Call me a coward but there's no way I am going into a deep dark cave in the name of exploring or any other reason. And I decided that long before I saw this movie
The Descent is one of my favorite horror films! It really plays upon our fears of darkness, drowning, and claustrophobia. This film is very reminiscent of the Alien franchise and The Thing, in that we find ourselves trapped in a dark and highly claustrophobic environment while being stalked by a predator. The director of the Descent, Neil Marshall, cites several classic horror films as inspiration such as The Thing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Deliverance. He was also inspired by Italian horror films, particularly the works of Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci. The creatures in this film were dubbed “Crawlers” by the production crew. For his concept, Marshall described the crawlers as cavemen who never left the caves. He said, “They've evolved in this environment over thousands of years. They've adapted perfectly to thrive in the caves. They've lost their eyesight, they have acute hearing and smell and function perfectly in the pitch black. They're expert climbers, so they can go up any rock face and that is their world." Instead of just one crawler, the cave system is home to a colony of these prehistoric creatures. They’ve lived in complete isolation from civilization for centuries, and only leave the caves to hunt at night and bring their down food. The director went to great lengths to prevent the film's cast from seeing the actors in full crawler make-up until their first appearance on screen. Natalie Mendoza (Juno) said, "When the moment came, I nearly wet my pants! I was running around afterwards, laughing in this hysterical way and trying to hide the fact that I was pretty freaked out. Even after that scene, we never really felt comfortable with them." While the story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, The Descent was filmed in the in the United Kingdom. The cave scenes are actually sets built at Pinewood Studios near London. The filmmakers considered it too dangerous and time-consuming to shoot in actual caves. I’m not sure if you two noticed, but Juno was having an affair with Sarah’s husband. It’s strongly implied at the beginning that there is something going on between Paul and Juno. He was feeling guilty about the affair which caused him to become distracted while driving. The pendant Juno wears that says “Love Each Day,” was a gift to her from Paul. The ending is very dark as it implies Sarah never actually left the caves. However, there was a sequel in 2009 revealing that she did eventually manage to escape the caves and return with another group to investigate the events of the first film. I love this channel, and you ladies are some of my favorite reactors. Thank you for being such troopers and I hope you both had fun. For other great horror films, I hope you get a chance to see the Evil Dead movies, Halloween, The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jaws, An American Werewolf in London, Poltergeist, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Gremlins, Silence of the Lambs, From Dusk Till Dawn, Scream, The Ring, 28 Days Later, Saw, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Pandorum, Insidious 1 & 2, The Conjuring, Don’t Breathe, Lights Out, Train to Busan, It (2017), A Quiet Place, and The Black Phone. If you prefer more funny horror, I would strongly recommend Tremors, Beetlejuice, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, and the Monster Squad. 🫶🏻
I do NOT recommend the sequel (yes, there's a sequel). Neil Marshall - the film's writer and director - said the sequel was "completely unnecessary. The first film resolves itself, whichever ending you choose. It wraps it up in a way that was bleak, whichever way you cut it. The second film began and it didn't pick up from either ending." And yes, there was a different ending planned, but it didn't make the final cut.
The second one is good too. Recommended: Ghost Ship Stay Alive Dog Soldiers Even Lambs have Teeth The Scarehouse The Orphanage Chrimmson Rivers Je Suis Karl
Hey Toy! You're looking wonderful! Haven't seen you for a while, kinda thought my impression I did in the comments mat have annoyed you or something. If it did, then I apologise. Just being silly, that's all. I don't see why everyone one was scared of those creatures, that's what I see in the mirror every morning before coffee, lol! 😂😂 When I first saw ' Descent ', I wasn't expecting all that much from it but was pleasantly surprised. Loved You're reactions, especially when they ( The creatures) dribbled on the girl, ahhahaha! 😂😂 A fantastic reaction once again. Have a wonderful day, take care! ❤
The international version is not available on streaming for us, but we did find the original ending and recorded a separate reaction to it right after watching the film. There's a link in the video description.
Guys you know Juno killed that girl by accident she turned with the climbing axe and stopped by accident but she was stupid enough not to tell everybody the truth.
42:08 "Whose idea was it to put in the mole people?" For laughs, that kind of makes me wish you would watch the cheesy 1956 sci-fi adventure flick "The Mole People" which was a staple of syndicated late night TV horror/sci-fi movie shows.
As a man at least it's the shoulders that would at least let me know I can't get through a gap, giving me the chance to back out. For women I would think it's the hips that would have the most chance of getting stuck, in which case there's probably no way of backing out. Both eventualities scare the crap out of me.
Unfortunately, this is the American version. Like Brad Pitt says in "The Devil's Own", "It's not an American story, it's an Irish one." (Or English in this case)
Couldn't pay me enough to get me to crawl headfirst through a hole in the ground no wider than my shoulders and I'm a pretty skinny guy 😅 Spelunking is a special kind of adrenaline seeking hobby.

