I love it. I was born in '66 to parents who would become trek fans. so I got to experience it from an early age. my dad even took me to The Motion Picture when it came out. STOS will always hold a special place in my heart.

I was born in England in 1963. Star Trek: TOS became the filler in between seasons of Doctor Who for the BBC in 1970. I was hooked.
I now live with my TOS collection in Florida m and it keeps growing.
Thank you for endorsing why I didn't purchase this model.

The paint job is fantastic. Compared to the pre-built Polar Lights for $450, with an absurd paint job and no lighting, it is unbelievable. Put it this way, my wife says she loves it. She even posed for a picture with it... and she hates having her picture taken, so I know she's being sincere!
It is an impressive piece. I encourage you to email Tomy and let them know what you think. We might get a D7 or a Refit/A out of them someday.
The paint job and finish on my piece is just flawless. Like you would expect if you had a new car... minus the screw caps. 😊

@@goodwilj I've been amassing materials to build a high level 1701-A 1:350 scale refit Polar Lights Enterprise model when I retire in a few years. I'm going to put in some servos for animation of certain shuttle bay items, a couple of wifi interior view video cams, LED lighting effects, sound effects, and the interference color paint and masks to do the aztec hull patterning with an airbrush, an interior metal support armature, fiber optics, railroad landscaping materials for the aboratum... about 1K in materials. I'm also going to do a custom kit bashed Dakota shuttle carrier... praying that they come out with a 1:350 USS Reliant model soon!

It’s a beautiful rendition of a great ship. I used to be really critical and anal about details. So glad I’ve move on from that. You know, the percentage of us that have passion for these things is very low. We’re fortunate every time someone produces these products. If it wasn’t for Lucille Ball, we wouldn’t even have Star Trek.

    • @cardboard_cave
      @cardboard_cave 7 місяців тому +4

This is so true. I posted some videos of the new playmates enterprise D, and for a $40 toy, I was shocked that over half the comments are complaining about the details, or lack of. It’s far from perfect, but I was surprised to see the expectations for a $40 toy. 😅

    • @Collection_Obsession

Yes, thank you Lucille Ball for being a visionary and giving Star Trek the green light so many years ago. Perhaps she was intrigued by an intellectual property that would show a future where women and minorities being featured in prominent roles. Lucy herself was a trail blazer in so many areas of her life and television. She being the 1st woman at the time to run a studio among many other "firsts" in her life.

That's just incredible. At heart, I'm more of a refit Enterprise fan, but since they were able to update the effects on TOS, I've come to appreciate what a marvelous machine it represents. Considering how close this kickstarter project came to being shelved , as Tomy kept lowering the threshold as to the minimum number of supporters and dollars required to make this happen, I guess we are lucky to have gotten even this. I was one of the supporters that even bought 2 just to see it get made. When we got the message from Tomy stating their ultimate inability to make all their marketing promises a reality , I must say I was very disappointed but in the end I have made peace with most of my disappointments. Really the only thing in the end that disappoints me is why couldn't the screw plugs of body of the Star drive hull have been on the port side instead of the starboard side? All of the rest of the screw plugs and seam lines don't bother me anymore because it looks so awesome powered up. I'm glad I didn't cancel my orders. I came soooo close but didn't. For $600 including taxes and shipping of a 40 pound box of a die cast piece of art, i think is a very fair price. I hope Tomy has learned from this experiment and will continue and make more Star Trek vessels. Though i think they will probably need to charge more to bring more of their intended promises to fruition, which I would gladly pay to see other ships made. 🖖 Peace and long life Tomy.

I love mine!! For me, it's a solid B+. So glad I didn't let the grumpy guys disuade me from keeping her. I am hoping that Tomy will apply the lessons learned, and produce a line of Trek ships. It would be an awful waste of the experience they've now gained if they did not. I am hoping for a 1/350 TOS Klingon D-7 as a display companion for this one! NO ONE has done that, and I think the fandom would respond very favorably. And the DeLorean Time machine is gonna be great! I ordered three! :D Thanks for the great video!

Absolutely amazing ship there. Yes, the screw caps are an issue, but another nitpick I have is the view of the Bridge. It's supposed to be rotated 38°; It doesn't face directly front due to the fact that on the show, the turbolift door was off to Kirk's left (for visual reasons), but the actual turbolift shaft is centered in the dorsal.

The screws and covers are there to access the electronics for future replacement etc.
If you did what model makers did in the old days, you would use body putty to hide them, then use a small spray gun to remove the seem.
It would mean some work and possible damage if you needed to access or replace the electronics in future, but a car body mechanic may be able to do a better repair job as the model is metal!

It's beautifull and the detail is awesome!!! The translucent bridge dome is great, except fot he fact that the orientation of the bridge is wrong, it should be aligned with the turbolift in a diagonal way.

Really beautiful ship and a nice scale. As a ST fan I love this ship from TOS. I own a much little 1701 made by Corgi. Nice model, together with the Klingon Bird of Prey and the 1701 D from the next generation I own. They perfectly fit in my room 😉The only thing I don't like is most of the weathering on the ship. On several parts it looks like the model is yellowing. But hey, that is nitpicking. Nice review 👍

It looks great. It would be nice if a few of the windows were lit independently and would randomly turn on and off.

Great review. I remember examining the Master Replicas ship at Forbidden Planet in NYC. This one gets more details correct. The shuttles seem a bit too large for the bay, though. I'd replace them with one from Shapeways.

I found the shuttle bay door cover the exact same way. But I was wearing socks so luclily no damage. Was not held in the styrofoam real well.

Beautiful model. This one has a little something that is on the dome on the underside of saucer section. I don't remember seeing that on any other model, diagram, picture or in any episode.

Great video. I ordered two and even after Tomy sent the refund/cancel email, I decided to keep my order. The screw hole in the engineering hull could have been taken care of by putting them on the bottom and have the go up through the center of the hull to scree into the top. It would have created a possible seam through the side center line, but the pennant on the side would detract your view from it. I would rather deal with a seam than the screw hole covers.
The only other issue i have is the stand and shuttles. I may never display it with the saucer separated, and most videos I have seen people are displaying it without the support for the saucer. The shuttles are just plain bad. I am currently scouring the internet for a 1/350 shuttle stl file to print some on my 3D printer. I am hoping it is just a stud and glue holding the two "halves" together. I will take one and try to separate it either with a saw or pry it apart, sand down both sides and glue them back together. But we shall see.
I haven't set it up yet because I need to make room. I have a Master Replicas and Polar Lights prebuilt 1/350's so I need to make room.

If you find that the lights won’t stay on long, try changing the batteries. I had that issue and putting in new batteries fixed it. When I tested the nearly new original batteries I found they were very weak.

Screw caps covers? A little bit of Bondo and some paint, someone will do it! I have this, I am not a big collector, I see what you see. I am still glad I got it. Like you mentioned for the price of it you get a lot. Plus, I can use the saucer as a weapon if needed.

I noticed that the bridge has the captain's chair aligned with the forward axis. This isn't the case as the turbo lift is just to the side, off axis thus the captain's chair should not be aligned with the ship's axis.

I like it that way. You can see the red turbolift doors inside the bridge.
