A while back we bought the name brand organic spices that come in the little fancy glass bottles. Everyone at home was saying that the food tasted much better with them. Since then have I have just been buying the non organic Great Value brand and refilling the bottles nobody has even noticed.
I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you heard it wrong. I read this before I heard her say it so I've been waiting but I think she was saying that she'd rather have orange juice than oat milk
This. AND, people think popular brands are more "reliable" or better than generic because it is popular, so psychologically, people think they popular brands "know what they are doing" more
I used to work in a grocery store. We were told that some of the store brands that they came from the same manufacturing companies like Kelloggs. I put the same challenge to my brother. Where he saved over $100 as we used his same grocery list but we shopped at one of the discount stores. Don't be fool by the fancy packaging!
I’ll admit, there was a treat I used to buy but when that went up to over $5, I switched to the generic brand. Then the generic price rose to $5 so I stopped buying it altogether. I think this inflation is way to starve people to death.
As a rule, I generally buy the store brand or generic brand items. It has helped us save quite a bit in the last decade! Even when we can afford name-brand items, we rarely buy them since the store brands are just as good or better.
At least they didn’t get Scott TP. My husband used to get that and I really had to emphasize the need for dual ply in regards to feminine sanitary products. I won eventually.
Doesn't matter if TP cost less if you have to use more! Husband tried to 'save' money by buying 1 ply and it backfired big time! We ended going thru 3 times as much so we went back to what we were using. I will try store brands and if I like them, I will continue to purchase them. Another tip if you heavily winch at the cost of fresh produce is to buy frozen.
A ton of the store brand stuff is the same. Legitimately. I bought the store brand Claritin allergy meds which was $6 cheaper and had the EXACT same ingredients.
one note about the toilet part, Angel Soft is not actually a generic brand. there actually a direct competitor to Charmin. they just use slightly different materials to achieve the softness it gets, but Charmin has angel soft like toilet paper as well, but they started making some after Angel Soft made headlines. still Charmin has more than one type of paper they use, some people aren't fans of it.
I do like black coffee, but I get mine from a local vendor and it's fantastic and I'm truly spoiled on getting fresh roasted beans. I tried black Peets before and I'm really confused as to why people praise that one so much, it's like Ken said "shoe horn" 😂😂
Do more of these! In my experience, some off brand products are better than well-known products, not just on food, but also things like memory cards, sports equipment, etc. The reason a lot of these well-known products are expensive isn't because of quality, but because of marketing.
Quite a few years ago I didn't have cream for my coffee. Since then I always drink black coffee...........I love it! Dutch Bros and McDonald's coffee...............yeah!
I do want the lower price but am concerned about it being organic. My doctors know I'm healthy. I'm 76 and work a job and hike a lot, so I feel organic may not be the worst way to go, as some say. I have not bought generic in a long time but might try in some things. But, the costs are getting to me for sure. Very interesting
I wish a "past" friend of mine was watching this. I was paying all her bills for about 5 months. If I brought her a generic product of anything - she'd throw it away and expected me to buy the name brand. Only Pillsbury flour for her, Yuban coffee, Charmin tp, lays potato chips, etc.
Many generic brand products are the same as name brand. They are from the same factory and just packaged with a different label. Walmart and even Trader Jos does this, for example.
Oat milk is incredible. I love the taste. Especially in coffee. Some of us can’t and should not have dairy. It makes us very sick. It’s not only about being healthy. It about digestion. 😂
Not all store brands are the same and we don't have Publix so I can't speak to that. We have Walmart, Schnucks and Dierbergs (pretty local) and their store brands are really hit or miss, most of the times misses.
I switched to most store brand items long ago to save money. Then covid and inflation happened and everyone around did the same now its so hard to find store brand in stock! And inflation hit store brands too, some have gone up $2-$3 here in Canada.
I'm all about that Angel Soft life. Great Value makes really good corn chips and soy milk. The Dollar Tree version of Girl Scout Thin Mints is SO good. I really don't have any HAVE to have name brands. It's just not that deep for me.
hate to be that guy, but when it comes to chips, you cant really test off of just one. sometimes I'll buy the generic, a few chips will be good, but for some reason like the fifth or sixth chip will be disgusting, like it will be stale or have some god-awful texture inexplicably.
In Canada there is a big difference between the name brand cereal and the generic brand in cereal. Sometimes the name brand is cheaper than the generic brand. Then again we have different name brands for cereal instead of just one. For cereal I buy the name brand cereal, whether it is the name brand “post”, “General Mills”, or “Kellogg’s”
How muck is that fake milk? Like $5 for a quart. When whole milk is like $5. Not all generic is the same. Every time I uses generic TP, it clogs my toilet most times.
Haha I knew this was about to be good 😅 Do this again!! Lol. Y'all could actually go a way lot lower by getting the Walmart tissue and getting coffee and cereal at Aldi's. 💜💜
I drink black coffee, Ken. If my wife brings home a coffee or something, it is usually flavored and I might have a sip, but my morning breakfast always has black coffee. Good segment.
Generic ibuprofen is the same as Advil only without the sugar coating, TP paper towels and tissues are just as good, and generic cereal can be hit or miss. Generic Cheerios and Capn Crunch Crunch berries are the same as the real one, other brands like Fruity Pebbles aren't even close. Also I go with generic rice and noodles too.
There are a lot of store brands I like better, there are a lot of brand names I like better, and some both are fine. It is very dependent on the product.
If you're so concerned about health then surely you have an elite VO2 max and high grip strength right? If not then why bother bickering about nutrition?
It took me too Long to try and then switch to store brand. Funny, I thought I was "treating" myself to buy a name brand canned vegetable...and the taste, texture, and consistency was Exactly the same. As for TP...that's a toughie. Was always a Charmin user. Have tried Scott 1000 and Angel Soft too. Angel soft usage wise is acceptable- soft and a decent thickness... but it leaves dingle berries 😂. So No.
A while back we bought the name brand organic spices that come in the little fancy glass bottles. Everyone at home was saying that the food tasted much better with them. Since then have I have just been buying the non organic Great Value brand and refilling the bottles nobody has even noticed.
“I put orange juice in my cereal”, just made me look at Jade all the way different. 😮
I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure you heard it wrong. I read this before I heard her say it so I've been waiting but I think she was saying that she'd rather have orange juice than oat milk
She said it. 4:25
A lot of generic brands are made on the same production line as the name brands , you just pay more for the marketing etc .
This. I am glad that they pointed this out in the video.
It’s a big diff in taste and quality unless it’s the store brand with certain items
This. AND, people think popular brands are more "reliable" or better than generic because it is popular, so psychologically, people think they popular brands "know what they are doing" more

