ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Barn owl chicks grow
This film follows the story of barn owlets Nutmeg & Thyme as they grow up in my Elm Stump nest and reveals a remarkable bond between these sibling owl chicks.
Nutmeg becomes carer
By one month old, barn owls Gylfie & Finn begin to leave their alone in the nest, only visiting to feed them. The two chicks now huddle together for warmth, and then my cameras reveal something unusual - Nutmeg, the older owlet by three days, takes on the role of feeding her younger brother.
Helping to feed & groom Thyme
As the barn owl chicks grow and develop, the bond between the siblings grows stronger and my cameras capture endearing footage of Nutmeg grooming Thyme and trying to encourage him to join her as she discovers the entrance to the nest and sees the world outside.
And Thyme turns protector
Then one day when a pigeon ventures into the nest, their roles are reversed and the younger owlet, Thyme, spreads his wings out wide and screeches to protect his sister Nutmeg.
Barn owls first flights
This extraordinary bond continues as the eldest Nutmeg learns to fly and then hops about the entrance to the nest trying to encourage her brother to join her.

Thyme guarded Nutmeg with his life when that wood pidgeon broke in. Valiant Thyme and the sweet helpful Nutmeg .
☺️Yes, that was so brave of him!! Like God🕊️ told Joshua, to be strong and courageous, His Lord will be with him!! God🕊️sees high and very low, on all His creatures, even these babies,🦉💞🦉!! I was so sad when he was probably attacked by the fox, but I know Thyme is in Heaven🌈 flying around with the angels🤍 above, resting on our Lord's❣️ shoulder at times!! So bittersweet!!💕
@@andreabelinda1355 Wow! You're a full-on religion cultist, aren't you?
I didn't expect that ending💀Poor Thyme.
🦉😭
Sad! 😢

4:35 - Seeing thyme protecting his older sister after a month of her looking after him. So beautiful
Yes 👍 amazing to see
@@RobertEFuller I felt very attached to Thyme after that moment and shed a tear seeing their bond. Being an older sister to younger brothers who are in their late teens now, it moves me to realise that they too would protect me.
Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful film for us all and helping this wonderful species to thrive. You're truly amazing!
Thyme when he's hungry: I am tiny baby bird, please protect me big sister
Thyme when he thinks his sister is threatened: cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
@@RobertEFuller Everytime one of your birds have chicks, I feel like I am one of the chicks, thanks you really helped me with my tough life, every bird depends on people, it is our job to take care of them not nature because if we don’t take care of birds, does love matter now? Which is why it is our responsibillity to take care of them
Awesome
I didn’t expect that ending to such a beautiful and heartwarming story about the family, but mostly about the sibling love. Thyme was a wonderful brother and would have made a fantastic father, just like his was.
So sad
Seeing Thyme perish on his first flight reminded me why I should never leave my room.
But you could also flourish like Nutmeg.. so alas you’ll never know unless you try
Twenty food drops each night. Finn is clearly a great successor to Barney.
Yes Fin had a shaky start but he go the hang of things
Love how they bob and wave their heads around.
For those who don’t know, thyme was struck by the electric pylon transformer and the fox got to him. Robert didn’t know until after the video was made.
Thank you that is right. The good news is that the electricity transformer has now been replaced so hopefully this sort of thing wont happen again - at least here.
@@RobertEFuller such a sad thing to happen. The best thing to do was prevent it from happening again. Love your channel, can’t wait to see more owlets growing up ❤️
I love how intensely Nutmeg bobs her head once she sees the outside world
"LOOK AT ALL THIS STUFF HELL YEAAA"
They are absolutely gorgeous, 🦉💖🦉😍 but big tears at the end for Thyme.😥Poor little one!
A great video as always.🙏🙏
I am sure the Fox took it.. Poor Thyme indeed. Nutmeg took great care of him..
NOOOOO
I feel bad for Thyme I don't wanna know if he's dead He's so young to die! 😭
Oh my god, Thyme... I have tears in my eyes. He wanted so much to go outside and be with his sister.. they won't be together anymore..
RIP Thyme. He was such a brave little owlette. It's a tough life for a young owl. Nature can be cruel at times. But I believe Thyme didn't go down without a fight. I hope we get to see Nutmeg start her own family real soon.
Thyme is a trooper with the best big sis nutmeg taking care of him. I like to believe he faked his own death and met a wondering swan to go on adventures with. 🥰
This makes me feel so much better ♥️
@@dewilew2137 🥰 did you hear! Thyme and swan met some penguins and went on an adventure to New Zealand. I think they have a mission to regrow native forests there, then help the kakapo get back in their feet! 🥳🐥♥️ thyme and swan! Saves the kakapo!
Thyme 🥹🥺😭 so so gutted for him after finally mustering the nerve for his first flight 🤦🏻♀️ [ugly sobbing in the corner]
Rest in piece Thyme. At least his bond with his sister was never severed
Barn owls are just beautiful birds, live how these two took care of each other, BUT THAT ENDING THOUGH IS SAD
What a story! Genuine cooperation, devotion & affection between sibling birds of prey... So often birds like this are (falsely) portrayed as just heartless predators who view even their own family members as nothing more than competitors.
Sad how things turned out for Thyme, but I can't help but suspect Nutmeg would have done all she could to save him if she'd been there.
Thanks for this wonderful video from the Elm family. Even if tears well up my eyes. But the fox too has to live, like everyone here, and the day-old chicks, rats and mice only have one life. I'm happy that Nutmeg can still be seen on the feeding post. The injury to her eye has also healed.
I had forgotten the pigeon's visit, although it was funny. It's nice that she is in the video. I am happy about this video and would like to say thanks to you REF and the team for the much work that you have done. I wish everyone a happy midwinter festival as well.
Thanks Dagmar for all your help this year glad you liked the video
@@RobertEFuller Thank you REF. It's been an honor and a pleasure for me. Unfortunately I was sick a lot this year and couldn't mod as much as I would have liked.
@@dagmarkunzel5406 I hope you will feel better soon 🙂
@@onababona6101 Thank you and happy Midwinter Festival.

