I've read many bad reviews on this phone but I still got one 2nd hand new for £30. It came with no instructions so I put my mind back 20 years . I love it so much that my android is buried in the draw with the rest of my junk and I feel 20 years younger, beam me up scot.
Hey! Do you know if WhatsApp only allows for "one-line texts"? Or can you write WhatsApp texts of any length? Another question do WhatsApp groups work normally?
"It really is of no interest to young people." I will be 22 at the end of this month, and I am going to get this phone at 15th day or so. Not all of us want to be zombies.

Hello! Thanks for the review. I am a teenager(19yo) who wants to give up advanced technology and use oldschool stuff so I am very interested in this phone. Can you answer some questions for me? 1. Can you send and receive a picture and/or video on whatsapp? 2. How is the youtube app working? 3. Does it have bluetooth and if so, can you connect earplugs into it and listen to music? (i should get a portable CD player for music tbh) 4. Is the storage enough for texting on whatsapp or do you find it quite low and you need to make space often ao you can use it effectively? Thank you once again! Have a wonderful day/evening!
Hi. So sorry that I haven't replied to your message, I must have missed the notification. I no longer have the phone so I am unable to answer all your questions. I found the phone to be too annoying to use so I switched to the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2.

I have a question for owners of Nokia 2720 Flip phone. Im curious how strong is the "flip" on this phone... What I mean is when its closed and if I put the phone upside down (or in various other angles) will it open automatically or is the mechanism strong enough to keep the phone closed and only manual finger opening will open it?
It is quite strong, much too strong to open inadvertently, so no, it won't flip open of it's own accord. It may loosen up over time/with repeated use, but I doubt it would ever become so loose that it flips open without some manual effort on the part of the user.
I have this phone, I didn't expect much more from it than to mainly function as a phone/wifi hot-spot, but functionality as a phone has 1 slight problem. If a call comes in while the phone is closed and I don't want to answer it, I have not found a way to reject the call properly so I have to press the volume rocker to silence it. Then it rings internally until it times out to voicemail! So not a big problem but not great either!
I have this phone too. If you press both volume up and down button at the same time it rejects the call. You should be able to press both at the same time with your thumb.

@@thejohnrenald Hi, since the 3G network is being phased out, I'm desperate to find a non-smartphone that still is decent but works on 4G. Have been looking into this model, but then Nokia 1st told me you CAN send/received MMS with it, yet when I double-checked that it would include sending/receiving MMS w/ not only pictures, but also sound files, they said no?? Which seems completely retarded. My old Sony Ericsson C905 model from 2008 works that way, at least. Under the Messaging menu, you pick either SMS or MMS, and under MMS you can record a file and send as a MMS. Surely, that must work also on this one?? Else I'm f ............! This is the only phone I can imagine getting:/ Pls, could you confirm or deny this about sending/receiving MMS containing sound files? Big thanks in advance!
You are by far the best reviewer ever. No flashy details, very practical approach. You are actually telling useful things, not just explaining what is on the box! 🙏🏻
A key point is ALL KaiOS handphone reviewers do not clarify that if the potential user is dependent on specific apps which are not KaiOS compatible or an available strip down version that does not meet one’s requirements then one should not buy it. There is also a need to pre-test apps like Messenger, Twitter and WhatsApp text box and consider if it is too small for comfort. Other than that, I think it is a good tough handphone even though I base my experience on Nokia 8110 4G which use the same hardware.
Finally a review that addresses the buttons you use for texting. Nokia and Blackberry used to really dial in the functions per button for smooth one-handed texting. Also thanks for showing how the interface works, that is important.
Glad it helped. I couldn't get on with the phone so I switched to the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2, running on Android 7, and use it all the time as my only phone. Hi. Sorry I haven't replied before now, I've only just seen your question. I no longer have the phone so I can't double check, but I'm pretty certain you can set a pin code
Hi. Just to confirm - yes, you do have the option to set a 4 digit code that would have to be entered after opening the phone, and prior to having any access to all phone functions and data.
To be honnest i have a bit of a soft spot for "old" tech (im 18 btw, this definitely seems like my kind of phone) so when i saw something like the new Motorola razer and the later 5g variant i was so happy that flip phones were going to be useable without compromise, then i realised that ide need to sell a kidney to afford one and after a while i stumbled opon this, as this has peeked my intrest is there any chance someone could tell me is there an app store of any kind on the device or will i have to root it (assuming it runs on Android) or something like that to put apps on it, i ask this because i saw youtube was installed and it seems to be somewhat of a smartphone?
It doesn't run on Android. These new Nokia phones are not made by Nokia and run on an operating system of the manufacturer's own design. This phone runs on KaiOS and comes pre loaded with basic versions of UA-cam and WhatsApp. There is an app store as such, but it's even less populated than the windows store ever became.

