We've all come across these types of musicians at jam sessions...or we are one...so let me know which ones you've seen!
Send this to someone who I described in the video!! 😂
I jam with my friends often and we can never agree what to play. We are all "I'll play anything" and you described how that ends up
Forgot the person who only calls classic bebop tunes and refuses to play anything written after 65 and vibes you for calling literally any Miles Davis tune. Pretends to not know Girl From Ipanema
You jammed with Wynton?
@@sequoyahcisneros8719 Lol
@@sequoyahcisneros8719 lmaoooooooooooooo
Literally learned girl from ipanema today. First full song after 3 years or so out. Cant wait to get back into it
I love that you are still able to display your crazy talent through these little sketches!
Much appreciated!!
Honestly - Mr Pollack is absolutely outrageous! 🤩
You forgot the narcissistic beginner that has only played for a few months or years but thinks he's the best one there
Just for the laymen and younger viewers: "Jam Session" was something which people did before 2020 - spontaneous gathering of more than 10 people in rooms with bad air and plenty of alcohol to play some music. Horrific and irresponsible, I know, but back then people were THAT reckless...
😭😭
By the way: I was #1 more than one time, I confess (the opener bands here are not always something to write home about...)
we used to smoke inside during them, and not just weed!
One day this apocalypse will be over and we'll be back jamming, irresponsibly but without guilt! BTW this was brilliant Dave, you humor and wit put a smile in our face in these crap times
@@matteodeste Don't hold your breath for whether it will be allowed again...
Texter gordon! 😂😂
Listen, I can't listen to the piano solo...gotta check IG!!
This made me laugh out loud too.
@@jimmyjazz78 me too
great video Dave
Thanks Jay!
Hey Jay! Love your videos!
Hey jay you told me to buy a Bari that’s a piece of crap and I can’t get my money back
(Singers day)
This was fantastic. I know this one is about the sketches, but I really love that alto tone you had going on.
Thanks! I try to still have substance even when I'm messing around, hahah
2:51 Damn he hit the Bill Evans
😂
Omg Dave I just watched this the third time and I’m still laughing. Beyond the humor your playing is phenomenal. I’m a tenor guy but your alto sound is beautiful.
Okay but 4:53-5:02 was actually sick 🔥😂 love your vids as always!
Thank you so much!!
The only weakness Dave has is he can't play a bad solo.
I know a #2! Called like 10 tunes and they didnt know any, and we ended up on....GIANT STEPS lol
HAH! ...was it me?
@@DavePollack Ha! I think youre safe! This is in Michigan😂😂😂
I lov the ,video, im a classic rock drummer and every sunday i am at the JAZZ Jam, happens the " types " are a match for both worlds.
😂
We called 90 tunes..... ended up on concert Bb whole notes exercises.
😂
I don't want to be disrespectful, but "He's everywhere" reminded me of Sonny Stitt.
Not disrespectful, a well deserved compliment.
I feel like Dave makes fun of Sonny stitt for overplaying subliminally in a few of his videos 😂😂
Lmao #4 happened to me. This bass player called a samba that I don’t know by heart, so I was gonna read it (I’m a sax player), but then he counted it off at somewhere around 260... it was a note-y head. The audience really got a look at my humble side there
Of course the people who aren’t playing the melody call stuff like that! Haha
The quality of the production of this video is definitely the highest quality you've ever achieved. Keep it up!
Thank you!!! I’ve really worked hard on it, so I appreciate you noticing.
Love you Dave. Keep it up!
This is probably the best video of this series! The sky is the limit, man! Keep up the great work
Thank you so much!!
@@DavePollack you're very welcome. Thank you for providing us with such entertaining videos!
Love these! Keep 'em coming!
Will do!
True story, Dave!
*waiting for part 2 anxiously*
🙂
Love your videos Dave!!
Thank you! I appreciate that
Dude, your videos are gold!
Yoo thanks so much!!
I wish I could be the jazz school kid😭
aha true
Then go to jazz school hehe
You must have something to tell the listener. I have met all these players, well educated, fast as hell, but even with that high speed they never get to the goal.and suddenly they just stop playing leaving the listener confused.... great video!
