Just walking through Eden (the introduction of the game) before Ascalon was destroyed. The green hills, nice music, the first pet as a ranger. I want to go back !
I remember playing this game with my father years back when I'd visit him in his home on Christmas break or summer break. We'd do dungeons, or just roam around the world. My father was the one who introduced me into playing this game, and I loved playing with him, on my Assassin, and him, his Monk, or Mesmer. My father passed a few years ago, and I sure miss him. But that is what makes listening to this soundtrack all the more better.
No, that's not his name, though I don't feel comfortable giving out his real name. What I will say is: he belonged to a guild called [Mara] Mature. Age. Recruitment. Alliance. It was a guild only for 18 year olds and up, so of course I could not join since I started playing this game when I was very young. The guild was dying as everyone started moving to Gw2, and even offered to make him guild leader. I went to Gw2, though he did not. He never was interested in Gw2, and thus never touched it. I stopped playing both games, so I have no idea what happened to his guild.
Hey, I was a member of MARA from the very early days, when we were BFLP. (Bald, Fat, Lazy and Proud.) It was a great bunch of players. I'm very sorry to hear about your father. I hope hearing the soundtrack brings back as many good memories for you as it does for me.
I on the other hand had my father hate me for spending so much time playing this game. I feel a little envious lol and im sorry to hear about your father. im glad you got to enjoy this awesome game alongside him!
Sorry to hear. I have alot of games that give me similar feelings, both good and bad. Its interesting to go back and get those feelings again. At the very least, you have a game and a soundtrack you can go back to that can remind you of all the good times you had with your dad.
i started the game when i was 12, my first online game, i played it for seven years, its difficult to admit but...GW is a huge part of my life my young gw1 times are deep in my heart...
Don't you wish we could erase our memories and experience Guild Wars Prophecies for the first time again? Listening to the soundtrack takes me back. I played when i was a junior in high school and got kicked off the football team because instead of going to summer camp, I stayed inside and played Guild Wars ALL summer. I literally missed every camp because I couldn't turn off my computer. When my friends came over to hang out, I didn't go because I couldn't turn off my computer. I was crazy addicted. Eat. Sleep. Guild Wars. Who knew what was waiting on my next adventure? I had to go see the Shiverpeaks for myself. During the evening/nights, I'd sit in Lions Arch/Droknar's Forge/Ascalon City just trading for hours and hours until my eyes could no longer stay open. Only then would I go to bed. So that I could rest up to do it again the next day.
But that will mean we see Old Ascalon burn again, lush fields turn into sea's of fire, walls that should have kept us safe, killing our family during collapse! Maybe the past is best left in the past.
I started Prophecies with 2 of my best friends in 2005. Back then this was our favorite game. We played everything in PVE Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. But that wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to get into PVP after i saw the GVG World Finals at the Games Convention in Leipzig. Idiot Savants [iQ] vs. War Machine [WM], which WM won. I played some GvG’s and made my deer with Healingball/Iway and Vim. Unfortunately both of my friends stopped pretty soon after that (even before EotN came out). I stopped as well for about a year, but in 2008 I found GW again and i fought my way up in the HoH many, many times with different awesome guilds, until i got my Phoenix in the end of 2009/ beginning 2010. I started again in summer 2015 after some GW2, which didn’t had the same feeling at all. Our guild and alliance gave new life to HA, even there are mostly botting and ganking people. Pretty sad. We then decided to create another character and play it real oldschool in Prophecies without using the chest or any materials we already had. It was a AWESOME experience. If you have the time, do it. Do every quest and every single mission, using only the stuff you find or can trade/craft. Over the years I made a lot of good friends in the game and in real life. You can say, GW changed my life and all the experiences I made, still are a big part of me and will remain forever. This may sound very cheesy, but i think many people who actually played GW1 can relate to that. Times change, people change, but the memories will stay.
Reading this comment in 2023 hit me so hard. War machine were absolute beasts. Everything you said is true. I have such incredibly fond memories of this time of my life, almost entirely due to this game.
My favourite part of gw1 missing from guild wars 2 is the ability bar design and the adventure and reward you got from capping elite skills. Gaining actual abilities as rewards for very hard tasks and using those abilities like a recipe to experiment with is really one thing that made gw1 great.
and this is what is missing from GW2. I was really disapointed with the game overall, and I never play it. All those years of anticipation and excited waiting, and then feeling really let down by what they released. :(
I started guild wars back in 2006 when I was like 14. I still log in sometimes today just to run around and enjoy the music. Truly a masterpiece of a game, and absolutely one of a kind.
@@bonesnharmony3422 That game is dogshit, don't even waste your time playing it, the original is still active and has thousands of people playing it and experiencing the fun we all had from our childhoods
You know what is so special about this soundtrack? Apart from that I still play GW with my friends sometimes and it's no real nostalgia for me, it overwhelms me with nostalgia. I remember playing this game for the first time in the summer of 2006. Parents were not on good terms and the summer was shit here. I met a few people on this game I still hangout with to this day. But the most important for me is the music, which is so legendary that every player gets hit with nostalgia. Thank you Jeremy Soule❤
That feeling of intense nostalgia is so bittersweet. It feels like a void in my stomach, yearning for times gone by. Guild wars 1 was something special, something that will unfortunately never be replicated
I can harldy believe it's been so long since I played this game. The best memories of online gaming for me are from Guild wars. I don't want to forget, but it makes me sad every time I remember of it. I logged in a couple of days ago and went from town to town remembering what a blast experience it was back then...