This movie is ALIEN but takes place inside a cave, but thankfully, it was never filmed in an actual cave, it was filmed on a large soundstage in Pinewood Studios London England.
I mean it's Alien if the monsters were super generic humanoid cannibals though. But I agree there's the same kind of claustrophobia. In fact IMO the strongest part of the movie is the part before the monsters show up. A shame they didn't go for a more psychological type of horror.
In the original ending she didn't get out it was a dream after she saw dead Juno she wakes back up in the cave and she can see her daughter with a birthday cake

Juno was having an affair with the husband, her key chain had "love each day" engraved on it, which was his saying to his wife and kid, which is what clued Sarah in when she saw it, and as it was an affair with her best friends husband Juno couldn't grieve openly after the car accident, and couldn't ask her friends for help.
Neil Marshall was well on his way to being the modern John Carpenter - with Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday and Centurion, he was establishing himself as a solid director who could create some elevated b-movies that run from good fun to legitimately iconic on a shoestring budget. To the point where it landed him a gig directing some of the biggest episodes of Game Of Thrones and other big TV work like the Black Sails pilot. ...and then it all just fell over. Seems there were some big problems I the personal life that took everything off the rails. A real shame.
Producer's note: Doomsday is one of my favorites movies. We recorded a reaction to it with Toy and Abby, but there was a technical problem and the video didn't come out. We may record one with Hannah and Tori.
Two things I love: 1) How you immediately rescinded your "Thank You" to the Patreons who recommended this film (bless their souls); and 2) How immediately "Descent" telegraphs that the viewer is in for a rough ride. Hate to put this in people mind but this movie can actually be real there are so many caves systems under explored really don't know what awakes in the shadows animals, beasts or mutants
Caving is one thing I'd never do. I grew up on the story of Neil Moss, who got stuck in a cave not far from here and expert rescuers from all over the world couldn't help him. He died in the cave, and they couldn't even get his body out. In the end they poured concrete into the vertical tunnel he was stuck in and put a memorial stone on top. We got extra details from a relative who was an ambulance driver, attended the scene, and talked to some of the cavers. They were the sort of details that were kept out of the newspapers to avoid upsetting his family even more. I long ago made peace with the idea that I might die in a motorbike crash one day, but no way in hell am I going out like that.
Oh great! I love this movie! It's one of the most claustrophobic movies I've ever seen. Edited: that's not the ending I saw, the one I saw is the best! (But I guess you don't have the sequel with that one)

My claustrophobia intensified reading about that story.

Oh great! I love this movie! It's one of the most claustrophobic movies I've ever seen.
Edited: that's not the ending I saw, the one I saw is the best! (But I guess you don't have the sequel with that one)
Producer's note: we recorded a reaction to the other ending as well. The link is in the video description.
@@RuntotheMovies Oh cool, I'll watch. Thanks!
Similar Cave setting Films: "The Descent 2", "The Cave", "My Bloody Valentines" (80's), "Catacombs" "As Above So Below"
Please watch part 2 please
Little recommendation with the swearing. Don't bleep it, just mute it. Bleeping is utterly irritating.
Tori is so funny.

Well exactly the little girl was the one that got speared in the head if you notice.
Were you happy that Sarah stabbed Juno and left her to be eaten?
