This bike is a work of art. I think HD should throw the museum a sponsorship for all of the work these guys do to preserve the history and stories behind these legendary bikes. Matt is amazing and I love listening to the story of each bike.
Harley isn’t parting with any money. They even quit drag racing sponsorships.
@@davidfowler2124 Their more interested in being woke, so they are sponsoring drag queens instead. 🤢
@@testosteroneinc.3800 Two weeks ago in Texas Angelle Sampay told me that
I wish they would show this recognition
They do great work 👏 they should be sponsored by HD.:)
Brings back fond memories of assembling my '45 FL
Brother, what I'd give to have your working knowledge of these bikes!! Listening to you is like going to Knucklehead church!
There's so many contests with great prizes yet most people opt for the cash alternative prize. This is one of those exceptions we're I'd definitely prefer the actual prize over any cash value.
That thing would not become a garage queen either! That's an everyday driver for many of us buying tickets.
Some go to a museum to see history, some of us drive history for others to see and hear.
Matt’s not excited at all lol . That enthusiasm is contagious great video.
Why does this channel not have more subscribers. Everyone, make it a point to tell two people you just met at each motorcycle gathering you go to. The numbers could triple in a year.
What they said👆
Beautiful, nice watching my new knuckle come together 😁
Good luck ! ......but this one's for me. You can have the next two.
I love how, even after all the years you've done builds and assembly procedures, you're still stoked about it! This bike is truly coming out as a rolling work of art...Beautiful job as usual, Matt!✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Your dad has taught you well and you are passing on your knowledge to everyone.. thankyou.
Got my tickets Matt. The 37 Knuckle T-shirt looks fantastic BTW! Threw it right on and went for a nice ride on my Crossbones Springer Softail just to get it out in the wind!
Thanks for the support! Glad you like the shirt.
Imagine tooling around Maggie Valley on this absolute piece of motorcycle art.
imagine if it was yours
Yeah I'd rather be tooling around on it in my neighborhood. Haha! It would be awesome!!
Thank you so much for putting all the time and labor into my new engine.
So amazing, he makes it look so so simple but I couldn’t do it if I had him standing there instructing me. You rock Matt 👍😮
It's truly amazing to watch you waltz thru that assembly while spewing out the functionality and history of each part! Kudos go out to you and all for keeping this major part of 2 wheels America alive!
I can literally feel his excitement through the video.
im catcited 🐱 myself!!
Yeah , he gets spoiled up tighter than an 8 day clock. Hahahahaa
Matt I love how you take the time and explain the what's and why's, of proper assembly!!
What a beauty that bike will be, very cool.
As always, good stuff, Matt. Keep them coming.
The heart of that beast is as beautiful as the finished bike. Had a great time at the Kick Start Challenge. Keep up the good work, Matt.
wow didnt notice motor and gearbox were made separate entities back then!!!
best HD era, i want one now
Absolutely becoming a fantastic bike👌
Love watching the knowledge & passion 👍
You have to be the Best Harley Mechanic there is ! That oil tank is beautiful, great job . Everything is absolutely Beautiful. Your work is second to none !
Man we gotta get back down to see ya. I so love that town. And the pancakes from Joeys.
You make it look so easy but your work is absolutely amazing and superior!!! God bless!!!
Many old Harley manuals tell you to lay the bike on it's side for engine removal. Anyone that's struggled putting an engine in soon realizes the wisdom in that print.
Yep I had a 84 HD sportster Roadster for many years look it up they were only made for a few years that had the FXR style tanks in these years but I decided to go through and rebuild mine years ago doing custom paint and chrome and had the engine built balanced with a bunch of go fast goodies so it was making well over 100 + HP when it was dynoed but these engines are a tight fit in the frames on these years so the easiest way to get them in and out is to lay the frame on it's side and when I put my engine back in I used thick duct tape and cardboard to help keep the frame from being scratched when installing being the frame was also painted to match the color of the tanks and fenders which was House of colors candy tangerine orange . I had the bike several years after then sold it to a guy and it got stolen as I got a phone call from him asking if I had any pictures of the bike when it was completed and said yes because he needed proof of what the bike looked like besides what parts receipts I gave him along with the engine build sheets and Dyno sheets so he could try to get insurance to pay for the bike being stolen . At the time he lived in an apartment and didn't have a garage and had worked out something with this old lady next door to pay her to let him keep the bike in her garage but he never got a key so when he would come home after riding he would contact her to park the bike in the garage and one day she wasn't around so he left the bike sitting outside not sure if he locked the fork or not but it got stolen . I told him I wanted the picture back but never did get it back and I don't think the bike was ever recovered that I know of . I lived in MPLS MN at the time and the local biker gang the Hell's Angels had a shop a few blocks away and Pat Matters the president of the Hell's Angels MPLS club had got busted at his house with drugs and 800,000 cash and a bunch of stolen bikes and parts I read years after I moved the hell out of that cesspool so I bet they ended up with my old bike that I sold . I know for a fact that they had the El forsteros driving around in vans stealing bikes for them with usually a couple guys in the back of the van to go spot bikes then either wheel them into the van or just lift them into the van I had heard and seen plain white panel vans at bars that would drive in and out probably looking for bike to hit and steal . I at least have a couple pictures of the bike still before and after to bring back memories of it but what a shame that it got stolen but at least it wasn't on my watch .
When my shop is busy, I will do a couple in and outs a day. Never have figured out why anyone would want to do it sideways, everything is under tension the wrong way. You can completely unbolt the engine, and it will just sit there. Then hug the cylinders and lift with your knees.
I'm 57, busted up ex racer. If I can do it, . . .
"hopefully we'll have a few break in miles" he's thinking, I can't wait to ride this bike!
I really like that green bobber on the bench in the backyard. Like that green, greens my favorite color.😊
I need a big baby bib. Cause I can't stop drooling 🤤 It's a dream just watching you assemble this collection of early American craftsmanship. Excellent job Matt, and all involved 👍
When Matt set the 37EL motor in, it was like watching a surgeon performing a heart transplant.
Very cool love your work, passion and history Matt. Primo
I really enjoy your video's. You are very meticulous about explaining the parts and assembly of the motorcycle that you are working on. I wish you all the best in the future.
Thanks for watching, subscribe to see more.
@@wheelsthroughtime already am thank you
A thing of beauty.... I toured the Harley plant in 1994 but it was nothing compared to watching this bike go together.
So many memories. Awesome Bike Matt.
So much fun watching this build! Motivates you take a build on. No anti-seize lubricant on those bolts before installing?
Thanks 😎 Matt