Still one the most well done games of the gamming history! My main char was Minion Master.(Necro/Monk) When there was any corpses I would change it to a Life Steal Toucher ( Necro/Ranger ) OP!
Jeremy Soule should be in some kind of Hall of Fame, the man's music is embedded in my childhood. Guild Wars series, Elder Scrolls series, Baldur's Gate series, Dungeon Siege series, DOTA 2. Just recently realized he did the first KotOR game soundtrack as well, one of my favorites. Legend
***** True story, nice comment. People don't usually stress that that fact enough, but the poeple in that game were great indeed. That community was amazing. That's one of the most important parts of any MMO game, and Guild Wars scored over nine thousand on that department. I miss the guilds, I miss the friends and the teams, I miss trading with good people and not scammers, I miss being able to help a stranger in need and getting good help from another one with more experience when the tables turn and I turn out to need help that time. I miss meeting someone looooooooooooooooooong (game wise, like pre-searing) and than finding that person again, in a new guild, in the Hall of Heroes, in a mission outpost, anywhere, months after, and still remembering one another. Made a lot of friends with that game and they helped me to enjoy the game even more. Damn it, I really miss this game XD
hmm its so long ago 2005 february i was 15 this was my first online rpg , i made many friends and stay there for so long pvp was really the best thing gw1 is for sure the most inspirating part of my life i start drawing weapons because of gw1 and music style changed :) thanks gw1 :)
its all about the timing i remember the times with teamspeak 2 and the 1.5 second delay :D spike in 3.... 2 (people press their skills) 1.... xDDD and the spike (burst) was perfect :D
Every now and then, I tend to just turn off the GW2 music and blast GW1's soundtrack. Sometimes I wish I could go to back to the days when I was still playing through GW1 for the first time and re-experience everything again. GW2 has done a lot of things right but GW1 is where it's at for me.
Exact same thing for me. The first Guild Wars is probably my favorite game of all time. I wish I could experience it for the first time all over again.
ZabaZu That's what makes it so sad, knowing that I'll never have that feeling of first watching the Searing tear up Old Ascalon or seeing Rurik die (and then come back later as an enemy!) or find out that the White Mantle were bad guys all along! It's all old now, and I think part of me resents GW2 for not invoking those feelings again. Among other things (although I do enjoy it. It's definitely not near as good as 1 though).
Robert Davis I remember being a younger kid and waking up between 4 and 5 am, on school days, just to get a few missions in. GW1 is really my favorite game of all time because aside from it being an amazing game on its own, for me personally, it psychologically takes me back to a time in my life where I didn't have to worry about being late for work, selling my arm and leg to pay for college, or anything really. And I think I go back to GW1 because part of me misses that and it's the best way I know how to get it back.
***** "It psychologically takes me back to a time in my life where I didn't have to worry about being late for work, selling my arm and leg to pay for college, or anything really." I think that's definitely another part of the magic for me. It's why I listen to old video game music and watch old shows that I did as a kid, no matter how stupid they may be. I feel like the magic is gone but I try to bring it back regardless.
+Arlindo "val" Baby please So, should we make a new guild? I have one, but it is not too expensive for me to make a new one. A hall, I don't have enough for, and I don't have one now. :)
Hey, this is me, Beartican XD please email my public email for the google plus and possibly skype group links! I would love to record, I just hope I have time XD
i tried it about a year ago. I was looking forward to playing ETN and nightfall as I havn't played it before but the whole game was just so damn empty....
Everyone leaves becase there is no people, thats why there is no people :P Try to go to american districts (some international for PVP as Heroes Ascent) , in kamadan there is always one district full!
I felt such a staggering grip of nostalgia when I started to listen to the soundtrack. I could not move for minutes, I was literally stunned. I grew up with this fucking game. So many memories... I probably started it in the 6th grade. Now I'm in the second year of university... Listening to this brings back old days. Still on the verge of crying, and all becasue of a fucking game... Life is a wonder, isn't it?
I love both games with all my heart, but every once in a while when I'm playing GW2, I can't escape feeling a certain way.. Like something's missing. Something that isn't there anymore. Maybe it's because of nostalgic reasons. Maybe because GW1 was my first MMO, and probably one of my favorite games ever. Maybe not. Truth be told, I don't even know myself.. But when I listen to this soundtrack, and ESPECIALLY The Great Northern Wall, I feel that way.
I got a bad feeling in GW2 too, first because they brought a steampunk theme (scarlet) and a sci-fi theme with the asuras (less present in GWEN). and second because we don't have the coop missions. Which were key to convey the storyline and to make the game immersive.
