Boss MT-2w Waza Craft: www.pmtonline....
The classic Boss MT-2 distortion pedal has been a favourite for metal guitarists for over 25 years now, and the new MT-2w, the latest addition to Boss's Waza Craft range continues the evolution of the Metal Zone pedal.
Designed and built in Japan by Boss's top engineers, the MT2w utilises the highest quality components in it's all analog, dual gain circuit, a premium quality bypass buffer to ensure crystal clear clean tones when the pedal's switched off, and the addition of 2 switchable voicing modes, Standard and Custom.
Take a quick listen to the difference between the two pedals, let us know what you think in the comments below, and try this comparison out for yourself at your local Professional Music Technology store...

The Waza sounds a bit more measured and manageable than the original, at the cost of sounding a bit muted (to my ears.)
What I'm trying to say is that when I stomp the Metal Zone, I'm not looking for subtlety 🤘🖤😉
Thanks for an informative and comprehensive review! 😊
Like most kids in the 90's, this pedal got me metallica tones on my peavey rage...Now the kids have a million options to sound cool lol.
I've had a MT2 for 10 years. Didn't really hear a ( favorable ) difference.
Agreed. Any difference i heard i preferred the original.
LOL, I know most of the comments are a few years old, but I wonder how the Waza would have sounded against the original, if it was going into the front of the amp? If people describe the WAZA as sounding muted (or muffled), maybe it would sound "less fizzy", going strait into the front of an amp. Just a thought (years late to the party).
I listened at about 3:40 and easily like the MT-2 better
Play thrash and been using the original mt-2 since it came out. To me the original is king!!
Don't see the need to get the new one at double the price 🤷🏻♂️. I find the Waza sounds muted which is a letdown ...I was really hoping for better
Been using the original mt-2 since it came out, boost it with a boss super overdrive and cant be beat!! Original kicks ass to this day..
Literally what I'm about to do. Any recommendations on knob settings for both my SD1 and MT-2W? :) going to be played on an Orange amp.
I have this exact setup, going into the FX loop. Have ordered waza version to try out.
@@JP-ry9ob What are you're findings?
I'd prefer choose an original one
Back down the treble and back down the drive (a little bit), then boost the 500/650 hz and low end (a little bit) ::: would they still sound different ?
Funny how the original sounds better.
Lol, agree. Original sounds more natural and open, more metal, while Waza somehow boomy. If I've ever owned the original, and then, not having it to compare directly, bought the new one, I would've thought that re-newed version is broken😂
Original MT2 for me. The Waza is too compressed imo, it tries to sound like a cab sim.
Mines about 20 years old and I still use it every day in my rig. Waza sounds worse!!
Is there a difference in the noise when not playing and the pedals are on? Is the Waza quiet or does it make noise?
I have a custom modded MT-2 that I had Chad Matthews put together for me which included "Some" but not "All" parts and mods from Monte Allums, that totally rocks!
It now has much improved "HiFi" performance via, better signal to noise ratio, and a more creamy sound, but STILL retains the
"Take No Prisoners Tone"
of the Original MT2.
My 1st Monte Allums MT2 had ALL of the Monte Allums mods, which completely CASTRATED the MT2.
Oh yeah, and I also omitted the "Bright Blue" from "Original Red" Led light "Swap-Out" the 2nd time around too, because of the
"Deer In The Headlights" effect whenever you engaged the pedal.
I would say that if you wanted an "Improved" DS-1, the "Complete" Monte Allums mod,
[ Minus the Led Swap-Out ],
would be an AWESOME way to go, because you would get the awesome EQ abilities of the MT2 coupled with a higher quality sound, in a pedal that "Tone Wise" is more like a "DS-1".
A "DS-1" on STEROIDS, or a "Super DS-1"!
But that was not what "I" wanted for my MT2, I have a Guyatone TD-1 when I want to go for a more vintage Drive tone.
The waza sounds more modern where as the original has more buzz saw tone to it
Great demo!
From this I would still choose the mt 2 original. Seems like the waza chokes it out a bit but could be wrong. Ive used the original for years and just bought the waza. Haven't received it yet so we shall see. Great video.
Any feedback on original vs waza?
@@matijabo waza is a bit brighter/tighter. Loved it for a while but find myself back with the original most of the time 😂
@@kevinerickson84so ORIGINAL it is... tnx!
in order to make waza Craft from stock MT2, it is necessary to remove the c35 capacitor. It is all!
Is this the "capacitor" that makes the funny(funky) mid boost go away? I have A/B monitored MT2 vs. BOSS GT-100 simulation. GT-100 is better, because it does not have that ugly mid hump...
Is there a video for doing that?
original one MT-2
Boss mt2 better to me
Great shootout, thanks
its not a preamp pedal.
2:54 when you say "go into the return of an effects loop " what exactly is meant by that? i want to make it sound as good as possible
If you plug guitar into the pedal then plug the pedal into the return of the fx loop you bypass the preamp stage of the amplifier.
You do not plug anything into the normal input.
@@drumnotdrum9262 i still don't know what "return of the fx loop " means
Ahh got you! On the back of some amps, you have a send (out) and return (in) which is the in/out for an effects loop. Normally it allows you to insert pedal/rack effects after the pre amp stage of your amp.
Not all amps have them.
They don’t all work exactly the same but the send/return aspect is the same in any case.
@@drumnotdrum9262 ah i don't have that
@@cadenosborne7916 don’t worry about it. I wouldn’t rush out for new gear because of this. Some people run everything in the front (normal input(s) and prefer it this way.
Play your gear and see.
Overdrive >distortion >Eq >amp.
That will get you a ton of sounds.
(If you’re still very much a learner, Chuck in a simple looper and a tuner you’ll be golden, guitar until your fingers fall off!)
You’ll probably want a reverb or delay before you want a new amp.
Awesome demo!
George ROCKS!!!!
Waza lost its brilliance with triple the price
🤣🤣 So Nothing beats the classic 🤣🤣
As for me, the original MT2 sounds much better.
it's boring these blurs between each image and the video is too long
I personally prefer the original.
Bes t results if used with a 7 band eq pedal
I think one of his strings is out of tune
Protest the hero riffs ❤
Hi Guys!!!
in your site is this used equipment
Bravo! Shred Maquina!
Such a cool demo nice one
I'll be getting the original.
The Waza Craft sucks compared to the original MT-2. *shrugs*
So... It's another pedal that lives and dies by understanding what parametric mids are and setting them wisely. Got it.
(I hear a slight difference, but it sounds like the waza is just a little less harsh, but can still sound great or like crap for the same reason)
Thanks thoguh, it's good to know. I might try a waza and see whether I can see a real difference. That and my MT-2 might be gone so if I catch a good used price it will be an easy sell.
MT-2 👍 MT-2w👎
Same shit
Are 7 and 8 string guitars made more for lead guitar, or can it be used for rhythm guitar?
6+ stringed guitars are not spacifically ment more for lead guitar but more just to have a lower standard tuning