More than twenty food deliveries each night? That is impressive. I didn't think there were enough mice, voles, or other critters in their territory to keep up such a rate.
How quickly does the prey replenish each year? Do the Owls and Kestrels decimate the rodent population each year, or do they have only a mild impact on their numbers?
Learn basic ecology lol
The less prey
The less predator
The more prey
The more predator
The less prey
Etc.
There was also the story when Nutmeg after fledging went after Gylfie while she was back at the nest. Gylfie tought her a lesson and expelled her from the nest. Nutmeg would not return for a day.
You sure you're talking about Solo?
@@deathstrokeclanrules8562 Solo was 2020, Nutmeg was 2021
I love how the bigger barn owl siblings share the food to the smaller sibling 💕
I am very sad for the little bro 😞 no doubt he is dead, Robert. I might not know much but big feathers down, I know this is not a good sign 😞
It's hard seeing predation because if they don't kill, they starve...
Aw, so sad ending for a Thyme. Beside that, I just keep thinking how it feels like to be a barnowl chick and know when is first time to fly. What a wonderful world we live in.
I have recently found out thyme was found under the transformer on the power line near our house I was away at the time and thought he was found further away
@@RobertEFuller so he's still alive?
@@goldenarrow7134 To me, it sounds like he hit a power line and died. A lot of Australian fruit bats perish that way.
@@goldenarrow7134 no he died
@@Borninthe80s. 😢😭
Oh man that ending :( I have a sister and we are very close, so seeing the rare positive sibling relationship in nature is so heartwarming, but now I'm heartbroken for Thyme.
3:56 this shot is everything 💖
Aw, I miss Thyme 💕
I will never forget Nutmeg and Thyme, it moved me to tears. Thyme was so a brave and wonderful brother. It is so tremendously sad
Nutmeg is my favorite barn owl. I hope she grows to have her own family. She will be an excellent mother.
I love your sensitive storytelling, Robert and the beautiful photography. So heartwarming to have this recap of the bond between Nutmeg and Thyme. Needless to say, there are tears at the end every time I watch it but nature is tough out there for our owlets and owls. Sweet Thyme and Clove will always be in my heart. 🙏🦉🐥💚
I agree. Thank you Robert.
I remember the last time I saw Thyme, he was on nest roof when he was knocked off twice by a tawny owl. Maybe he got hurt and a fox could have caught him on the ground.
The the feathers were a Kilometre away that we found so can’t say for sure it was him
Wonderful! I do enjoy the landscape sections just as much as the owls footage. Lets us see what they are looking out at! It is a beautiful part of England.
Okay we will try to get more landscape views in to the videos
Thank you 🙏 Robert 😊😊❤❤
Owlets are the most fascinating of birds of prey......
and that little circular head movement when concentrating is magic....!!
I enjoy being apart of this family and getting to watch them over the years.
The ending was heartbreaking.
There are so many reasons why I have a particular fondness for owls. Their frequent head bobbing specific to these beauties - always makes me chuckle😅 Gylfie and Finn are absolutely seasoned parents & indeed priceless in Nature's world 🤗♥️
Wonderful video Robert (and not that I haven't seen it twice or perhaps ten times over!!) Lots of warm fuzzies 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for another lovely video , so nice to watch the lovely moments of Nutmeg and Thyme again! Lovely owlets! So great to see Nutmeg every now and then ! Thanks for the news of the found feathers......it could explain why Thyme is not seen around. How very very sad if the fox got Thyme . Even if it is natures ways.....that was our Thyme and we hoped to be able to follow his adventures in life! So sad....like it was with little Clove too and they will both be greatly missed! They live in our hearts always!
They do indeed ..
Ughh. I wasn't ready for that ending 😥. Though brief, it was lovely to meet you, Thyme. R.I.P.
The only thing I can think of when I see the chick bobbing it's head the first time at the entrance, is Outkast, "I'm Sorry Miss Jackson." Then when the brother stretched after he protected his sister, he was bad@$$. Lol
I wasn't ready for that this morning 🥲
Oh poor boy, he was so brave 😭
That is simply beautiful watching siblings looking after each other like that. ❤
I just love the way Robert tells their story and the wonderful insights we get from his work! I can't get over their nurturing and protective instincts towards each other at such a young age.....they sure had great role models 😍
5:30 is so sweet.
The bond between these two chicks is just amazing. Thank you for the video.
thyme, although only shared very little time with us, was one of my favorites. 🤍 RIP amazing birds Mrs Kes and Thyme
Real life, beautifully told story. Thank you so much.
6:42 THE WAY THYME STARES RIGHT AT THE CAMERA
Magnificent story, they are so kind to each other and so beautiful. Thanks, Mr Fuller🌹🌱🌿
I can’t believe that ending though-
really interesting behaviour..very intimate
That was a wonderful video sad about the male
What an incredible film Robert. Fascinating. Thank you so much! 🦉🦉
And thanks for watching
Love the opening Norman Rockwell-esque shot of Nutmeg and Thyme posing together. So adorable.
I want them all to live free forever!
Such precious beings. Broke my heart at end...
Fin is the Best first time dad
Were I used to work. There was a field . Every day I used to meet a couple of Barn Owls. I played a game with them . After feeding them some scraps of chicken. I would get onmy bicycle and they would chase me. After a period of time , I'd stop and feed them more chicken. I now look after an adopted Snowy owl called Loki.
✨Omg so cute 🥰🥰🥰✨
Barn Owls are my favorite. Too bad about poor Thyme.
I love your videos, Sir. These are things that people do not ordinarily get to see. Awesome! 👍
I'm new to this channel and I love that in addition to the live streams, we get these recaps with extra info abt the animals' lives away from the cameras.