There is a *lot* that isn't there anymore. Beyond taking in the initial beauty of places like Divinity's Reach, Queensdale, swimming underwater with quaggans, and The Grove at Night, I've been unable to get into Guild Wars 2, and it breaks my heart. I feel like arena net sold out on me. I hoped GW2 would take everything that was great about GW1, and add to it whole new layers, dimensions and possibilities, but that's not what happened. GW2 has no meaningful overarching storyline. The personal storyline is boring, you can't play through it with your friends, and you aren't made to feel like a true hero/saviour of Tyria, but just one of many heroes doing petty errands. GW1 sent you on a long epic quest (with a compelling story, and point to it all) in which you were true hero, and it infused the entire game with purpose and meaning. GW2 maps are ghost towns after Queensdale upon release. The skills system in GW2 was boiled down to the lowest common denominator - in GW1 there were hundreds of skills to choose from for each profession that gave never ending variety and surprise, and I had endless hours of fun tinkering builds and trying out new spells/skills I hadn't even known about before. They removed secondary professions, which were a beautiful touch in GW1. In GW1 it was always clear what to do next, you were given both a powerful main story that filled you with the pride and purpose of your character who needed to "save the world" so to speak, and your were given loads of sideline / secondary quests, that you could do as and when you feel (and without them disappearing like this living world crap). In GW2 I find myself staring into space saying "ok... so what do I do, where am I meant to go to see some action that I actually care about?". Also the whole "200 years later" / technological advancement really takes away from the game for me. I love romantic medieval sword and sorcery style fantasy, like GW1. Firearms and a post-industrialised environment etc in GW2 utterly break that magical ambiance for me, not to mention lasers and robots which go even further to utterly ruin it. And where the hell are Guild Halls?! These are not only thematic, give a wonderful communal place to meet fellow members, organise games, or simply feel 'at home', but give meaning the concept of being in a guild. A guild without a guild hall is just a bunch of text messages on a screen. In PvE, enemies re-spawn about five seconds later, which makes the process of killing them seem utterly pointless and meaningless, and kills the suspension of disbelief. The absence of heroes and henchman's sucks. The level 80 end-game content cannot be played solo or even with one friend, but forces you to find a group or not play the game at all. I could go on and on. sigh Jeremy Soule is still a genius though.
DionysianAssassin this makes me sad for GW2, but also lets me know I made the right decision not playing GW2. Oh well, it was beautiful, for a moment in GW1..... Glad so many others got to enjoy and share the magic I experienced.
I've played both 1 and 2 pretty extensively over the years and I'd have to agree that I enjoyed GW1 a lot more than 2. That said, I'm not completely giving up on GW2. The game itself is pretty young still and there's a lot of room for improvement in various aspects of the game. Part of me hopes that ANet will hear their player-base out and deliver on what we want as time goes on. Until something game-breaking comes out though GW1 still holds a place in my heart. GW1 itself did a pretty solid job on the immersion due to (imo) the co-op system it had, the instancing that it had, and the reallllllllly good story with the amazing backed up lore (I love learning about the lore of a game and the GW universe is at the top of my list). When you compare it to GW2, GW2 is arguably less immersive and (the worst part for me) it has such a weak personal story. I hope that ANet really picked up from their flaws in the personal story and improve on it through the living world. But when you think about it, we all knew it was going to happen like this. It's impossible to please everyone and unfortunately a lot of people that were interested in the storyline among other things just couldn't connect with GW2 as much as they had hoped (myself included.) All that said, ANet did a good job in other areas. The combat system is arguably a large improvement from the first game (although I'm not a fan of the steam-punk styled stuff) and even though there aren't nearly as many skills as there were for each profession in the original, I have no doubt that many more will be added as time goes on. If anything, it's the mainhand/offhand weapon gameplay that gets stale for me. If I'm a warrior with a sword mainhand, there's only one way that I can use that sword. I'm always going to have the same skills on that weapon and if I ever want to change it up, I'll need a new weapon set. I digress.. GW2 isn't perfect but there are things to enjoy about it. GW1 certainly had its flaws as well but we all came to love the game for all of our own reasons.
If you've had the privilege of experiencing this gameworld during your teenage years, you can still dream it after all those years. Blue ice caves and frozen glaciers are still passing my memory. The music that draws you in. The color palette, bloom lightning and fairytale aesthetic created an experience where you were living your story among thousands of others living theirs. I've travelled to places on the other side of the world that were less memorable than the adventures I had with people in this VR from all over the world. Now it's a distant memory, the community I knew quite a few people in, no longer in touch. The lack of living in a timeless universe within it's own laws. The fun that was had with complete strangers and the humour, the nonsensical humour via the chatsystem. The obscene gestures you could make your character do to people you would never have to see again. Scolding them and npc's for being so insignificant. Those were the days!!
I played Guild Wars 1 as early as the World Premiere. I remember when it officially launched, I played straight through the night and into the next day. My dad was so pissed.
I was 25 when this came out. My wife (then girlfriend) and I both bought collector's editions of this game. Played together for years, making many friends along the way. This whole soundtrack gives me shivers.
It hurts...... and yet it feels so good at the same time... I both love and hate nostalgia. I love the fact that it almost brings you back in time to when life was simple.. you were young.. no worries.. no stress.. but I hate it because you know you can never truly relive those times.. they are gone forever.. they are nothing but distant memories.
This music brings back so many memories. I remember thinking pre-searing was the entire game lol! Spent a total of 3300 hours in this game and thinking of picking it up again. GuildWars 2 is very boring with three lvl 80's. Cba to grind ages for a legendary. I miss GW1 PvP as well, much more fun. All that time screwing around in AB. And creating your own builds out of random skills was awesome. If only we could go back to 2007 again.. :(
The original games had so much more to offer imo :'( The new game is good, but way too focused to pulling in most amount of people, which makes it lose it's difficulty and atmosphere when looking at the entire picture. The result here is that most of the original playerbase, me included, quit altogether after hitting 80 on several chars. The PvP in the original indeed felt much more fun for me too. Also, GW2, no actual Guild Wars! Oh the irony. If only they'd continue on the old games... There even were plans for a Kickstarter to continue the Prophecies line, but Arenanet didn't approve it would seem.
Hey you can still play it if you want to! I just started playing again and got right away into a guild of over 80 members who welcomed me warmly. :) Gz on 3300 hours, I only got 77 :O
NoBiggie I know the servers are still up :) I log on from time to time. But it's all heroes work now. Almost feels like a single player game haha When Prophecies/Factions came out, almost every town you went into had people. And there were no heroes, so you had to work with random people as a team (hench AI sucked).