I been telling people this. Sane company slap with different labels.
It's insane how a bag of chips like Lays or Ruffles cost $5-6 a standard bag. These are snacks...snacks!
Yep, I was just telling my husband that the snack aisle items are becoming luxury items 🤣🤣
I drove a truck for 16 years.
I would pick up the same product in store brand and brand name at the same plant.
For all the new parents out there: Huggies brand makes Costco’s Kirkland brand of diapers and they are significantly cheaper!
Love this thank you!
ALDI is also good!
But that membership fee though
This is the most entertaining I’ve ever seen Ken. Didn’t realize he could be funny. Maybe Jade brings out the best in her cohosts:)
Ken's been working on being more entertaining but no one knows it since no one watches his show.
Well Jade is the worst, so anybody next to her instantly comes off better.
Ken and George is my favorite combo actually (when Dave’s not available)
I’ll admit, there was a treat I used to buy but when that went up to over $5, I switched to the generic brand. Then the generic price rose to $5 so I stopped buying it altogether. I think this inflation is way to starve people to death.

Former coffee roaster here. To improve bad coffee add a few grains of salt. Works wonders
When I was a kid I didn’t understand, now I do sorry mom & dad 🤣
At least they didn’t get Scott TP. My husband used to get that and I really had to emphasize the need for dual ply in regards to feminine sanitary products. I won eventually.
😂 That’s the funniest episode I’ve seen so far. I laughed my butt off about the toilet paper…no pun intended.

In California, the sale price of chips is 4.50 each now. Non-sale prices goes up to 7.99 a bag.
Horrific news about putting orange juice on cereal 😮
i fully agree with ken here. black coffee = gross, no oatmilk, and the softer the tp the better!
I have found that the sugar content is much higher in generic foods, especially in kids food like cereal.
We did this in high school and shocker! Store brand was better tasting for many of us!
I like this show combo, Jade & Ken 😂
Often store brands taste good, just different. If you are them for a month, you'd get accustomed to the taste.
A ton of the store brand stuff is the same. Legitimately. I bought the store brand Claritin allergy meds which was $6 cheaper and had the EXACT same ingredients.
We have small discount grocery stores throughout our area with bulk foods . Many great deals as well as fresh produce in season.
Same thing applies to CVS/Walgreens vs. named brands medicine 💊.

Kroger/Dillons version of honey bunches of oats and frosted shredded wheat are wonderful! $2 vs. $6 per box.
I'm also team Angel soft. The "nice" toilet papers have a dust to them.
I'm Kirkland all the way!
If you don't clean your bathroom, even the cheap TP will have a dust to it.

Eww ketchup
I haven't found too many store brands that aren't good. I'm going with the store brands!!
