger. Dirty Bird ,AT3 and a few others sell them for a little more than their standard trigger.
If your not a competitive shooter and want something a little crisper they're a budget friendly upgrade.
If only I didn't already have a safe full of AR-15s...
I guess another one will No difference!!😂
more of these style of videos. My favorite kinda Colion videos!
I fuckin love this guy. Nior keep up the vids bro. The way you talk about your guns sound so much like the way I do its just cool.
Sorry if this question was asked but what scope mount is he using for his leupold lpvo?
Dang, that looks like a fine weapon. And that was definitely some fine shooting.
danm that high speed mag dump on the steel silloutte was pretty impressive, both gun and shooter
I’ve had the Tac 3 in carbine grey for about 5 months now it feels amazing. The only thing I want to upgrade on it is a Geiselle SSP trigger and it will be perfect!
This breaks my heart that I'm not able to get out of Massachusetts.
Just ordered me one about 5 days ago through my local FFL. Should be here Friday. I can’t wait. I’ve got a Zev 16” and a Sons 13.7”, im a sucker for the wedgelock handguard. Wish Hodge would have stuff in stock more but that’ll be the day
Been looking at the Zev and the FN, what is your take since you have both?
@@Dpixtion I’d go with the FN. if I had to pick one. It shoots tighter groups. For me anyway.
DAMN THATS A NICE LOOKING TOY!
You had me at "Sun Kissed Hazelnut"
Hitting steel right there.
Man You get all the good toys..
Man keep up the good work, your videos have amazing quality!!
If I didn’t already have my Daniel Defense AR, I’d check this out. Love my FN pistols in my FNX .45 tactical and my 509C MRD
Wow! That's the: "I'm SO sorry I checked out that overpriced BCM when I thought you weren't looking", rifle.
It’s funny to hear people say I can built it better for cheaper. I just built an upper with a surplus FN upper, 14.5 FN CHFCL FSP barrel, DD Ris 2 rail, SF3P, radian safety & Radian NP3 CH. geissele SSA, springco spring, M600 light….All top tier parts. I have over $2500 in this build. Fuck my BCG was $230 alone. But every single part was picked with purpose. It’s a spendy bitch but will go to the grave with me. I’ll need it in hell. So idk what kinda rifles y’all are building that cost less than a factory rifle, unless it’s some garbage PSA kit or something comparable.
good job, FN. welcome to 2015
It's kinda like FN saw the URG-I upper, and then waited a few years to say "hey, people like modern ARs, right?"
@@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz "do we have the technology to do this free float?"
I was able to buy an FN 15 Upper a few years ago. Built a nice lower, added a Romeo and Juliet. It is a SHOOTER!!! I could sale everything, except FN Ar and FNX 45!!
That's solid from tip to butt. Damn FN takin it serious now
Rifle seems nice, but at the given MSRP, I'd rather have an Aero lower and a BCM upper and still have lots of money left over for furniture and other misc parts.
What's the price?
@@fieldmarshalbaltimore1329 FN's website said $1800 MSRP.
@@weisshxc 🙄 paying for brand name. I typically like Noir but when he said "competitively priced" I knew it was BS and would be like almost $2000.
I have a Palmetto State Armory AR15 kit, with flip up irons, magnifier, red dot, and a sling for about $800.
I'd take that against that FN rifle in a shooting match anyday.
@@fieldmarshalbaltimore1329 I'm rocking a PSA lower and an Aero upper. I feel like once you get into BCM upper territory you start hitting diminishing returns and aren't getting anymore for your money.
@@weisshxc agreed. Buy ammo, not fancy guns lol. A lot of this gun stuff is diminishing returns... You just are paying for brand name.
FN: We did it boy's! we're finally back in the good graces of The Lion!
I’m in Cali..mine would be handicapped but still enjoy the vids..great review
Thanks for a another great review. Very similar to Leadstar Grunt. Nothing to change or fix on a Grunt. Great trigger w glass break and flash hider/brake. Soft shooter.
I gotta admit. It is one of the sexier looking ARs on the market at the moment (at least that I’ve seen).
decent barrels for sure. I still prefer my custom Noveske/B.A.D./Aero 13.7 mid. Runs well and is gassed well for quick shooting and cans.
Music seems to be distorted in the lower frequencies. Like the content!
😂😂👍
Damn you and your sunkissed hazelnut reference...lol now thats all i am going to remember this color by.
Great video. Bought one if these recently and agree with you. Great firearm for the price.
Just bought a FN barrel. Like building too much to buy a complete rifle. Looking forward to getting it to the range.
oh wow, more money I do not have to spend

Colion I thought you said just send me a Cigar instead! LOL 😆 SCAR! 👊👍👍
I bought one recently, awesome rifle
I like my FN MC M4. I just can't see going to FN for a more modern setup when KAC, LMT, and others have those bases covered better for a similar price tag.
I'm so gonna' order my next Starbucks iced coffee with "Sunkissed Hazelnut".
Man you were dumping that mad at the end✌🏽✌🏽
I love "sun kissed hazelnut."
I only watch Colion to find out whether or not he thinks something is Sexy.

My problem with fn is they are great gun at 1200 but kind of disappointing at 1800. The scar is a great gun at 1600 to 1800 major disappointment at 3200. I think the fn tac 2 looks better
The SCAR is the best $1,500 gun that you pay $3,000 for.
The FN Tac II is a great rifle. I run it as my patrol rifle and it's never given me any heartache.
Boi he opened it up at the end lol 😂
Even I was surprised at how fast I could run this thing p

IYKYK
Not gonna lie I prefer the older FN TAC II. The rail is shorter which allows you to cut the barrel to a 14.5 flush with the rail. Also I prefer the Magpul furniture. The radian charging handle/safety doesn’t make a difference to me I have a bunch of those laying around
I’m definitely getting one or two
Wow an ar15 so unique so original so innovative
Some great shooting there with the video and the gun!
If FN offers you something young man, you say "Thank you, sir. May I have another?"
Nice. Still like my DD more.