Guild wars is the best MMORPG i've ever played. This soundtrack brings such a soothing sensation. I close my eyes listening at #5 - eye of the Storm and I see myself walking off in Ascalon ... Everything so beautiful .... The gameplay so much fun .... I havn't seen any other game that managed to mesh the perfect gameplay of GW 1. The class system will never be surpassed (In my book anyway) ...
Man this game... I played it for over 10.000 hours. At one point I calculated how much % that was of my life. It was about 7% of my entire life! Such good times, loved my elementalist. That moment when you get your first set of Obsidian Armor, crazy!!
I am glad to see that I am not the only one for who this game has been so important. For me, it's Temple of Tolerance, Devona's Theme and Guild at War that resonates the most with me. The emotion is so powerful that it hurts. I miss the game. I miss the people. The feelings. The achievements. Hanging out with other roleplayers at the little city from which we could go to the desert by boat (AWESOME COOP MISSION BTW!!). I could go on but I'm sure you know exactly what I am talking about. We have moved on with our lifes and we now realize that those golden years begining in 2003 were awesome times. It hurts that it is over but at the same time that's what make the memories and the game so precious. As someone said : "The experience can only happen one time and who would want to play a dead game? Guild wars 1 was a social game."
I really appreciated their Tech Support team when I bought Factions and accidentally assigned Factions to a new account instead of my Prophecies account. In a few days they fixed it all up, so happy about that.
This game was such a crazy good Christmas gift when I was a kid. I couldn't believe I'd gotten it and now the music and just traveling the overworld is always with me. I listen to the gw1 soundtrack in gw2 a lot of the times to remind me of those times as a kid.
That moment, when you got out of the (prophecies) tutorial, opened the map and thought: Oh lord, that will take some time :) These soundtracks are so great. I've played like 10 different mmorpgs, but non had such great soundtracks as GW1. The only game I nearly never listened to other music but the ingame one. I miss the good old times. It has been a huge part of my childhood. About 4200h playtime. Best game I have every played.
This game was the perfect mix of PVP and PVE. Both were very rewarding modes at the start of the game. (PVP became very toxic and snobbish later) I started this game with 17 years and when I stopped playing it because GW2 was released (and all the warnings that GW is dead became real) I was 25 years old. And during this time I played it daily and I had such a great time with my guild. So yeah, this game was a big part of my life. Sad that there never was another great game like this.
They killed the game with GW2, and when it finally came around, it was NOTHING like the game we knew. Years in the future with technology, no gods, and a social commentary of working together. REMASTER GW1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The beginning of Guild Wars was a special experience. Although I didn't know it at the time, this game was where I developed my passion for nature, beautiful music by Jeremy Soule, connections with strangers, and my passion for sales. I was between 10-15 years old when I first began playing the original Guild Wars. Little did I know this game would have such an influence on the man I am today. Over a decade ago, I played the game and hunted the titles and achievements, but eventually caught myself focusing on the beauty of the game and its community instead. From the beautiful ocean near Lion's Arch to the dramatic landscapes of the Shiverpeaks, I admired the game's design. Eventually, I grew tired of pursuing achievements. I decided to become a trader of valuable goods in the game's largest Traders market, Lion's Arch. I joined guilds and made friends. As a teenage kid, I caught myself sitting and talking to strangers all day and night. What brought me the most joy was being outside and enjoying the beauty of the game, talking to strangers, making deals, and listening to the incredibly rich orchestra music in game. Today, I am a door to door salesman. I'm outside every day enjoying nature and making deals through my conversations with strangers. In game, my first 100% completed titled was "Grand Master Cartographer". This meant I had been literally everywhere in game. Outside of my professional work as a salesman, I travel the world constantly and am earning my "Grand Master Cartographer" title in life, just like I had achieved in game. Coincidentally, I am also a creator of music and have an indescribably deep passion for classical music. This game was where many of my greatest passions were first discovered. Through a few good choices, I am able to live every day in real life as if I am still that teenage boy in Lion's Arch making deals, enjoying the music, making friends out of complete strangers, and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story! It got me thinking. I was about 12-14 when I played Guild Wars, and my main character (who I've been playing on the last week or so!) is a Ranger. I did a bit of farming using traps, but I did a lot of running as well. I loved to look at the landscapes of Tyria and take screenshots and spend hours discussing the lore on the GWGuru forum. A few months later, I asked my dad for my first recurve bow. I haven't touched the thing in years but lately have thought about getting back into it. Like you, I love nature. I go hiking a lot and hope to travel more. I run as well. Sports never stuck with me, but being alone with my thoughts and pushing myself through the woods and wooded paths is a wonderful feeling. Other interests come and go, but the feeling of seeking adventure is something that began to resonate me around the age when I played GW. I think it's no coincidence that now as I approach my 28th birthday, the GW notsalgia has hit me like a train - and also a reminder of all these little things and how much they mean to me and how important that feeling of wonder is to living a good life. It's like our characters in the game taught us who we could become or something. I'm so glad to hear this game meant as much to other people as it did to me and I'm glad the servers are still up.
I started GW1 when i was 16. It was my first (and unique) online game that I've played like this. A really strange experience in hindsight. I'm not a fan of the others styles of online game, and I can't start a new life in a MMORPG now (i am 25). In only 2 years, I have played more than 2000 hours (almost 3 month in real time), it was a parallel life, the true. I remember that night of the new year, with my friend, in the same room, but on 2 PC, on the same server... When I listening this soundtrack, these memories are back, and I know that they will forever inscribed in my mind, like a graceful dream in this end of innocence time called adolescence.
