ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Owl egg incubation
Gylfie needs all her energy to keep her eggs warm as the chicks inside develop. She sits on them 24 hours a day for nearly a month, using her body heat to keep the eggs at a medium 34C.
Male barn owl hunts
And as she does so , Finn keeps her sustained with a steady supply of food. He spends his days catching small rodents, like shrews, and delivers three or four meals a day,
Owl teamwork
Both owls are working hard in their respective roles, but there's always time for affection - and Finn continues to mate with Gylfie often, even though he’s not fertilising more eggs.
Finn fusses with eggs
But this male barn owl is also utterly besotted by the prospect of chicks on the way and when Gylfie leaves the nest briefly, he hears a chick cheep from inside its shell. He responds by moving the egg away from the others and when Gylfie returns she seems displeased with the arrangement - she needs to keep all four eggs warm at once!
First hatch
The first chick takes over an hour to fully emerge and when it does it is bald and blind… it’s incredible to think in two months this chick will be ready to fly.
First feed
Already it knows how to swallow food and Gylfie tears up a meal into bite sized morsels and then tucks it under her feathers for warmth.
Dad meets owlet
A few hours later, Finn sees the chick for the first time and is instantly attentive. Later, once the clutch has hatched, this male owl can't contain his curiousity and the cameras capture him gazing intently at his owlets as they lie, snugly underneath Gylfie.
Second egg fails
Barn owls lay every two/three days and when a second chick does not appear for another six days, taking almost all day to emerge from its shell, it is clear one egg has failed. Gylfie soon removes the egg from underneath her.
Final chick hatches
Three days later, Gylfie stands to reveal a pip in the last egg. And soon, the third and final chick has hatched. Now these owl parents must work even harder to keep these tiny owlets warm and fed..
Next time...
In the next film, when disaster strikes, how will Gylfie get on as a single parent?

Gylfie: Finn what is this?
Finn: I just did some rearranging with the eggs, impressed?
Gylfie:………..Please go back out and get food.
and then she was like “DUDE UR STEPPING ON THE EGGS
Finn became a condidate for the award "Best Barn owl dad"
Fin moving one egg to the side was quite funny😂
Humans could certainly learn a lot from these beautiful, faithful animals.
Birds know more about caring, compassion, kindness, protecting their family, and taking good care of the planet than the human race will ever be 😢
yeah like being able to hunt mice
Darling Finn, you are missed, you were a wonderful and majestic owl, and a tireless provider for your brood. 🥺
He's gone?!
@@WobblesandBean Sadly yes. Robert said he found him dead in a lake. Probably drowned.
@@VivianaSilverback Oh, no. :(

Oh Finn. Sweet dedicated Finn.

Finn is so curious about the eggs and chicks. He's really a devoted dad. Miss him a lot.
They aren’t called chicks they are called owlets!

OK, maybe this is a dumb question, but can anyone tell me how she knew which egg was the 2nd one laid and therefore the correct one to destroy?? It's not like they were numbered or anything! I don't get it!
I started feeding the squirrels outside my condo some crushed peanuts. Suddenly I'm feeding all the birds in the neighborhood. And they wait for me . 8am and 5pm. They definitely have an internal clock
Big mistake if you wanna sleep late!
@@nikobellic570 You know something, they are very quiet. There are sparrows doves small black birds like baby crows bluejays of course. And they all just eat for a few minutes, quietly. Then take off.
I've apparently begun a relationship with a young momma deer & her 3 babies lol. Momma deer was apparently the culprit who'd drain my low hanging bird feeders every night. So, one night as I was covering them, she came walking slowly up to me at my bird feeders. I saw her babies not far off in the shadows. I was stunned as Momma deer just stared at me, so I took the cover off one of the feeders, slowly walked a few feet away & watched Momma deer head butt my bird feeders so her babies could eat the seed that fell to the ground! The next day while I was in my yard, my neighbor across the street pointed behind me & when I turned around Momma deer & her 3 babies were following me! So, I decided to pour some seed into a saucer & put it on the ground for Momma & her babies to easily enjoy. Now, I can call out to Momma & her babies from my porch & they'll come running out of the woods to share their saucer of seed with the squirrels, chipmunks, crows (& small birdies who apparently are now too lazy to feed at my birdfeeders lol).
@@kennypool
My husband feeds the squirrels where we live. We leave them out on our porch. They are really quiet and don't leave shells everywhere.
It's fun to watch them chase each other and climb the trees near us.
Same, one day i threw breadcrumbs at the rooftop of my house for birds to feed, then the next day same time they were there again but in larger numbers, then the next day they were even more of them lol
I love how tender they are with each other and with the chicks ❤
They’re so adorable ♥️♥️
😮❤

I adore the footage of Finn out hunting, and rearranging the eggs! Thanks to Robert and the whole crew for putting this video together and sharing
Oh Fin, we miss your sweet devotion to your mate and owlets and those funny antics with Gylfie every chance you got. ;-)
Seeing Finn again makes me happy. 🥲🥲🥲
We all miss him...
I remember what happened to him such a tragedy 😞
I miss Finn. He was such a good Dad. Constantly bringing Gylfiefood.
He was such a character! We all miss him
Makes me sad, he was lovely 🌹
It's so refreshing to watch these videos; getting a tiny glimpse of the purity and magnificence of nature. So many things on social media nowadays are either fraudulent, utter nonsense, or downright dangerous. Robert's channel is a rare treasure.
Well said.

