      This. Getting really familiar with those concentric mid eq pots and the concentric hi and lo eq pots is the absolute key to this pedal. And don't be afraid to turn the knobs counterclockwise!
      The problem is that most guitarists are like Derek Zoolander. They can't turn left.

    The Metal Zone seems like it’s basically a DS-1 with a built-in amp modeler & equalizer, and the WC sounds like a capacitor circuit filtering out certain highs & high mids, which would explain the lowered noise levels.

  • @pedrocucaracha

    The "Standard" versus "Custom" is a component bypass. I did that on my Metal Zone, and I got the same effect: Moving the switch lowers the high end. It's cool, took a little bit, and saved me some money, haha!! It's not an original idea. If you are handy with a soldering iron and a drill, you can give it a try.

    The Custom mode seemed to work better in front of the amp rather than in the fx loop return on CSguitars vid.

  • @SiliconBassist
    @SiliconBassist Рік тому +1

    I particularly like the custom mode on bass in combination with a LS-2 mixing some dry signal back in, and also on synthesizers also with an LS-2 mixing in dry signal. I find the standard mode most useful with guitar, personally.
    Incidentally, I actually preferred the original Metal Zone on certain examples. The new one indeed has more clarity but that also kinda brings it slightly out of the original territory of the original that I like. The somewhat less clear sound is kinda distinctive in a way that I enjoy. However, there are also examples where I preferred the standard mode on the new one to the original. I’m glad I have the Waza Craft one, but I can still see why someone might prefer the original.

    The only issue with using the same settings is the variable in potentiometer ratings like thebtube screamers the pots can very so 500k resistance pot can range i think from 448k-512k which can make one seem darker or like it has less gain. The variables make it not quite the same pedal.

    I'm many years late to this video. I have the MT-2. I think its a great pedal but I never really liked it as a stand alone drive. Its true potential for me was unlocked when I turned down its gain to almost nothing and then ran a JHS Bonsai into the front end of it with the Bonsai dancing around 3/4 gain. Amazing. Running a TS into the front end of this thing really wakes it up and balances out the high end screech. Like butter.

    My personal comment on testing my old BOSS Metal Zone MT-2 from the 90s against its successor BOSS Metal Zone MT-2W Waza Craft:
    For distortion of my guitar(s) I use all those years my old BOSS Metal Zone MT-2, yes the one model with a bad reputation. As a new successor BOSS offers the MT-2W, the Waza Craft version, which can be set to the 'old' MT-2 mode by a switch. As some people claim it's a nice pedal reducing unwanted noise BUT: it cuts off bass frequencies from a certain point and lacks of some vehemence, in other words it sounds a bit less powerful when blasting your face with some metal tunes. So for me as a lead guitarist playing bassy 80's driven metal, it was a bit dissapointing. Seems like someone of the pedal creators wanted to prevent a guitar's low bass frequencies to disturb bass players and drummers for the sake of hearing each instrument better and clearer. This intention might be chivalrous at first glance, but that way it cuts some control from a guitar player and what if the messier more bassy sound is wanted, this is not acceptable in the end.
    I sent the pedal back still using my old one.

    The best sound I ever mustered out of Pod Farm 2 was the a tube screamer clone into a metalzone clone through a bypassed amp into a cab. I'm not even sure it was even supposed to be done, but it worked better than all the other setups I tried... A few weeks ago Ola did basically the same but with real gear.

    Both pedals have buffered bypass.So when we hear the waza after it there is the buffer of the bypased classic m.zone and the exact opposite when we hear the classic m.zone.Use a switcher for a test like this unless the pedals have true bypass!

    What is different is the shape of the curve of the mid freq sweep. So in standard it is the classic metal zone curve. In custom is it more of a spike. So when you sweep the mid freq its only affecting a very narrow Hz band. This will allow more control, predictability and tightness. So really you wouldn't see much of the 'modern' sound til you start tweaking those mid nobs.
