- Haircut in 1970s Old School Puerto Rican Barbershop in the city of Ponce also known as the Pearl of the South. We filmed this haircut with Ramon, a third generation barber, at Waco’s Barber Shop which was opened in 1972 by his family.
After filming, Ramon showed us his canaries as well as his chickens and roosters outside who you will occasionally hear in the background.

So glad that you are still in Puerto Rico..awesome! His mask is amazing as it has a picture of Hector Lavoe who was one of the greatest Salsa singers of all time (IMO the greatest). 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 Lavoe was from Ponce. He also has a large painting of Lavoe in the background.

Hector Lavoe is the guy that inspire JLO and Mark Anthony in the movie El Cantante translated the Singer.
I left Ponce around 34 years ago I always got my hair done by him and I'm amazed to see him now. He always consulted me in life telling me to be in school not cut classes . I'm so happy to see him doing what he does best but my next stop in Ponce is to see him then do my hair.

The setup, the vibe, the clickety-clack of the scissors, the barber asking for the length and the shape of the cut on your neck reminded me of my childhood haircuts back in India! 💯
His scissors sound cheap and are set too loose. But he gets the best out of them.

@@derlachendevagabund7942 they do sound cheap but how can you tell they're set too loose? I know how to set them/test for myself and maybe feel the difference but I can't "see" it in this video. I also wonder if it would just kind of change the way the hair lays in a way that this barber prefers- plus speed isn't always such a factor in some shops so worst thing is it would be harder on his joints maybe.
I hope Harry never stops filming his haircuts, if he stops I don’t know how I’d ever sleep at night

There are now literally hundreds of thousands of videos just like this, the same sounds because it's not like it's anything particularly specific that makes Harry's video Harry's sound wise.
For the people trying to figure out what he was saying at 12:38, he said that it was "parejo". "Parejo" means that is symmetrical in both sides, meaning the it was that Harry's hair has the same length in both sides after he cuted his hair. He was testing to see if he needed to cut somewhere else.

Old school
an old school hairdresser/ beautician once gave me a great haircut using scissors over comb I was very impressed perfectly blended .. well done just like this guy ..was my first haircut in a unisex shop.. was a bit nervous at first, the woman was a bit elderly.. typical grandma beautician but excellent barbering service .. I’ve never had my hair washed in a shop before either .. she gave me quite a thorough shampoo before cutting my hair which I didn’t expect .

Puerto Rico has really represented. I like this barber. Very unique in his style and ways. This was essentially a all scissor haircut and he styled your hair in a unique way.

I remember the first time a lady cut my hair .. back In college some unisex shop ..I was a bit nervous .. the lady that was going to cut my hair looked like your typical old school grandma beautician/ hair dresser and just as old as grandma! And I was only 20 .. didn’t expect to get my hair washed either so she sat me down at the sink first and really gave me quite a good lengthy shampoo . then used scissors over comb for my entire cut blending it beautifully ..even after the cut she conditioned and rinsed the loose hairs out dried and nicely styled my hair. Very impressed .. great job like this guy here did.

As much as I love seeing you in the modern, luxurious barber shops Harry, I certainly love seeing these old school barbers at work just as much, if not more. In fact, the two from Moscow, Idaho, Bill and Kazumi, and the guy with all the books stacked up everywhere, would be amongst my favourite videos of yours. This one gave me the same kind of feeling and I loved it. What a great old shop and what a good job he did.

This old skool style brings back memories of way back in the late 80s as a kid I would get my hair cut exactly like this from my local Cypriot barbers in London. Great stuff Harry !
Same here ...I’d be at a unisex shop ...some elderly old school lady hair dresser would always wait on me ... she would shampoo my hair then cut it like this .

Stumbled upon this page, and listening to my compatriot talk about it being even ("parejo") and the "dubi" as a joke (which is a way of wrapping hair to reduce waves very popular with the island ladies) it made my heart smile. I haven't been home in a very long time, and listening to the rooter in the background made me tear up. May Ramón continue cutting hair for years to come, he's proficient as heck!

Very nice work when he puts the guard on his straight razor and does the razor rotation/sculpting on the cut itself. I do that but I rarely see it and it's a skill that most cutters don't seem to know with men's hair.