I wonder if Dryer knows just how big those shoes are he is left to fill. Finn was a household favourite here. He lives on in our hearts and films like this are wonderful to see. Not sure if I can watch the next installment. Thank you to Robert & The Team for their dedication to our wonderful birds ❤

What happy memory of Gylfie and Finn - he was so affection and such an excellent provider! Love the video. The music, narration, and hearing the chicks bring the viewer right into Gylfie and Finn's nest. Awesome
.
Beautiful footage of seeing Finn flying, and hunting , that’s something you don’t get to witness via the live cams. If he couldn’t look more beautiful 😍, really miss this little guy he was one of a kind, his personality, antics and demeanour set him way apart from all the rest. To me he’ll always be that little barnie that took a piece of my heart with him when he crossed that bridge.
This is the first time that I have been able to watch a Finn video since he passed.
Lets all put our hands together and pray to all the owl gods that Finns soul will rest in happines and owl peace
Finn might be gone but I hope we hear about how his foster brother is taking care of his girl now.
We are watching and waiting to see if we get eggs this year.
What a wonderful tribute and memorial for dear Finn. 2:41 he was a stunning owl.

Seriously these birds make for the most hardworking dads on earth
Ever heard of penguin dads?
Those precious owls with their round white faces! So beautiful and majestic, so calm and sweet together that it’s hard to envision their incredible hunting prowess. Nature truly is amazing.
Your films are my favorite way to end the day. Listening to your melodic voice, I can cast off the strife of the outside world and just relax. I feel humbled by the spectacular scenery and intimate glances you provide into the lives of birds and other wildlife.
I’m amazed by the depth of your knowledge and commitment to your craft and am truly grateful for the privilege of watching your films.

As everybody here, we miss Finn a lot. He was a wonderful partner, affectionate, great dad, funny and a so beautiful owl who loved his Gylfie so much... 😥
Missing dear Finn. Thank you for this video, Robert. He sure was a character. A great mate, dad and provider. ✨💖✨
Fascinating, to see the paternal and maternal instincts. Barn Owls are so beautiful. Thank you 🙂
Finn was such a sweet owl when it came to eggs, even when he was visiting nests and came across the eggs of other birds he was curious but gentle, never bothering them.

Finn, you are an amazing provider!! and Gylfie, you are a devoted mom! Love the beautiful footage!
In such a stress- filled world, you bring the beauty of nature at its best! Very calming and peaceful. Thank you!❤
The production, narration, music, etc. of Robert's videos are absolutely incredible! The viewer becomes so invested in the lives & relationships of these owls. Kudos to Robert & his amazing team! Better than any wildlife educational movies/videos that I've ever seen!
Finn was the best dad🥺😭
I literally gasped and said "No!" out loud at the end. :(
They are so beautiful these two...
Some of the best fathers and spouses on planet earth are the feathered fathers and husbands. Mammal fathers could learn a lot about relationships and what it means to be a dude from the avian kingdom. Loved this -- thank you.

Thank you robert for showing us again some stunning footage of finn and gylfie
Saw my first Barn Owl, while working at Everglades National Park, my section used to be open 24/7, I had midnight to 8AM shift. Looked out of the main window. Saw the owl on top of the other building, owl was looking the other way. Owl turned it’s head all the way around, I saw it’s face, Barn Owl! Awesome sight. ❤
Such a lovely film. It’s so nice to see the Dad paying attention too,and how fond he is of his partner. We have not seen this with the others. It’s sad as they had such a special bond.Thank you for sharing ..Love n Light 🥰
Is was strange to see the dad's attention, as in most streams I've seen the dads, other than their role as providers, seemed relatively indifferent to the presence of the eggs or owlets.
Finn ❤️🥺😢
Oh Finn Finn Finegan ... 😍 You were a one of a kind Owl partner & dad. 🥰 Gylfie sure is missing your tender loving companionship - Dryer seems to be less enthusiastic about starting a family 🤨🤔
I absolutely adore owls. They’re adorable, beautiful, smart, and fierce all at once, and they help keep the rodent population under control. This is one of my favorite channels to watch owl videos. The way Robert gives each individual animal a name and follows and narrates their daily lives like he’s telling a story about the animals makes me feel like I’m watching a live action Redwall series or something. ❤️