Darn, Thyme gone to a fox :(
Circle of life fox got to eat
True its just sad the owl died from electrocution but at least the fox did get to eat.
Wow! This is amazing! Beautifully done from start to finish!
Barn owls are stunning. Thanks for sharing this Robert. Interesting behaviour between the siblings.

Who who who. I mean ho ho ho. Merry Christmas little creatures
Such a lovely bond between the siblings, probably handed down from their wonderful parents. Beautiful video and birds 💖
Those Barns are so cute!
Beautiful just luv them
Gylfie.... did you guys get this name as reference to Guardians of Ga'hoole?
One of our moderates Dagmar from Germany chose the name most lightly from that film
Beautiful baby birds..❤❤👍👍
Look at Nutmeg playing Mommy.Such a sweetie.I really hope it wasn't thyme😔

Absolutamente maravilloso.
Espero que Time este aún vivo, volando en algún bosque cercano.
Muchas gracias por su labor, Robert.
Enhorabuena 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I feel like the aggression from Tawny Owls is rooted in the ongoing battle over which type of owl is the cutest.
The adventures of these owls are fascinating.
Очень красивые птицы и красивый пейзаж
I never thought about barn owls having any kind of sibling bond, other videos seem to show them being rather competitive. But maybe that's only for larger broods, where they have to be aggressive in order to get any food.
It is certainly brilliant to be able to witness moments like this which would not be possible without my nest cameras.
It's almost certain a fox got Thyme. He was still unsteady and likey didn't last very long outside the nest. The same thing happened to a Peregrine Falcon cam I watch. Only one chick hatched out of 3 eggs. After he fledged he was seen on the ground that day and was placed in a tree, but then was never seen again. He should've still been getting fed from the parents and learning to hunt but he obviously died somehow, it's sad when you watch them grow from egg to a fledging chick and that happens.
It could have been a fox but also very possible he was electrocuted by the electricity transformer
Thank you.
Merry Xmas Robert, and Thank you for ALL YOUR WONDERFUL videos, and art work.
I'm heartbroken
I know so sad I have since found out he was found under a electric ⚡️ pole with a transformer on so he was Electrocuted and then the fox might have found him
This is so beautiful.
What a sweet video..I love learning about animals. Thyme and Nutmeg's relationship was precious and I feel bad for Thyme
These videos are an absolute treat.
Beautiful video, Robert.
