Good eye. Yes, it’s supposed to be down in the water. But in some of these shots we switched it because it was only a couple of water and then hard mud under and the scag being down wouldn’t let us get up to speed.
I’m building a 1442 flat bottom right now that’s similar to yours. I’m looking at the 16 or 18hp, do you think I will see significant power with the 16 or should I go for the 18? It will mostly be just me in the boat
I'm late to the party, but consider bolting it directly to the transom. I lost a surface drive in the lake cause even though the mount was tight, the unit is so damn heavy that it wasn't enough to hold it on my boat. Granted it was a rough wake that day, but still should've just bolted that sucker
second this, had 4 long tails slip off the transom. i now still use tbe mount but put 4 self tappers in the backside so it can’t come off. and i don’t have holes through my transom.
Thanks for watching! I got mine from mud-skipper.com. They're the only brand I've used, as this was my first time. I would say that they are definitely more on the "budget" side of all the long tail companies. I know some other have more grease fittings, are a bit more robust, etc. But they did a good job for me and it held up great. They have different long tail offering for different size motors, so make sure you get the right one because the bigger motors have a bigger base and big drive shaft.
Looks like a great setup. This is fast. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
What motor mount set up is that?
Why did you turn your shaft upside down? When your out in the water your scag is sticking up in the air instead of down.

You can tell it's a first time for him

why do you have that wood bolted on the outside of the transom and on the sides?
Makeshift float boxes... haha trying to get more float. It's actually foam spray painted black.

thank god they came in the boat and didn’t fall off.
What speeds you getting when you’re solo?
I’m purchasing the same motor just 18hp, can I ask where did you get your long tail kit and what would you recommend?
