seat folds into a bed? that shows the Nash heritage...my Dad taught me to appreciate the workhorses of the U.S. auto industry, these were the cars most people bought, easy to service under your shade tree, reliable and economical, cheap to buy...it really doesn't get better, if I could go out and buy it new I would!

My folks bought a new 65 or 6 770 Wagon with the 223 I believe. Perfomed without problems for 200,0000 +. My brother inherited it and sold it. Wish I would have bought it. That engine didn't require the re torques.

Wow, we had the same color combo. I begged my parents to hold onto our until I was of driving age, but they sold it and I cried my eyes out. I still think of about the Rambler to this day, it was such a cool car. The two years that past until I was of driving age to I ended up with my Dad’s 74 coupe deVille which I still own to this day. I only wish I had the Rambler too! Thanks for helping me relive seeing it again!

AMC when cars were built with 99% American parts and Canadian labor when needed whole different world when the rambles was born. The fluctuations did you mean heat expansion rate difference between the head and the block?... After all its an old lady car hence the bifocals! Still a cool piece of America iron!

That's a nice clean little car, awesome find! I love AMC's! Your car reminds me of my papaws old car! It was a white 64. Something happened to it and my dad bought it from my granddad and was going to fix it for us to drive, I was only 9 years old at the time it was 1973 but I remember it well. Sadly it was parked down behind our house and it came a big storm and the creek got up and washed it down stream, the body wasn't hurt but the interior was soaked and smelled, my dad sold it for scrap iron after that. I had high Hope's for it I played in it and couldn't wait till it was fixed again. Gives me a warm feeling to see one again! Looking forward to seeing ya'll do some cruising in it! Thanks for sharing!

My father had a 61??? Rambler with a 3 speed transmission. 1 morning Dad woke me and my brother up at 3am. We drove about 6 hours in the rain to my grandparents cottage on the lake. When we got to our destination the weather was prefect. You cant go back in time but sometimes for just a moment you can.

I like your comments about drum brakes. I've watched lots of old car videos and they are discussed with a sneer. Huh? What? Car DIDN'T have brakes until disk brakes came along? What do they think we did then, drag our foot out the door to stop the car? I recall those days like yesterday and unless one put the pedal to the metal all the time drums stopped the car.

My dad has the same model except it was a 3 on the tree. I remember the reclining seats and thought they were so cool. Back in the day seat belts were not mandatory and I can tell you the dash was indeed made of metal. Yes, after a sudden stop the dash stopped my head. My dad's car had no radio, manual steering and brakes. It was the first car I learned how drive and to do an oil change and remember how spacious the engine bay was. The last thing I remember was since we lived in Canada, both driver and passenger fenders were prone to rust in the upper wheel well. I totally loved the dog dish "R" hub caps.......this was truly a basic car that got you from point A to point B.....My dad had it from 1966 to 1977 and remember it never burned a drop of oil. I am 6'5" and wish they still made basic spacious cars like this. He paid $800 in 1966 for a 2 yr old car with 1000 miles which is about $7000 today.....try buying a 2 yr old car today for even $10,000!

My dad had the 60 classic 660 wagon in a dark blue. 287 v8 auto, no air, no cruise. I ended up driving it way later in 74 and sold it to friend when it had 125k on it (he drove it to 250k and junked it :( ). The starter, radiator, alternator, and water pump all went before 100k and the timing chain went around 100k or so. My frind had an identical wagon in gold and we use to sing the Allman Brothers "Ramblin' man" and substitute "Rambler Man" for the chorus. Oh the memories :)