I have purchased another 2720 Flip and this one does not let me write messages while on the phone. It won't let me navigate away from the call and simultaneously do other tasks.
Hi Mark, thanks for this review! I've been looking for the perfect 'dumb' phone with WhatsApp for ages now! I'm 34 and waste WAY too much time on my iPhone every day, so I think these phones are perfect for people like me who don't want all the distracting apps, yet still want to be able to keep in touch with friends and family who only use WhatsApp! However, I do have one question - does the predictive text remember words you commonly use (like an iPhone would), or does it only suggest words you find in the dictionary? For example, if texting is a bit of a pain using this phone and finding apostrophes slows you down, I might go back to text writing that we used in the 90s such as changing 'you're' to 'ur' - would it remember that and suggest it to me every time I tried to type it? Please can you also tell me how good Google Maps is? As that is something I would like to keep as a function. Thanks!
I couldn't find a way to remove any of the apps. You can hide UA-cam and WhatsApp from the easy access menu, but that seems like a rather pointless option when the majority of users probably want those two apps!

Hi. Thanks for the compliment. I no longer have this phone and never used it as a hotspot, so I can't give you a 1st hand account. Sorry I haven't replied to you before now, I somehow missed the notification. I managed 2 full days from the phone with heavy use and nearly 3 times that when I only used it for short calls and limited messaging. Regarding the calendar app, can this be silenced or put on vibrate only? My current Nokia doesn't allow this so calendar notifications can be very intrusive at times. Thanks.
No. This isn't an Android phone, so you can't go on to the Play Store and download apps. It's got basics versions of UA-cam and WhatsApp pre installed, so they work ok on it, but Spotify etc isn't available.
Hi mark, can you use the web browser to book an uber? I want to detox from social media but just need a feature phone which allows me to book an uber via the web browser site. Please let me know, thanks :)
@@afcpez91 I'm in the UK. I don't know if that's relevant. I've gone on ubereats.com on the 2720 Flip and on my 'regular' Samsung phone so I can compare the two, and the website appears to be functioning reasonably OK on the Flip. I have said elsewhere that using the Internet on the Flip is quite a chore, mainly because one has to navigate up and down, left and right, using the edges of the D-Pad, but having said that, I am able to enter my delivery address and then look for food or drink etc. As I said earlier, I've never used the service, but I assume that once you've set up your account and (presumably a main) delivery address, that referring back to this on subsequent orders would be less of a chore.
@@afcpez91 The Web browser is pretty basic - similar to the WAP Web experience in the mid 0s, before Android/iPhone. It's usable, but clunky and slow, even on WiFi.
@@afcpez91 An example of this in the context of the Ubereats site: the 'delivery address' box was hidden behind the 'finished' box, and I had to scroll down a little way to separate the two boxes, and then scroll back up to click on the 'delivery address' box and add my details. It works, but might drive you crazy in the process. The phone is great for calls and texts, and the WhatsApp and Facebook apps work pretty well, certainly well enough to be usable, but I'd maintain low expectations with the web browser. As KaiOs build is presence, more website owners and developers will, I assume, adapt their code to meet the KaiOs system.
Yes it does. In both the messaging app and WhatsApp you have the option of speaking your messages into the phone. It's pretty accurate too, and you can keep adding new sentences. Going back over the texts to check it says what you want it to say is easy in the messaging app because it has 4 way navigation and 3 lines of text on view, but not in what's app, this only has a single line of text with forward and backward navigation. It's still doable, but takes a while to scroll back to the start to check the message.
Hi. As usual the battery life is never as good as claimed and certainly depends on levels of usage, but I got a couple of days of 'heavy' use with playing around on it, listening to music, watching UA-cam clips, making calls, and doing the review. I wouldn't take it out on a 3rd day without a recharge. But if it was just sitting in the pocket or bag as a back up phone for the odd text or phone call I think you'd still be able to use it by the end of a week.
thanks a lot for the whatsapp tips! i'm getting the phone in a few days and i'm soaking all the tips around kaios and the phone itself before using it! :))
When typing a text message and you receive a phone call during typing the message will you lose your message you were writing at the time and have to start over?
I haven't had the phone for several months and I only used it for a few days before switching to the Folder 2, so I can't answer with certainty, but I think the message will hold in the RAM during the call, provided you go back to the message after the call.