Great job Matt. Your love of bikes is clearly evident. Everything about this video is clear and concise - the audio, videography and explanations were spot on. I can only imagine the amount of research you put into this machine. Matt you’ve done your Dad proud. Thank you !!!

I worked one summer at the local army reserve installation here in my town. The Seargent in command had purchased a crate engine from military surplus. It came with suicide shift. I don't recall the year but he left off a bit of the military extras and made it a stripped down rider. One major issue he had was that he had to wrench on the bike every so often to keep everything from rattling loose. He eventually cut slots in the bolts and other parts and using bailing wire devised a way to keep most everything snug and rattle free.
I could watch and learn from you all day love these videos.
Admittedly, if I were the winner of one of these I’d never sell it. It would be ridden every weekend proudly.
As you should!
Wow … just … wow… Awesome buddy…
Such a big twin engine. American pride.
Can watch you do your stuff all day Matt love the passion. Are we eligible to win this in Australia..👍🏻🇦🇺
Yes sir! Thanks for watching!
Buddies had old knuckles and pans in the late 70's and early 80's out here in Cali BUT none are as Beautiful as this is surely going to be... This is what a Motorcycle is supposed to be. Pushrods, Fabulous heads, Spoke rims, Springer Forks... If I could try, I would. I'm actually very excited for the Winner as they will definitely be getting one of the prettiest Harleys in the Country, if not the World...
Man you are brilliant at this stuff. Your Dad must have been amazing.
Man , that is looking Great 👍 , wish the reassembly of my Moto Guzzi went that quick ... Lol
My back hurts just watching 😆
The restoration shop is just so cool 😎 and teens motorcycle shop in the museum is awesome 👌
Dale you sneaky *not actually so sneaky* leaving the Bikes&Beards flathead in the back of the video.
Love it !!!
Matt really learned a lot from his late great dad, Dale. He really knows what he's doing and what he's saying. If I win that beautiful machine, I'd ride it everyday that I can. Beautiful!
beautiful work my friend !
So sweet
Also Matt, great work on that knuckle
I really cannot get interested in Harleys post 1970, but the early stuff is just fantastic, I wished I lived in the states just so I could enter the raffle for this bike, someone is going to be very happy 👍🏻
WOW! 35,000 for an engine! I've never paid that much for an entire bike, lol. She is a pretty work of art. Can't wait to hear it fireup 👍
I can already see it is going to be beautiful.
Looks awesome
Sweet
It’s beautiful ! What about the green one behind you? I normally don’t go for green but I really like that one !
Impeccable attention to detail brother! I too use engine/motor interchangeably lol. It's a MOTORcycle, so why not?
This is the content I like teaching us how bikes work and how they go together
Hope to see you guys soon 😎
Come on, we'll be ready!
Now that really is one very handsome beast, bikes ok too

Matt, This beautiful machine is going to be more perfectly built than anything Harley-Davidson has produced since Mr. Harley and Mr. Davidson started hiring outside employees. An absolutely fantastic machine, thanks for your dedication.

Silly question, maybe... Torque on those motor mounts? Guessing 65-70 judging by the muscle put into it...
👍🏼😎
Would you please do one on balancing an engine? The getting anybody to explain to me exactly how to balance a Harley Davidson motor.
Wow…..
