    😊 Many years ago, people used to read the news from mass printed sheets of paper that were delivered to your house everyday (it was called a “newspaper”). Back then, subscribers of this newspaper could send letters in the mail to the newspaper and ask for advice on a number of different personal or social topics ranging from light to sad or controversial. As a way to respond to requests like these, various writers around the country were hired by the newspaper to read these mailed-in questions and then answer them by publishing them in the newspaper. This created a human interest themed section of the newspaper called an “Advice Column” (because newspaper articles were formatted in columns). One of the most famous advice columnists was a lady named Abby Van Buren who would publish both the questions and also her responses to them. Her responses became very famous and that well-known column was called “Dear Abby”. If you call your series of videos “Dear Abbey”, it would be very familiar to many in my age bracket and quite a bit catchier than “What would Abbey do?”. Just an idea.😊

    For myself, I was on Differin for 5 years and my skin never looked good. It just didn’t tolerate it well. Once I switched to tretinoin, my redness, itchiness and flakiness went away. It was so much gentler than Differin for me. I can use it on bare skin whereas I could never use Differin on my bare skin or more than 3 days per week.

    Crazy how our hair type is different. My scalp is dry and mids and ends very damaged from bleach, and take like 2 weeks before it looks oily. But I wash every 3 days and use products you recommend although our hair is different and they work wonders . Like you literally saved my hair . Love the coconut oil for pre wash , made my hair so silky and soft first time I tried it and I’m obsessed now.

    I think it's important in your videos when you rave about Tretinoin that you disclose you are on oral pill Spironolactone. I was on both for about a year and a half and Spiro is what made my skin perfectly clear. I eventually got off because I didn't want the fertility risks and did not like that it is a diuretic. My periods were so irregular and I could go months without getting a period and I would never know when I'd get my period. Now that I'm off of it, my periods are very regular. Spiro is also one of the top drugs for trans people 😬 (it greatly affects our hormones). *So I think it's important to disclose this often if you're talking about what saved your skin.* It is dishonest to say a topical product or skincare routine saved your skin when you're taking a prescription hormone medication. Spiro is a bandaid. It does not cure acne. It changes your hormones while taking it but does nothing permanent. My skin was perfect and I produced less oil while taking it, but as soon as I got off of it my oil production increased and I am still prone to breakouts. I use Tretinoin 0.05% but it is still not perfect.

    • @JS-pb2gz
      @JS-pb2gz Рік тому +6

      Thank you for this comment!! I'm avoiding Spiro bc I already have low blood pressure. Every topical retinoid causes issues for me no matter how I apply it. I see ppl with perfect skin raving about tret and get so frustrated with my skin. I'll def keep in mind that a lot of these tret success stories leave out the oral meds.

    • @kaylan2083
      @kaylan2083 Рік тому +4

      @@JS-pb2gz yep! You're welcome. Spiro oral meds are very strong. It fundamentally changed my oil production. It is a complete bandaid. Does nothing long-term to fix or address the root issue of acne.

    • @JS-pb2gz
      @JS-pb2gz Рік тому +2

      @@kaylan2083 Exactly. I get why some ppl take it temporarily if the acne is really painful or causing scarring. But thankfully I'm not at that point so it's just not worth the side effects.

    • @KaraB1353
      @KaraB1353 Рік тому

      I can't help but correct some misinformation here. Spironolactone does NOT have fertility risks. No you should not take it if you're pregnant or trying to be, but it does not effect the ability to be down the road. It is the exact same with tretinoin. My periods became more regular with spironolactone. Side effects are not the same for everyone. For some people who took spironolactone for a long time, their acne didn't come back after stopping. The two people I personally know who took it both told me it cured acne for them. Again it is not the same for everyone. I say all of this with nothing but kindness, just wanted to share my two cents.

    • @KaraB1353
      @KaraB1353 Рік тому +2

      @@JS-pb2gz Have you considered topical spironolactone or Winlevi (clascoterone)? Topical Spiro you can only get from compounding pharmacies but a dermatologist or doctor should be able to prescribe clascoterone. It is a topical anti-androgen.

It also does the low-level infrared. My husband got me the heat and cold attachments as well. Hi Abbey, I need help! I've been blonde for 4 maybe 5 years now and I've noticed a steady decline in how much hair I have and it does not grow longer than under my shoulder blades without having too much breakage and split ends. I have naturally black, fine/thin hair so I never had tons of hair but I feel as though I have less than half of what I did when I first went blonde. I always took decent care of my hair, not over-washing, doing oil treatments, olaplex (now ive switched to K18 for the past 8 months because of you) but I've never really felt any improvement in my hair. I recently decided to give it even more effort and bought more of your recommendations in the recent sephora sale (amika mask, living proof treatment), as well as following your instructions on how to wash the hair properly, and continued doing prewash oil and maintenance K18. I guess what I want to ask is, how much more time should I give my hair to improve and grow longer before I give up on being blonde and go back to natural black? I really do prefer blonde on me so much but I don't think its worth it if I barely have any hair left... I am just very discouraged. Some advice would mean a lot from you! Love u!

    I’ve tried going back to sulfates but they all have sodium chloride which causes my scalp to itch like crazy. I’m still trying to find a budget friendly shampoo.

      Also, be aware that an itchy scalp can be due to stress/anxiety. If it's itchy at random times, take note of how you're feeling.

    My favorite acne tool is using Clearstem Skincare’s “Pore Clogging Ingredients List” and copying ingredients from all of my beauty products into the ingredient checker to see if my items have pore cloggers. It’s amazing how many pore cloggers sneak into our hair are, skincare, and makeup. Using products without pore cloggers is a game changer!!