Hysterical, and awesome playing as always - I could spend hours transcribing just 4 bars of your playing! I think I was one of these once a long time ago, but I don’t want to say which one😂
Wow - thanks so much! Hahah, it's okay - we all forgive you!
great playing as always!
Thank you!
Take Five in 11/12 in G# half major with a modulation in the bridge to the second mode of the B minor harmonic minor scale.
YES!!
As a Berklee student, I loved the shout out. Very appropriate😂
This guy should have over 100k views on every video man he’s so cool he deserves so many more subs, likes, views and so much more
Wow - thanks so much!
I appreciate the Ad timer. even if it wasn't, awesome videos as usual 😂
This is awesome 🤣🤣😂😂😂😀😀👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️ Great video!!! You have some great humor!!! Thanks for all you do for, I’ll check out your book of great stuff!
Thank you so much!!
These are accurate and hilarious I love these vids man
Too funny! I have another one for you. Mr. One Day! He's the guy who sits right up front at your gig, strokes his horn case, and sports an all-knowing smile but is never "quite ready" to have a play.
He might make an appearance in part 2!
This one of your funniest best videos yet🤣
Thank you!!!
Fantastic - laughed the whole way through
Wooo thanks!
Playin great Dave.
Thanks!
I have stumbled a couple of times into the rhythm section player (double bass or piano) who doesn't know the tune by heart, doesn't want to read the changes, and picks the tune that the soloist is supposed to play.
Underrated channel wtf
Thanks!
No more taxes saxes, hilarious. Love the HW Bush reference
Me and my friends in high school played Mercy Mercy Mercy in 3 and we loved the sound, so we would adapt it into regular use.
Also, I was #10.
Hehe, you made my day! Im probably all of these and beyond🤣😂
So I'm not allowed to go with jam with the gang anymore... but that's okay. At least I can count nested tuplets over the barline in 15/16 and pi/9 time signatures alternating!
Hahahahahaaaa
Jazz school for life!
dude, your mr. jazz school runs were sick! :D
Thanks! I do like playing like that from time to time, hah
LMAO. Such niche parody while also so well executed.
Thank you!!
You are a fantastic saxophone player. But this video I didn’t get so much out of. Creative, yes. Too creative? Yes.
You sound great even when you try to sound bad...you are skilled in all those ways
Written solo guy was so funny. I think I've seen one in my country. It's good to know that I wasn't the only one to think rehearsed solos are not that cool.
So Dave, these 10 people all have to be your alto ego, because you have them all down so well! I laughed and cringed all at the same time. And only you could make sax that is supposed to be so bad sound so good!
Hahaha, thanks so much!
lolol this is great ! But to be honest the Jazz school cat sounds a lot like Sonny Stitt on a ballad if we are be totally honest! 🙈😂
Hey i love playing like that sometimes too!
You’re playing is so good I know it’s a skit but jheeez
Hah, thanks
hahaha, this fabulous playing, thanks Dave, proves to me that I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but at least I only inflict my junk on my YT followers, and the neighbours
I can’t wait for my book to come.
There won't be a physical book - just digital. You can print it out if you want it on paper though!
Next, do different types of UA-cam Musicians. :D
OH MAN that's a good idea...
So many songs that actually have written solos in the band arrangements...
Now I really want to hear Satin Doll as a funk!
Funny and so true! On the serious note, as I've asked before, you need to do some videos on your piano playing bro!
Thanks! What would you want to see?
@@DavePollack well, I've gone through many books that show you about things like camping, but I would love to know how to put it all together in order to play melodies and chords, as if you were playing a solo piano gig type of thing. I love comping and all, but sometimes I want to actually play a tune as well, know what I mean? In college, I was only exposed to the comping part.
*comping*
Jazz school is sick!! 🤘🤘
Haa thanks Ant!!
Hi Dave! I would like to know what is your mouthpiece? I’m looking for something with dark sound and easy to play. What you recommend me?
i played with that guy. never took the horn out of his gob
Let’s play Some Day my Prince will Come in 3.14159.... lol
Hahaaaa
Dude's a beast! Cheers
Much appreciated!
yup. i'm gonna need that full video of the jazz school. that shit should be illegal.
yooooo second, also i love these kind of videos 😂
And I love making them!
