I don’t know how you are able to put out so many high quality videos in such a short time. Amazing. Thanks so much for sharing. Always appreciate the exposure to new artists as well as your insights into their work.

Music written by the greatly missed Angelo Badalamenti. Perfect for this video which is once again superb . Oh, and I love Todd Hido's work. Nice one Tatiana!
Glad you promoted this video in 2024 with your short - what a great video! Thanks for introducing me to Todd Hido's work - I agree - he is a genius at what he does!
I’ve enjoyed looking at Todd Hido’s work in the past, but the way you walked through your points coupled with the selections you made of his photos interspersed with your video clips made me think about it at a whole other level. Love your talks about artists, but this one was really special.
Now I'm just going back and watching old ones. ;) I got a book of hido out of my local library, but I got a bad one. I'll go back and find a better sampling of his works. I like your idea about "illusion." Creating my own narrative. For some reason, lots of his work makes me think of that "horror" movie "Long Legs" from earlier this year. I wonder if it's an influence.
Dear Tatiana, thanks a lot for this fantastic minutes, there is so much dark in our world and showing the light everyone of us can find is so important. It might be a life changing impuls senden out from these pictures.
Had the pleasure of meeting Todd Hido (and his wife) at a Leica Event in April of this year and he’s a wonderfully friendly guy, rare to meet one’s hero’s and get to find that it was worth meeting them.
Probably the most engaging of all your productions, thank you. I love night photography. Used adapted vintage Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.8 on an Olympus EM10, wide open. You, thru Tod, have given me new inspiration.

Hello, Tatiana. For me, this is really a perfect video. I've never heard of this photographer, I'm sorry. But I have fallen in love with the work that you show here. That dark mysterious and unimaginable feeling he brings to his work is amazing. Also what is said in the video about the viewer having to decide for himself what he sees and how he interprets it. Thank you for finding Todd Hido. A warm greeting from the Netherlands, Antoine.
Thank you very much Toine for the very warm words, I’m so happy you enjoyed Hido’s work keep digging further his website is full of amazing images :) all the best and best regards to the Netherlands !
The power of suggestion is definitely heightened by the nocturnal nature of these photographs suggesting the potential for the darker side of human activities and a range of corresponding emotions. As you say the viewer is left to add their own thoughts so although there may be no deliberate attempt at illusion they mostly have an eerie almost theatrical composition
Really great video again, thank you so much for your passionate work, Tatiana. You’re proven that “keep shooting, keep creating” philosophy very well ✌️🫶
Excellent video ... ta very much!! That intro had me thinking Twin Peaks followed by a dash of Fargo when I saw those wintry landscapes. Great stuff ... lots to think about here. 📷🙂
I'm a night person, so his night photos resonate with me. There is some of the same mood as Adams' "Hernandez". Adams said "Twilight photography is unfortunately neglected; what may be drab and uninteresting by daylight may assume a magnificent quality in the halflight between sunset and dark."
Todd Hido is the Edward Hopper of photography . I can see a strong William Eggleston influence in his work ... Just found your channel ... Subscribed ... Now , time to binge watch ... Loving it !!! See you in the next one ...
Great video Tatiana, I first came across Hido's work several years ago and quickly became a fan, his work is not only amazing but also very captivating to me. ❤👍

One of your best essays, Tatiana.... I'm a big fan of Hido, though people who question my interest in street photography really freak out when I turn my camera on illuminated house windows at night!

All of it fascinating, but your blend of analytic comments and emotional response to the work is excellent and this is definitely a must-see for anyone interested in his work. Thank you for posting this, it comes at just the perfect time. I'm doing a project on liminal spaces here in Thessaloniki. Some of it is in the brightest of daylights, midday under a broiling Mediterranean sun, but many are in semi-abandoned buildings, often just metres away from heavily touristed areas. Hido's work and your thoughts on it is going to be an inspiration. Once again thank you.

Hi. Im new here but, i wanna ask question about sirui nightwalker. What happened when you take photos with it rather than take video with it. Does it effect anything on the photo? Or does the lens works when you take video? Thankyou
Very interesting. I didn't know this artist before watching this. It also strikes me that there is something nostalgic about the work - the houses, furnishings, telephones, televisions, street signs, cars, etc - there is nothing that seems recent. His human subjects also seem to me either timeless or nostalgic somehow. I wonder if this helps convey the idea that in the image it is not clear that we are in the present, or at least there is nothing in the images to anchor us to the present. What do you think?
It seems to me what differentiates "photography" from "picture-taking" is not just capturing or depicting something but conveying the experience of it--not even the photographer impressing their interpretation of the experience, but rather removing themselves, making of themselves a conduit through which the experience passes.
There’s so many great compositions right here in my own neighborhood, but I just cannot take them as a 36 year old male in this day and age, at night time lol
I had the chance to meet Andrew Wyeth when I was in high school the head of the county art department was friends with him and took the us on a six hour bus trip to Chads Ford .
Great photographer. Bit overdone with the copycats, but those who push through and find their own unique flavour to add to onto it are often great photographers as well, as the way he’s encouraged other to look at the world and it’s natural compositions is special. It’s a net positive for so many photographers to see common scenes as so dramatized and I even still find myself wanting to leave the city and find more scenes that are objectively boring, but intriguing to look at when rendered and composed in his style.
Agree with you, I think the essence of his work is that he extends his vision to other subjects like his interiors and portraits of people which I think is what makes him stand out from the rest (hopefully). Thanks for your insight! 🙏🏻
"Why hasn`t anyone taken the Phone?" Back then those types of phones went with the house and belonged to the phone company you just paid to use it. When I was little in the 70s/80s and we moved we always left those phones behind. Okay, I know this video isn`t about that but I just thought I`d point it out. :)
He is a fantastic photographer. Unfortunately due to the internet and digital cameras, Instagram and Vero are flooded with these types of images. It is kind of sad. I'm honestly starting to feel that photography is dying.

nice video. had to watch it at 1.5x speed, since the ultra slow narration was way out of my comfort zone and kept driving me nuts, but then it was a good story and good image selection
This isn't any more genius than going out in inclement weather or photographing the high rise condo that has the one balcony with a person in the frame. To be the one that goes against the reflexive response of avoiding bad weather to go into it to take photos. Or the identical pattern that is broken of by a singular object that is still the same, but different in a stand out way. A single house at night makes you assume that it's very late and project that most people are asleep or will be staying inside until daylight comes. And combine that with one or of only a few windows that light is coming from, you get the one person assumed to be awake and active while the world is asleep and inactive. The mood and everything is apparent but I wouldn't call the one red gummy bear in a sea of yellow gummy bears genius.

It's all about seeing the work on large scale in person. Which I did for years in the lab his work came to here in S.F.
Like what? Shitty HDR technology where boomers increase all the sliders in lightroom to 10? This is much more interesting than any of that.
