Perhaps there is a "so ugly people look away" ugly that could be useful.
He shouldn't have said ugly in the video, bc in another he said ugly isn't good too. Like u said, memorably ugly is not good. He says like normal or bland or average looking is good.

Read the Grey Man books- The titular Grey Man is said to be so average looking that one of the characters says "He could walk through your kitchen and you wouldn't notice him".
Ironically I’m pretty sure Daniel Craig played the Grey Man in the movie

Tom Hanks is forgettable until you hear his voice though. He has a very iconic voice.
Thats why i like film characters like Jason Bourne or Robert McCall from Equalizer, ordinary looking men with CIA skills.

I think it depends entirely on what kind of work the spy is doing. Schmoozing with powerful people, "pumping" women for information etc. is exactly the sort of thing a James Bond looking guy would be useful for.

I disagree totally! Fact: I was at FOB J-Bad in Afghaistan at a synch meeting in 2005 and CIA had 2 POCs there. They drove up in a black bulletproof Land Cruiser. These 2 guys got out looking like GQ Models wearing Ray Bans. Both were about 6'2"/6'3". They looked as though they were ready for a fashion show, not combat 😂