@@DavePollack - Humour and music is always a great combination. I love these "ten types of" clips. Well done.
laughed so hard on #8 lol
I am without a doubt number 9
your piano is amazing thats something I'd like to learn
Thanks Keith! Piano is a ton of fun. For jazz stuff, start out with Bill Evans shell voicings
@@DavePollack thanks K
I would be honored to get vibed by you at a jam
Hahahah! Except I don’t vibe people.
I was at an after hours jam in LA many years ago, and there was a tenor player who wouldn't stop playing a fast blues. He wasn't making any sense, and the rule (unwritten) was that if you couldn't say it in two choruses, you couldn't say it. Anyhow, this guy is on his 20th chorus of fast blues in F, and Willie Bobo slowly takes off his ride cymbal and drops it on the ground. Didn't even move the needle. Dude kept playing for another 10 choruses.
Jeeeeez...I would LOVE to be there for something like that.
Is “jazz school” Dave Pollack, God?
Hahahahaaaaa
This has probably been said somewhere but what mouthpiece do you use now, and why don't you use the Meyer you drilled through :(?
It's a 10mfan "Alto Madness" in Ultem material (size 5). Well I don't use that one because...well...I donated it to the church. It is a holey mouthpiece afterall 😉
Love your playing, even when its sarcastic!!!!
Thanks! I always try to have substance to everything
I'm ms written solo just because I can't improvise... That au privave solo is actually the one I use all the time.
Texter: while the rest are jamming to Giant Steps, He is continuing down the cursed Giant Steps mashups rabbit hole
😂
You are Desmondesque at 3:34.
I love your alto sound.
Thanks so much!
"After today, I think I will just come here to make cameo appearances".
It's honestly ridiculous that a shitpost vid has this level of musicianship lol. I fucking love the Brecker quote towards the end
Dude, I think everyone is gonna start calling tunes in Pi now. Lol. Beautiful sound, all jokes aside.
Hahaha!!! I can’t wait to hear that. Thanks!
#10 amazing :)
#1 is almost every student in UNF lmao
Ha!
Hi, that back track you use on when i fall in love, where can I find this? Its not on any aebersold I think? I have one of my students working on that tune so would be cool to have a nice play along for him. Keep up the flow, I realy like your channel and he humor to:)
It’s just the app “iRealPro”
#5 made me laugh - sounds like an idea I would have
The Mr Jazz School was actually a great solo
4:40 what tune is this 😩 whered you get the backing?
"When I Fall in Love" - it's just the irealPro backing track
The Jazz school:
He is everywhere and nowhere
NO NEW SAXES IM WHEEEEZINGGGG
#6 is basically John Coltrane
If it wasn't true we wouldn't be laughing so hard right now!
Haha! 😂 I always try to put truth in there.
ey what was the last tune called again?
"When I Fall in Love"
Dave, you play awesome even when you're just joking. Very nice video.
Thanks! I always try to have substance even when I'm messing around.
3:30 BIRD!
Odd meter monte is just Steve kortyka.
Tbh I’m “Mr. Written Solo” because I’m terrified of improv 😎
I feel seen.
Berklee Funk 😅😅
another variation of this is someone who tries to play everything as a latin groove
Wow! 👍🌎
😂 nailed it
Thanks!
hey dave, awesome video. how do you make the ireal piano sound like that?
Thanks! What do you mean?
@@DavePollack your ireal piano sound is different than the default. how do you do that?
I organaize a jam session here in germany for I think over 3 or 4 years now and pretty much every other session has died
like 90% of Jazz and non Jazz Sessions are dead in a radius of 50km (and I live in one of the most populated areas)
we had a culture problem here in germany but now I think the culture is really in deep trouble
We're bearly hanging in there with all the regulations and madness that is being thrown in our direction
it has been hard for the pub because it is at the same time a hotel so the regulations hit from all sides.
we have like 2 weeks until the regulations are slowly lifted and a month until most of the regulations will be lifted
but I can tell that all of this has taken a big toll
we used to have a big hip hop session with lots of people coming and some serious freestyle skills
they tried continuing their session on twitch but it just didnt feel right and not enough people were watching really kinda sad
most of the "trees" in the garden will have to be planted anew
