Because he has a limited effects budget. Since he can't just throw constant jump-scares and CGI at the screen he actually has to build up an atmosphere and be subtle if he wants to be scary.
The art in this book really is simultaneously admirable and hideous. I mean, the meticulous detail in every single panel is the kind of thing an artist aspires to, but at the same time it falls into this weird place where it's so intricately detailed that it becomes indecipherable. Like, there is so much visual information that the viewer has to process that it basically loses all sense of form and feature and devolves into this indistinguishable visual white noise. And that's before you even get into the content of the images, where the compositions all just have this really sleazy, exploitative, overtly sexualised overtone that's just thoroughly unpleasant to look at. I mean, I understand that it's probably intentional within the context, playing up the pedophilic undertones of Freddy as a character, and as a horror comic it's meant to be shocking and disturbing and uncomfortable for the reader... But the problem in making itself so grotesque and disturbing, you don't actually want to keep reading, certainly not for the narrative that they're giving you. And if you're not invested in the narrative and the characters to the point that you need to see what happens to them, then the borderline sickening tone and ugliness of the art is more likely to make you stop reading the comic altogether.
Good lord, I love that ending. A nice tease to what is to come and a really creepy and creative way to conclude this episode. Linkara really is good at that, I should take notes.

Hey Linkara. I think the joke Freddy made about "Take-out" was referencing his victim's Eastern Asian ethnicity (haha?). The "cat got your tongue" joke could also be referencing Asian cuisine stereotypes but that is a bit of a stretch. Excellent review as always
Hey Linkara you could always do Freddy vs Jason Vs Ash next year to keep up the 3 year running time tradition and it could easily transition into Evil Dead or Friday the 13th comics for the next 3 years

13:04: Pretty sure the tongue is going in her ear, not the back of her head. Also, WOW the inks in this comic. This is suddenly making me look back on All Star Superman and feel grateful they didn't go this far. Though, thinking it over, maybe the reason it looks so badly overdetailed is because they ran the comic through a posterisation filter in photoshop? It makes any slightly darker part become black and can make something look like it has line art, even a photo. Probably thinking "These don't have a lot of detail. Lemme fix it a bit. Oh crap! Too much! And I saved over it! Noooo!" Dang. Apparently whoever wrote this must be a veteran of the slasher movie sequels. Not a single likeable character and all dump exposition that will inevitably reveal how they're gonna get killed. Is it that hard to make us LIKE the people that are gonna die? Give them some character, make them nice people, be someone you'd be thinking "Oh NO!" rather than "Finally" when they get brutally murdered? How hard is it to make another crew from The Thing? I'll actually give the comic credit and assume the characters looking far older than teenagers was intentional.
SIGH..... What we need, and I'm sure anyone who's read the series will agree to is a Freddy vs. Jason vs. _The Goon_ comic. Not just for that bit of excitement, but for the excitement of someone who knows how to write a comic to lay his hands on these two.
You know, this is one thing I've always wondered, how does Freddy know exactly what is going on in Elm Street? Like, yeah, I'd get he'd have personal information like phobias and mental issues, but how did he know when the Hypnocil and where it was coming down to the exact minute and route the truck was following? I mean he's clearly not attacking the adults because they're just as out of Hypnocil as everyone else, so he can't be getting it from them. I mean, he can't know everything just because they know it because in the movies he's still caught by surprise from time to time so there has to be some reason he just knows it's coming, right?
You know, there was a long while where I thought you were done with the reviews and were just reuploading old stuff. Glad you're caught up. Keep up the great work.
Love the storyline bits in this one. I had a theory in this storyline that Linkara isn't dealing with one being this time and from what I can tell I'm on the right track.. For starters way back in the end of the King of Worms plot arc Linkara sorta quotes Exorcist 3: Legion. "WE ARE INSIDE WITH YOU, YOU WILL NEVER GET AWAY" Now in that movie he's quoting the priest is possessed by the demon, an enemy he dealt with before and the Gemini Killer, put into his head by the demon. So I think Linkara is possessed or being manipulated by the Entity, and among it's gambit is getting help by at least one more of his kind, possibly two. Further evidence is found in this very episode now, when he looks into the mirror, there's one hiding his eyes, the biggest tell off of the entity last time was the eyes of 90's kid being pixelated. So EntityKara is hiding his eyes here to stall Linkara realizing this. The eyeless one(great effect btw) is one of the newcomers, and the freddy kruger one might be the same one or another newcomer. The angry looking linkara might be a 4th one or another form of the eyeless/freddy one. If I'm correct it's no wonder 90's Kid and Vice are working together and odds are good Vice is gonna make an alliance with Linkara because one of these creatures is a hard fight already, having 2-3 of these things is gonna be nightmarish. Also that beginning might tie into the fact the Entity was worshipped by a cult and that's where the magic gun came from. So maybe the two cultists at the start are related to one of the other creature. Even down to their eyes looking similar to the EyelessKara.
Well, it's been a while since I've seen one of your plot segments (any chance of getting those detached from the reviews? I want to watch them again but there's sooooo many reviews on that play list)' but you've really improved, dude, kudos. Your use of composition and your general acting have gotten really engaging, to the point of beating out early Blockbusterbuster episodes (before he went weirdly George Lucas). Very impressed customer.
This comic couldn't even get Freddy's rhyme right. It's supposed to be "Seven, eight, better stay up late", not "Seven, eight, NEVER stay up late". Someone who never stays up late wouldn't last 30 minutes in an Elm Street movie!