Listening to this music, reading the comments...it nearly brought me to tears. The original GW was an incredible game, with beautiful/atmospheric/epic music, excellent content, and the best community of any MMORPG. I have so many special memories immersing myself in this magical world with friends and family. I miss those days...
I spent 5000 hours of my life with this music ! it is like a time travel to hear this again, especially "Eye of the Storm", "Ashford Abbey", "Guilds at War" and "Droknar's Forge" !!!
I have actually been trying to find the song "Eye of the Storm" specifically as it just reminds me completely of GW1. Oh Pre-searing... ugh, the feels.
It’s been, what? Nearly 15 years or so that I first touched Guild Wars? I still come back to this soundtrack now and then, and I still feel a great deal whenever I hear Eye of the Storm. It almost hurts to think back so far and remember people I haven’t spoken to in so long.
I have fond memories with my friend playing GW. I remember us playing, thinking out loud, yeah, there seems like a lot to do but the map feels small. Oh well, it's still fun. OMG the map opens up and it's HUGE! This was also the last physical game I had with a large manual that I was excited to read from beginning to end. Still have the case on display along will F, NF, EotN, and GW2. Man, if I could relive those games.
that feeling if you preorderd gw2 collector edition because you thought its gonna be the best game ever, even better than gw1, and you know that that feeling that you got as a kid from gw1 would come back too life...but no everything was a lie im still coverd in pain and tears ;_;
totally agree with you! was so hyped to play gw2 and just played it for about two months cuz I just couldnt identify with it.. so i´m finding myself here over and over to bring back those memories..
I dunno, I always liked Fort Ranik (although the inevitable hordes of people trying to sell seeds and legs was always a bit of a pain). Then again, the out of the way parts of Ascalon City were nice, too
it's another game altogether... I absolutelly LOVED GW1 skill system, and then GW2 had to throw it away instead of expanding upon what made it so unique
How was the PvP in GW2? I was _HUGELY_ into GW1 before it was even in beta, but never got GW2 due to things I heard and I guess other games that I was maybe playing.
Can't believe how many simply amazing memories rush through my head when listening to this soundtrack. From the first time, I visited Old Ascalon - through the destructions that chars created - fighting in the mountains to finding yourself in the deep jungle of Lion's Arch. This game has truly taken me on an epic adventure where I met many a friend. Truly a masterpiece and those who enjoyed the game for what it was are truly blessed.
Deep jungle of Lion's Arch? Did we play the same game? LA was in Kryta, and it was mostly a subtropical "beach" region. The jungle was the Maguuma jungle, quite a bit to the west of Kryta.
This music makes me truely sad, but I come here every time. For me, it's the sound of a free happy, carefree and joyful youth. I miss those times. Even if I would start GW1 again, it wouldn't be the same.
I remember ppl asking 'how do I get back to Ascalon' when landing in the desolated Tyria after the Searing... not realizing that a couple of virtual years had just passed...
Good ol' GW1. I really miss the happier and simple days of my childhood. My friend used come to my place for a sleepover and we played the shit out of this game every weekend! My first and main character was a Monk and I freaking loved to play as a support. Thanks ArenaNet for this masterpiece and big thanks to the GW1 community for making this game so awesome!. You guys were a big part of my childhood!
I take pride in knowing almost every run in guild wars. No other game mechanic has come close to being as fun as running in other games. My character has seen the whole world. Ran barefoot through deserts, exhaled misty breaths through the unforgiving Shiverpeaks, guided the lost through Cantha, mystified the curious in the Desolate Wastes, sought passage amongst the Eye of the North's heat ridden and dangerous jungles, ferried the impatient and rich to foreign continents, fought bravely for those seeking relinquishment from the Great Destroyer, Lich, Shiro, and Abaddon. I am Cody Battlefierce. D/A. I am swift. I am knowledgeable. I am a friend. I am a runner. (((Comment I made ~5 years earlier, and just wanted to keep track of it better. I still feel this)))
I was playing Guild Wars 2 the other day, and nostalgia hit me like a brick. When I heard Gwen's Theme playing, it reminded me of all the times I would mess around with random people in Ashford Abbey. Me and a bunch of strangers met up and made a band, it was awesome. The memories I have of this game are too much. Had to listen to the OST again. Thank you Jeremy Soule!!
I can remember my first day even playing this game. I used to think you needed to have the CD in order to play. My first day I was doing the tutorial bit at the start. I met this elementalist (I was an ele too) and he/she told me a few things about the game and told me to wait a second. He/she traded my a green staff that my ele still has as his main weapon to this day. I didn't know I could never get back to that area after I left and I felt so upset that I would never see or hear from this person ever again. I actually felt sad. I can also remember running with a beehive in a quest in the starting area too. The best game I have ever played even though I went on to play WoW a couple of years later but GW1 still to this day beats any game I have ever played (WoW, EVE Online, FF, lotro, Elder Scrolls Online).
when i started just 10 years ago in december i reported in sick to school, so i could play all day long and discover pre-searing ascalon... i was 13... now im writing my thesis in chem.engineering(maybe means im getting adultish) and still this music gives me such a push i couldnt keep this in myself
I think i'll need to stream this little gem again .... A lot of people never had a chance to play this wonderful gem of a game. In the top 3 of my best games of all time ... Never seen a game giving you so many possibilities character wise. Mix and matching 2 classes as you pleased so you knew that Necromancer in front of you was different than yours. Of course guild wars 2 had to streamline everything ... Remove the dual class system .... Force attack skills to your weapon , etc .... Guess i'll get on it and record my journey through prophecies one last time , before the servers eventually go down. Keep the memories flowing .... Pre searing ascalon ... the beauty and purety of the land .... the destruction and despair of the searing ... the journey through the mountains .... The amazement of discovering the jungles, white mantle and Lions Arch ... Going through the deserts and face the trials to ascend .... realize that you can now switch 2nd profession so you start working your way back to collect every poeeislbe skill available ... I remember the end game missions in the snow were pretty tough but not as hard as the ones in the volcano .... Really wish i could go back 10 years back, just to discover all of this again .... Explore a little of Factions too .... and i just realized i never finished nightfall .... guess i need to add this to the list too ...
