My step farther, Harry Blythe worked on the hand made bricks in Cherry Orchard and also lived at the cottages with my mum, Gwen. Thanks for a great film clip.
Like others, I saw the tracks but not the trains - I grew up in Hockley. My dad used to know a friend in the Cherry Orchard area during the '90s before the new bypass was built. When I was a kid, he told me about the brick works and showed me the tracks, and I'd have loved to see what ran along said tracks - This video solves that childhood "mystery". So thanks. :) The last bit of track shown at 7:14 and at the end of your video is on the cycle route which I used to use to get to and from Southend (I no longer live in Essex), and I'd think about it each time I'd cross that little bit of surviving embedded track.
Wow - I remember these narrow tracks when I used to cycle down Cherry Orchard Lane but have never seen the trains working until this video - what a gem of a film :)
Brings back memories. I grew up in Hockley and worked at the Airport eventually. I used to cycle and motorcycle through Cherry Orchard very often. The muddy bit at Aviation way was always good fun.
This was our playground when we were kids in the 70`s, a lot of this film is roughly where Toomey`s is today, I had 2 mates that lived up the lane, one lived in the right hand end cottage, the other in the farm halfway along, both of the dads worked for Milton Hall Bricks, before Butterley Bricks took over, we all lived an idyllic childhood in the countryside, i still live in the same place.
Great cameo on the railway and well edited, thanks.
Kore, what a great video! My lad plays football at Ashingdon football club and we always wondered what that train line was used for! Now we know!
That was just awesome, you see the loop in one area showing that more traffic would have been working further back in years. thank you for up loading.
I remember seeing the tracks and little level crossing when cycling down Cherry Orchard Lane in the early 80s; great to see the line in action.
And it all became Cherry Orchard Park. Fascinating film. The Friends group would welcome any contributions about the beginnings of the park.

I knew Harry from Cornish and Cherry orchard lane

Fantastic bit of video!
Do you have any knowledge of the Brickfields in Cranham about 26 miles to the west which are also Essex Clay.
I was not aware of Cranham Brickfields - I think it closed before WW2 !
@@robinpinnock2678 possibly but I didnt move there until December 1967 at the age of 7 from Emerson Park
Does anyone remember finding rounders bats over there. Brilliant for eeling over wakering stairs.
The tracks are still in the road where it crossed to enter the works.