Question! On the drugging thing... Why hasn't any of these kids become immune to the standard dosage? Even with asprin, if you take too much of it over a short time you become more resistant to it and can only get an effect with larger doses, something my dad suffers with because a mix of his rather girthier size and having used a lot of asprin during his life. So yeah, if these kids are taking a crapton of this Hypnowhatever, why hasn't any of them become either immune to the effect or overdosed yet?!?

At least with Freddy vs. Jason only the kids who remembered Freddy were sent to the Hills and given the drug, so even if they did build an immunity the damage would be pretty contained or at least easy to keep quiet. The problem with this series seems to be is that they've made the premise too complicated and leave open a lot of plot holes as a result.

My first encounter with Avatar Comics was Crossed and WHAT THE HELL!!! I thought it was another take of the Walking Dead only darker and darker I got. But it is so not enjoyable at all yet I sort of stuck with it since it is literally like a train wreck and then some. Gruesome, painful and sometimes cringeworthy yet it is so hard to take your eyes away. These comics put me into the mind of SEE SEE!!! COMICS ARE TOTALLY NOT FOR KIDS!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR KIDS!!! Yet seems just more immature by how cartoonishly awful everyone is. I doubt I need to say this but Don't review Crossed, Linkara.
Sorry for a three year later comment, but Linkara has said there are comics that he refuses to put on his show, and for his Patreon suggestion slots, he has veto power over, and I have a feeling Crossed is one of them. Which is a bummer because (1) it's good review fodder for how edgelord it is, and (2) because it has a great concept ("what if zombies could think and use guns"), that's in my view, wasted on trying to prove how nihilistic and grotesque it can be.
...Plus I just thought of something... I mean, it's pretty damn obvious now that Missingno is inside his head, what with one of the "faces" in the mirror being him with a creepy high-pitched voice and covering his eyes...but what about the OTHER face... the one with big gaping HOLES for eyes... the one with a much deeper, more "demonic" sounding voice, seemingly obsessed with "fear" and who Missingno seems to be "competing" with for Linkara's attention... It's a damn shame that I could legitimately say that random comic artists are able to put out better, more interesting and horrific comics than what's unfortunately bestowed by people that are either super hardcore fans and doing too much of a service of the comic, or only saw one movie and think they're doing just fine.
Y'know what would be cool? If, at the end of every Elm Street comic review, you'd toss the comic up, make a slashing movement at it with your claw, and cut to black with a slicing sound effect just before the blades hit. Might make for something cool for this particular series
Honestly, the art in this comic doesn't seem too bad to me. Sure, over-detailed. But the proportions, posing, and framing seems just fine, and the coloring is good. I'm not saying it's the best art ever. Just, compared to most sucky comics I've seen him review, this is surprisingly non-sucky.

I haven't been scared on the storyline since the entity and malfunctioning nimue sagas. Now this "sleepwalker saga" is getting scary.
I think the malfunctioning nimue is called "ghost in the machine." Also I'm not sure the other arcs were supposed to be scary

I don't blame you for being wary of Avatar, though Uber is pretty good.
My first encounter with Avatar Comics was Crossed and WHAT THE HELL!!! I thought it was another take of the Walking Dead only darker and darker I got. But it is so not enjoyable at all yet I sort of stuck with it since it is literally like a train wreck and then some. Gruesome, painful and sometimes cringeworthy yet it is so hard to take your eyes away.

SEE SEE!!! COMICS ARE TOTALLY NOT FOR KIDS!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR KIDS!!! Yet seems just more immature by how cartoonishly awful everyone is. I doubt I need to say this but Don't review Crossed, Linkara.
Maybe Linkara should review Crossed, just to truly dissect it's awfulness. It'd make a hilarious video, anyway.

Sorry for a three year later comment, but Linkara has said there are comics that he refuses to put on his show, and for his Patreon suggestion slots, he has veto power over, and I have a feeling Crossed is one of them.
Which is a bummer because (1) it's good review fodder for how edgelord it is, and (2) because it has a great concept ("what if zombies could think and use guns"), that's in my view, wasted on trying to prove how nihilistic and grotesque it can be.

What if Missingno wasn't the ONLY outer-god entity that managed to survive inside his head...? After all...he DID essentially mind-meld with him right before having a "heart attack"... >:3

It's a damn shame that I could legitimately say that random comic artists are able to put out better, more interesting and horrific comics than what's unfortunately bestowed by people that are either super hardcore fans and doing too much of a service of the comic, or only saw one movie and think they're doing just fine.

Y'know what would be cool? If, at the end of every Elm Street comic review, you'd toss the comic up, make a slashing movement at it with your claw, and cut to black with a slicing sound effect just before the blades hit. Might make for something cool for this particular series

Honestly, the art in this comic doesn't seem too bad to me. Sure, over-detailed. But the proportions, posing, and framing seems just fine, and the coloring is good. I'm not saying it's the best art ever. Just, compared to most sucky comics I've seen him review, this is surprisingly non-sucky.