It's not an Android phone so you can't access the Play Store and download Spotify. There is an app store but it's more basic and less populated than even the Windows store ever was. There is a pre-loaded, on-board music player which is half way decent, and there is a pre loaded basic UA-cam 'app'. That stops when you close the phone, however, and I'm not a subscriber so I don't know if, under that arrangement, it carries on playing when you close it.

The Folder 2 isn't exactly a detox kind of phone, but it's size makes doing too much social media activity something of a chore, so has the effect of making one less keen to do all of that nonsense, but rather, phone and speak to your friends instead! For the win, I say.

Yes it does, and it's a good volume. The tone isn't great so listening to music isn't much fun, but for watching little video clips et al it's more than adequate.

I think it feels quite robust, arguably tougher than the average smart phone. I didn't drop it or carry out any breakage tests so I can't comment really, but I didn't feel like I had to be really careful with it in the way I do when I have a smart phone out of a case.
Hello, thank you for the review! I didn't understand well, does WhatsApp only allow for "one-line texts"? Or can you write WhatsApp texts of any length?
You have unlimited lines of text that can be written, sent, or received, but only 1 line can be viewed at any one time, so one has to do a lot of scrolling.
It does have an app store of sorts but, rather like Windows phones, the app store is not massively populated. Developers appear to be taking KaiOs more seriously than Windows, so there are apps being added, little by little.

Ciao Marco. I do have a question. I have purchased the 2740 and apart from some pain in the neck items that you have mentioned I cannot for the life of me "download" MMs messages that I receive from time to time. It tells me in the incoming MMs that I can download it by a certain date by pressing "download" but where is this download option on the phone. Does it have that option ? Grazie.
I haven't tried it, no. I read that too which put me off ordering one and choosing this one instead. The Flip didn't switch off at any point while I was using it, and it's the same internally as the Tough.

I heard some rumours about this saying it isn't really durable like they say that it would break off from the hinge after like 3,4 months of using is it realy true?
This might seem like a stupid comment, so forgive me if it is, but do make sure you are putting the SIM in the right way round, face down. The door on top of the SIM should slide over the SIM and lock in place.
Finally. I was in Someone with the same problem. SIM card is not detected. And I don't know what to do. I've tried everything. I am going to blame the sim tray. The top flips up, drop the card in ( There really is no sliding because the top of the tray flips up).. SIM card goes in and the top drops down and locks. It's just horrible. The old sim tray design was so quick and easy. Now the SIM card won't connect
If you're initiation into mobile phones was at the time when most of them were still using the 3 x 4 keypad, you'll probably find using the Flip to be a pleasant experience.
Good useful review. I am disappointed with the calender on this phone where you cannot have an annual reminder of an event like a birthday. Also, if you want a reminder of an event say every two weeks, you cannot delete the event passed without deleting all future events. The old 2720 Nokia was much more usable for such. Maybe one can download a better calender.

I would expect so, yes, but unfortunately that's not predictable. It's up to the owners WhatsApp (as far as I know) to decide when they'll stop supporting previous operating systems. I'd say though that it's likely there'll be a few more years for WhatsApp and Messenger in this phone.

Excelent review, I am looking forward to collect all the nokia originals.
My thoughts aswell
Just hold volume button down, to reject call

Hi,
since the 3G network is being phased out, I'm desperate to find a non-smartphone that still is decent but works on 4G.
Thank you for the compliment. 🤗

Thanks!
Hi. Unfortunately I don't have this phone anymore so cannot answer either question with any certainty. Really sorry Kat.

Is it just me , or are you that person that I listen to in my school's ASL audios 😂

You could put a custom Android 4.1 or 4.4 rom on that Xperia Active.
It has voice to text capability? I never mastered t9
How’s the battery life on this ? With regular day use, does it hold up ?
It says standby use around 28 days.
Can the internal sd card be removed and replaced with a 16-32 gb card with recorded music to play back.
Yes, it has an sd card slot and yes, it will play music from the sd card.