My mother absolutely loved this game when I was a kid. I didn’t know until today that the music was composed by Jeremy Soule the same guy who composed the music for Skyrim. Love these tracks
Every time I listen to this great soundtrack I'm there again: getting back from war against the Charr, my city destroyed, my king dead... But there ist hope! Escort the citizens of Ascalon over the Shiver Peaks into safety... What an epic game! The first time login in to my old account I cried vor several minutes. Felt like coming home after years!
Over the Shiverpeaks brought chills (no pun intended) Just reminded me of the first time i ever finished nolani academy and first got to yaks bend and that tune being on. Such good feelings. And finding the stone summit so hard to beat just outside!
Man these songs they're so dear to me. There is such a beautiful and peaceful sadness to some of them I feel like I'm in another world entirely listening to them. Real life never feels like these songs. Probably why I love them so much. I'm glad others out there can relate.
Crazy memories with this game. I remember playing this game with such an old laptop that half the textures of my equipment wasn't loaded properly and showed up as pure white. I damn near cried when I upgraded my setup and saw my real armor for the first time.
I loved GW1. GW2 is ok. That being said, I love how with this music, you can close your eyes and compose your own story-line based on the musical progression.
I wish i could travel back in time and enjoy the beginning of Guild Wars 1 again. Good times, good times.
Just walking through Eden (the introduction of the game) before Ascalon was destroyed. The green hills, nice music, the first pet as a ranger. I want to go back !
yeah. My ranger was my favourite character. Although most of the farming I did with a monk and warrior.
neo arenanet can go eat shit
You've just made the memories come back ;)
you can, its on steam
I was in MARA too. Turtles - I Am Illusory
Sorry to hear. I have alot of games that give me similar feelings, both good and bad. Its interesting to go back and get those feelings again. At the very least, you have a game and a soundtrack you can go back to that can remind you of all the good times you had with your dad.
I dont know if its the game that i miss, or just the simple life of being a child... either way.. the good feels.
same here !
yabozoable definitely both.
So true !
this comment made me tear up, so true
its both man. you had plenty of time to experience the game in its entirety
i started the game when i was 12, my first online game, i played it for seven years, its difficult to admit but...GW is a huge part of my life
my young gw1 times are deep in my heart...
Nick danielz I have played since 9, and I was OBSESSED with it!
+Nick danielz I'm with ya man. This shit is nostalgic as fuck. I was in the 7th grade. Definitely affected my brain development in a positive way
+JAmes Avery Can we play together some time? And do you have minecraft?
+Nick danielz Definitely the same with me. I loved this game, it's the one I have the most and best memories with.
+Tim Es Dude, You still know your info? We *could* play together possibly...
RIP droknar runners
haha totally remembering this. Running to Droknar. 2k. :P
Powerleveling people at droks as a 55 monk was the first business I ever ran :')
the good old days
Right? U never see them at that outpost anymorr
I missed my old warrior that could run Droks. :D
Am i the only one going trought every comment here and just love how people loved guildwars and miss it as much as i do?
You are not the only one. Crazy that those commes are mostly from 3-5 years ago
why you cut onions?
Wow i stumbled across this commentary, I cant deny any of these statments. Best game ever.. Still rockin :)
To me - best game of all time. No contest.
No doubt there, bro.
SWG was the best MMO.. bu tthis is the vest Music in a game evar
wow was just grindy illusion, gw was a real deal
I miss the old good days!
I started guild wars back in 2006 when I was like 14. I still log in sometimes today just to run around and enjoy the music.
Truly a masterpiece of a game, and absolutely one of a kind.
Two years later and I still listen to this on a daily basis; you just can't beat it.
I listen to this while I play gw2
@@bonesnharmony3422 That game is dogshit, don't even waste your time playing it, the original is still active and has thousands of people playing it and experiencing the fun we all had from our childhoods
A part of my brain is made out of this fuckin soundtrack I swear
Me too. Definitely contributed to my adolescent brain development
This was the perfect game...
It really was!
My main char was Minion Master.(Necro/Monk) When there was any corpses I would change it to a Life Steal Toucher ( Necro/Ranger )
OP!
I broke Gwen's flute.
Jeremy Soule makes best game soundtracks but with this one he just nailed it.
Legend
Harry Potter games, some WoW expansions... yeah, the guy's everywhere. :)
Kohan II too
TBH Jeremy just did his music pack in Dota2. Most of the music is done by another great game music composer - Jason Hayes.
hayes and soule are like 2 brothers from another mother @@Midaspl
His music is magical, especiallt TES: Oblivion
the memories ... they burn.
I second that.
Ricardo Verissimo I third this.
I feel you ma, makes me sad... GW2 aint the same... I miss Alliance battles soo much.
