Bought this new in 1998 at Target along with the B9 robot. Still have both of them today. Yes they are not perfect , but they take you back to the 60's when Irwin Allen produce Lost in Space to a generation of wide eyed kids who loved sci-fi shows.
100% mate. Thats what its all about. These were just the toys, so you're right, not perfect but lots of nostalgia and fun fornus fans 👍❤ thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply
As a kid, I would have LOVED this. As an adult, I find it hard to overlook all the inaccuracies. I'm not expecting a museum quality model, but why couldn't they have put all the freezing tubes together? Why does the area where the pod goes, continue all the way to the center of the ship even though the pod doesn't occupy it all? Why no elevator and ladder? I mean these are small details that would have made it more accurate without impacting any of the features that they included.
Thanks for watching. Im guessing as its a toy they have thought of a couple of play features for kids to play with so it can remain affordable for parents. The collector inside us want more for sure. It would be amazing to find a "collectors" edition where its more accurate 😊👍🙏
One of the BEST flea market finds of my life: Found this ship (not working of course, no box ) but in good shape with the ROBOT still inside (POD, Will & Smith were missing). $1.00 !
I'm in Canada and LiS is shown on a local 'classic' channel each weeknight (midnight Pacific time). The episodes play in sequence and I never miss them. Yes, I believe they did make a full-size mock up of the ship, but it was only properly utilized for a couple of the episodes. I have a remote control Robot toy, which I bought in '98, which was released by Toy Island MFG, I believe.
I've actually got THREE of these. I got one from a comic shop when they were first released. When Trendmasters was going out of business, they were selling inventory direct from their website and I ordered two more. One is on display and the other two remain unopened.
What I really liked about all of Irwin Allen.and Gerry Andersons science fiction series is the OPTIMISM they brought that the future will be better for everybody .
Wow, fantastic toy. I agree it's a missed opportunity to have the hatch open up to a boarding ramp. I do love that the top can be removed and you can play in the interior. Cool pod and I love the Minifigures. That set is amazing. Super fun video. #keepitcasual #fullwatch #growtogether
I have a Jupiter 2 model that I found in an antique shop. That one does have 2 levels, many of the internal features were laying loose inside, so I attempted to reconstruct it using a combination of photos and blueprints from the LIS book I have. I didn't glue them into place at this point because I'm not 100%convinced that I have it right.
Jupiter Two is so awesome Andrew 😎 love it ❤️ always looking to find one to add to my collection at a reasonable price 🤔 great video 👏😁 It was great meeting you guys 👍
Awesome! You've inspired me to watch a few episodes today. 🤖👽 Trendmasters doesn't get enough credit for making great toys...Godzilla, Galactica, John Carter, Mars Attacks, so much great stuff. Too bad they didn't last longer (the big iguana had no small part in their downfall). Great review!
I have a couple of Trendmasters 1998 Godzilla figures, including the 2 foot long one. That one the tail connector collar broke and I had to hot glue the tall in place. Still looks good though. Got it and the other 1998 stuff at Big Lots. The 2 footer was 14 dollars. I also got the bank and a couple of other figures.
The box is long, long gone, but my Jupiter 2 is sitting on my shelf as I type this. There's no other spaceship like it, not even the NCC-1701. One landing strut doesn't like to hold for long so the ship lilts a little in its direction after a while, but it was actually like that when I first got it 22 years ago. I just wish they had made an accompanying Space Chariot.
Good 'ol Irwin Allen, the J2 has a semi-tardis interior. That lower level is just as big as it needs to be, whenever it needs to. With the quarters, the pod, the chariot and the propulsion unit. I'll bet the Seaview could have been as big as Red Dwarf inside if he needed it to be.
I also wondered about that full-scale mock-up. I also wondered if it had an actual interior. Again, I don't expect that it had a camera ready set inside, but I wonder if the actors could actually go up inside it, walk to the front and look out the windows. To be honest, I don't remember the details of the episode well enough to recall if you could ever see the actors inside it through the windows.
I remember hunting about to find out what happened to the mock up Jupiter 2. I believe some parts were taken off it for other uses in TV shows, one of the landing gear legs was used somewhere but the rest decayed on a back lot somewhere as far as I could find out. It wasn't full size but big enough to give the impression, also it had no interior as such.
That's awesome..yeah I'm with you in watching this show, Space 1999, Thunderbirds and the Star Trek cartoon on Saturday mornings..never saw this vehicle although I did see the 97 LIS movie..um yeah it was alright I guess the new TV show is pretty good though..nice to see that the sound and light still working..you must have taken the batteries out when you stored it..cheers mate🍺🍺🍻
Thanks Si, i guess we can be thankful that the 97 LIS film produced some new interest for the franchise and got this classic ship made as a toy 😁 Have to agree, the new Netflix show isnt too bad. I think we're halfway thru the 3rd and final season 👍😊
good video ,i have this ,also the large figures & robot b-9 .got them at target back in the day. . when i was a kid i always wanted the spaceship .its a shame they never put out the rest of the figures in either size ,the cyclops fits well with these smaller figures & the 9inch since he appeared on the show in both sizes .thanx for shareing
Thanks for watching. I think i got at Toys R Us. It was a shame they didnt do figures. Would've been great to have the whole crew 🤩 RIP Mark Goddard who passed the other day too 😞
Huge missed opportunity to maximise their profits. They should have produced two more accurate collectibles. One of the single level Gemini 12 with Chariot. And of course the upsized one with the two decks and the Space Pod. A ramp with the mandatory Force Field Generators, terrain scanner and hydroponic garden would have been some very nice additions. Throw in some laser guns and the laser cannon while you are at it. For me The Liberator from Blake's 7 and the Gemini 12 / Jupiter II are the most aesthetically pleasing space craft ever devised. Always an immense pleasure to see them on the screen. Cheers from the Land Down Under.
That Liberator was one of my favs too. I think a collectible version should've been made too 👌 This is just a toy which is trying to be playable and remain affordable 😁 thanks for watching mate, some good points 🙏👍