It's been a long time since your video, are the buttons as sensitive as they were when you purchased it or they have to press hard now ?
Please sir I'm waiting for your response thank you very much.
The buttons are not hard to press at all, in fact that was possibly the best thing about the phone - the keypad. The buttons are a good size, and easy to use, even for someone like me with my sausage-shaped fingers!
However, I've switched to the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 now, running on Android 7, and use it all the time as my only phone.
It has none of the annoying foibles that the 2720 Flip has, plus, being on Android I can access all the usual apps from the Play Store.

@@markymarkgroovemaster i very much appreciate for the reply man. Thanx for the info you are filling us with.
You're very welcome.
Does it have a loudspeaker?
Thanks for the video
Yes it does, and it's a good volume. The tone isn't great so listening to music isn't much fun, but for watching little video clips et al it's more than adequate.
I was actually curious if it used apps like Spotify in addition to Google Maps. I honestly don't need a massive amount of apps, but I'd insist on at least a couple of key apps.
It's not running on Android so you can't download any apps, and the version of maps that is preloaded on the phone is basic.

Does this phone require data to function properly? I would just have unlimited talk and text. I have never paid for data on my phone. Can you give me an idea of what would work and what wouldn't?
You wouldn't need a data package to make calls or send text messages, but for everything else you'd need data or wifi.

Can I ask some questions here?
1. Can you open website link from WhatsApp? And "quote" function?
2. Can this phone install the App like: Line, FB Messenger, dictionary or any translation App. Included App Store?
Thanks!

How is the build quality? The Nokia 2720 fold broke so often.
What about additional apps, in case some necessary apps for example uber is required to use in this phone?
It does have an app store of sorts but, rather like Windows phones, the app store is not massively populated. Developers appear to be taking KaiOs more seriously than Windows, so there are apps being added, little by little.
thanks for the review! its perfect for young people to improve the mental health due to dropping social media :) im dumbing down too!
Bein' an Ole Geezer this is what I want. I spent my whole working career in tech so am over the crap. If anyone sends me a text I call them back and leave a voice response (not hard at all)! :)

Grazie.
You may need to set up MMS messaging. Check your carrier's website for further information.
Have you tested Nokia 800 Tough? I saw few people complaining about it suddenly turning itself off. I want to hear from you.
I haven't tried it, no. I read that too which put me off ordering one and choosing this one instead. The Flip didn't switch off at any point while I was using it, and it's the same internally as the Tough.
It's the same with the 2027 flip. Every few days its just shutting down for no reason.. :(
Hi Mark, could you please anwer my question? I am looking to switch this phone, just wanted to know if I can install mobile banking apps though google play store. Thank you
No. You can't access the Play Store. This isn't an Android phone.
Hello, did it actually lose whatsapp support? I was going to buy it tomorrow but I heard some say that kaiOS doesnt support whatsapp anymore.. is that true? please confirm
@@EfilWarlord hi. No idea, sorry, and I no longer have the phone, so I can't check for you.

No it doesn't. This isn't an Android phone, so you can't add apps like Spotify.
It's running a version of Kaios, I believe, and comes pre loaded with a scaled down version of UA-cam and WhatsApp.

Yes, the camera is awful.

TBH that's the 1st time I've heard this. Mine was a year old when I got it, and I had it for 6 months without this happening.
I'm getting the 800 for Christmas but if that dosnt work ima get this one

Is maps working ok?
Is it good the email app?

If I insert sim card...
Not detected...
It shows no sim card
Does it allow dual WhatsApp messages receiver?
Yes. It comes with a scaled down version of WhatsApp.
Im 34 and have been looking at this phone as well as the other Nokia 4G phones.
I think the apps store is too basic for anything so useful.

Voice messaging works in WhatsApp then?
Er...I think you can, yes, but TBH I'm not 100% sure. I haven't had the phone for quite some time now. Watching the video again however, one can see the word 'voice' in the middle at the bottom of the screen, which I believe is the link to making a voice message.

I heard somewhere that you don't get a notification when you get a whatsapp message? Is this still true?
That depends in the settings, which can be changed so that you don't receive notifications. Out of the box it is set to give you notifications for WhatsApp, texts, emails, and voice calls. You can introduce your own ringtones and notification tones.

Will WhatsApp work in 2023 in these phone afte all the updates?
I would expect so, yes, but unfortunately that's not predictable. It's up to the owners WhatsApp (as far as I know) to decide when they'll stop supporting previous operating systems. I'd say though that it's likely there'll be a few more years for WhatsApp and Messenger in this phone.