I know! I was so sad when AB died
Damn it, I really miss this game XD
hmm
its so long ago
2005 february
i was 15 this was my first online rpg , i made many friends and stay there for so long
pvp was really the best thing
gw1 is for sure the most inspirating part of my life
i start drawing weapons because of gw1
and music style changed :)
thanks gw1 :)
The PvP was reeeeeeeally good. The Hall of Heroes' difficulty was insane. Hardcore gamers everywhere.
its all about the timing
i remember the times with teamspeak 2
and the 1.5 second delay :D
spike in 3.... 2 (people press their skills) 1.... xDDD
and the spike (burst) was perfect :D
The ranger pet/necro death combo cancer, you remember that ? Don't you dare kill these pets.
hahahaha i remember that :D
^^
howly crap :D
When i was listening the songs i was feeling something like you. Almost cried.
One of the best MMOs of all time, if not the best.
Guild Wars 1 made me into a man. Listening to this music brings tears to my eyes.
It's just the same for me.
1st time I played guild wars I grew hair on my nutts, and I was already 55 years old
Every now and then, I tend to just turn off the GW2 music and blast GW1's soundtrack.
***** "It psychologically takes me back to a time in my life where I didn't have to worry about being late for work, selling my arm and leg to pay for college, or anything really."
I think that's definitely another part of the magic for me. It's why I listen to old video game music and watch old shows that I did as a kid, no matter how stupid they may be. I feel like the magic is gone but I try to bring it back regardless.
***** This happened to me, and forced me to ask others for help, and eventually join a fun guild. Totally changed the game for me.
ok, let's bring this game back to life, everyone install it and lets play again together like the good old days
+Arlindo “val” Baby please YAY!!!!! (Email me at WarpcrewYT@gmail.com to schedule!!!!)
+Beartican Wolf yo dude ! I don't have my pc anymore just a Mac. I am looking for a way to install it ! I will get back to you when it s done !
+Arlindo "val" Baby please
So, should we make a new guild? I have one, but it is not too expensive for me to make a new one. A hall, I don't have enough for, and I don't have one now. :)
+Beartican Wolf Count me in, PM me! :D We should record videos for posterity too so it lives on in us :).
Hey, this is me, Beartican XD please email my public email for the google plus and possibly skype group links! I would love to record, I just hope I have time XD
who is listening to this in 2019? GW1 is still the best!
And very active :)
2020 now, and who knew how 2020 would turn into.
@boi mac still going strong!
2024 =)
Guys, come back home and install guild wars again . There isn't as many players as there was but if we all do we can do this game something again...
I am gladly coming back to this game :)
as are a few of my friends
i tried it about a year ago.
Full... of gold spammers. The only people who talk are gold spammers.
i still play guild wars 1 :)
Running to Sanctum Cay, stopping at LA, tips.
I just got to The Great Northern Wall... the feeeels
I could go on and on. sigh
Jeremy Soule is still a genius though.
You didn't have to be a teen :) I was much older, but I'm right there with you.
I played Guild Wars 1 as early as the World Premiere. I remember when it officially launched, I played straight through the night and into the next day. My dad was so pissed.
In 2005 I was so young, but I felt so mature around you awesome Tyrian friends. The memories. The amount of nostalgy. Jeesus man.
Gwen's theme! It hurts hearing this... knowing there will never be a game quite like this one ever again.
Ikr?
CharmingRogue Exactly how i feel listening to it too ...
First comment about that..you heard that ? The past...
Oh yes, forgot about that one. Hits my nostalgia right in the sweet spot ;)
I was 25 when this came out. My wife (then girlfriend) and I both bought collector's editions of this game. Played together for years, making many friends along the way.
This whole soundtrack gives me shivers.
This game caused a few arguments with my other half lol. Sometimes it was more fun to do a FoW trip with my guildies. :D
Hard to believe these golden times was 9 years ago now .... Where did it all go ...
Time has mercy for no one.
15 now
Runescape
I'm sure that this is the game I wasted the most time of my life into playing it.
@@JackoBanon1 5000 hours for me
It hurts...... and yet it feels so good at the same time... I both love and hate nostalgia. I love the fact that it almost brings you back in time to when life was simple.. you were young.. no worries.. no stress.. but I hate it because you know you can never truly relive those times.. they are gone forever.. they are nothing but distant memories.
Well said. I have chills listening to this, it's both so beautiful but sad aswell.
So true...
There even were plans for a Kickstarter to continue the Prophecies line, but Arenanet didn't approve it would seem.
they should do an major graphics update and all gw1 vets leave 2 i know i would ::) also add jumping and swimming
Hey you can still play it if you want to! I just started playing again and got right away into a guild of over 80 members who welcomed me warmly. :) Gz on 3300 hours, I only got 77 :O
NoBiggie
I know the servers are still up :) I log on from time to time. But it's all heroes work now. Almost feels like a single player game haha
When Prophecies/Factions came out, almost every town you went into had people. And there were no heroes, so you had to work with random people as a team (hench AI sucked).
GUILD WARS IS LOVE, GUILD WARS IS LIFE.
That moment when you get your first set of Obsidian Armor, crazy!!
i calculated it.
in the last 17 years i used 5.37% of each day for playing guildwars. That means, 1.2 hours per day for the last 17 years.
god i can't listen to this without getting extreme nostalgia
Same thing happened to me.
Same here. Within one workday they managed to connect my accidentally separated accounts.
they never fixed that for me :D
but well ... i bought it a second time xD
Listening to each song one after the other is turning into a major nostalgia trip.
Anytime music from the original game plays in Guild Wars 2... I want to cry because... feels...
The nostalgia is too much!
This game was such a crazy good Christmas gift when I was a kid. I couldn't believe I'd gotten it and now the music and just traveling the overworld is always with me. I listen to the gw1 soundtrack in gw2 a lot of the times to remind me of those times as a kid.
That moment, when you got out of the (prophecies) tutorial, opened the map and thought: Oh lord, that will take some time :)
These soundtracks are so great. I've played like 10 different mmorpgs, but non had such great soundtracks as GW1. The only game I nearly never listened to other music but the ingame one.
I miss the good old times. It has been a huge part of my childhood. About 4200h playtime.
Best game I have every played.
Guild Wars 2 not coming even close as to the original Guild Wars. Was such a special feeling !
This game was the perfect mix of PVP and PVE. Both were very rewarding modes at the start of the game. (PVP became very toxic and snobbish later)
I started this game with 17 years and when I stopped playing it because GW2 was released (and all the warnings that GW is dead became real) I was 25 years old.
GW is stil aliveish. The problem is that it will never get developed again.
you outspouk my heart.... this game was so beatiful
i was playing guild wars 2 since i was 8 years old, best game ever made and i cant change my sentimental mind
Forever ...
No Game i played Longer....Never Forget this Awesome Game
Fl33xx Me neither!
right in the feels...
Guild Wars is a special game.
Temple of Tolerance 47:41 right in the feels with this track. Everytime I hear this masterpiece I just feel like crying
that feeling if you preorderd gw2 collector edition because you thought its gonna be the best game ever, even better than gw1, and you know that that feeling that you got as a kid from gw1 would come back too life...but no everything was a lie im still coverd in pain and tears ;_;
totally agree with you! was so hyped to play gw2 and just played it for about two months cuz I just couldnt identify with it.. so i´m finding myself here over and over to bring back those memories..
Ashford Abbey
I dunno, I always liked Fort Ranik (although the inevitable hordes of people trying to sell seeds and legs was always a bit of a pain).
Then again, the out of the way parts of Ascalon City were nice, too
My guild/alliance owned House Zu Heltzer.. so we hung out there all the time.
TJparker98 Damn, must have been awesome!
I feel so much of the morrowind soundtrack in this. Love all the work Soule puts into his music.
man I loved GW1 so much, unfortunately GW2 was just too different for me. The lack of REAL cooperative missions was the deal breaker.
me 2
Yeah, it's just not the same at all.
it's another game altogether...
@@MsHojat It was small but very fun. Only recently they ruined it with a balance patch that massively slows down the gameplay speed.
All aboard the Feels Train!
Oh my God the nostalgia is unreal. I'm having a nostalgia-attack.
10 months later... so am i...
I still play the game now and then, so I remember the music.
But it's not the same game anymore as it used to be.
this makes me want to cry and I've only cried a few times in my life... miss this game
Best game of all times. So much memories, so much nostalgia. Each time listening 'Crystal Oasis' I want to cry ;3
Beautiful Soundtrack and beautiful game. So much memories deeeep inside. Made some very good friends over the years!
I still feel this)))
It was the most graceful and beautiful game I've ever played. I'd love it to have a modern remaster - the music is already perfect.
Remaster it Arenanet!! For the love of all things Tyria.
The amount of nostalgia is just unreal.
19. Hall of Heroes 35:47
Oh the memories...
Thank you Jeremy Soule!!
i wish they'd make another GuildWars like GW1
KingProne yes..
This game truly was something special.
This music brings back such nostalgic memories!
Tasca's theme Immortalised this game imo an absolutely mesmerizing track.
Yes I agree 100%
still here today! i miss gw1 so much ... waking up in my teens on a weekend no care in the world knowing i can play this game all day
GW1's atmosphere, music and general feel still beats the crap out of the kiddie game that is GW2.
when i started just 10 years ago in december i reported in sick to school, so i could play all day long and discover pre-searing ascalon... i was 13... now im writing my thesis in chem.engineering(maybe means im getting adultish) and still this music gives me such a push i couldnt keep this in myself
Here I am again....
It smells like the good old days... Love this part of my life. I was a student and played this game after school :D
Over the Shiverpeaks brought chills (no pun intended)
Just reminded me of the first time i ever finished nolani academy and first got to yaks bend and that tune being on. Such good feelings.
And finding the stone summit so hard to beat just outside!
Such a good game, miss those days.
i remember E.V.E.R.Y note
it's weird ins't it? even tough some of the songs are in gw2, i haven't played gw1 in more than a year now and i still remember every song
joao januario I agree, you memorize every melody straight away but it doesn't feel old or out of place. It just invokes all the right feelings.
That's the power of music that enters your heart by associating with memories.
Man these songs they're so dear to me. There is such a beautiful and peaceful sadness to some of them I feel like I'm in another world entirely listening to them. Real life never feels like these songs. Probably why I love them so much. I'm glad others out there can relate.
My Childhood. So many memories. :/
Guild vs Guild. After all these years still the best pvp-mode ever in any game. Love it so much!
goddamn this music hurts too much to listen to
in the feels
Crazy memories with this game. I remember playing this game with such an old laptop that half the textures of my equipment wasn't loaded properly and showed up as pure white. I damn near cried when I upgraded my setup and saw my real armor for the first time.
I loved GW1. GW2 is ok.
That being said, I love how with this music, you can close your eyes and compose your own story-line based on the musical progression.
Every time I hear The Great Northern Wall I just get shivers all over.
My favorite track off of the gw1 OST.
