I have been on amlodipine for 12 years I have been having problems with swollen feet, palpitations and painful muscle cramping for a few months. Thank you for this video I did not know my problems are a side effect of the medication. I will make an appointment with my doctor.
You're so right. I had those side effects. Some doctors get mad when you complain about Amlodipine and other medications. They think patients exaggerate. I read and do research on the medications.
After taking Amlodipine for several months, I went to the dentist for my annual tooth cleaning. The hygienist would not do it. She said my gums were in bad condition! I never had a problem with my gums in seventy-three years. When I went to see the periodontist (gum dentist) his assistant told me they had several long-term patients who suddenly developed gum problems. Every one of them had started to take Amlodipine! I changed my blood pressure meds and my gums became healthy again. Only about 5% of people have gum issues on Amlodipine but it's good to know in case you are one of them, like me.
I've been taking Amldopine for almost a year. I developed swollen feet on my left leg. Suddenly I stopped taking it and I started my previous medicine Hydrochlorothiazide. After a while my feet becomes normal. I've an appointment with my doctor at the end of this month and discuss the issue. Thank you for your lesson.
Tq dr. None of the doctors tell us about the side effect as u much. At least ur advise is sensible n beneficial to those who have been taken the tablet for a long period.
Watch your potassium levels while on this medication. I’ve had two incidents of a spike in blood pressure. During the first, my son, who was visiting me when I became dizzy and felt like I would pass out, took me to the heart hospital where a series of tests were run. Results were all normal except for very low potassium levels. (Doctor ordered five potassium tablets, which quickly returned BP levels to normal.) I’ve since learned that some (all?) BP medications deplete minerals from the body.
Love the graphics. I was on 5 mg and after 5 years with my BP under control, it increased to 224/150 and remained high for over 7 days. The MD refused to increase the dose. Working in healthcare myself, I was concerned, switched doctors and was able to get a dose of 7.5 mg. I have never had any side-effects. Your video helped see the hesitancy of the MDs to increase the dose. Thank you.

When i was taking Amlodipine it caused me to hold lots of water. I would hold as much as gallons at a time. Several times I went to the hospital and was given liquid lasix. I would usually drop at least 30 to 35 ponds of fluid in two days when the doctor took me off it I weighed 287 pounds. In three weeks i weighted 243 lbs. it maybe good for the heart but not when your drowning in your own body fluids

Very good explanation!...I like it when a doctor simplifies medicine and medical terms because, patients will be able to understand ‘to a certain extent’ how to take their medicine for optimal results....Excellent!

After seven different doctors, in two different states, with no diagnosis, my son was finally referred to the Mayo Clinic. His symptoms were weight loss due to constant coughing, and choking, while eating. He continued to have the sensation that Food was trapped in his esophagus, even when it was not. We went to: an ENT, gastrointestinal doctors, and a neurologist. He had swallow studies, CT scans, and an EGD. No one could determine what was wrong with him. After getting to the Mayo Clinic, he was assigned to an actual team of physicians. Several different specialists in different areas. At the end of our 10th day there, he was diagnosed with a sensory disorder in his throat. What did they prescribe for him? Amlodipine! In seven weeks, after almost 2 years, he had relief! He took the medication for nearly 7 months. He was given permission to wean himself off. That was in early 2017. He has not had a single problem since then!
I have been experiencing severe swelling of calves and feet. I take Metoprolol, Lisinopril and Amlodipine for High blood pressure. The swelling is recent and it sucks.
So glad to know this information. I have clients who experience so many different things with medications! Thank you for always providing amazing info.
Thank you for this amazing explanation, very easy to understand. I haven't experienced this myself however I've had a few clients that were experiencing some of these symptoms! Thank you for the tips!
I was put on 10mgs in the morning and i had all the side effects. I felt drunk for 2 weeks and it didn't improve. I took 5mgs at night and 5 in the morning and am much better now.
I stopped taking it after 5 years Bcz my bp reading around 130 -140 My age is 73.i m fit also avid jogger n cyclist .please advise can I stop it.i stopped around a month ready
Dr. You're absolutely right. AMLODIPINE has a lots of side effects. Right now I have been reducing the dose of all the pills I'm using for my problems of cardio-vasculaires, high blood, swelling ankles and itchy skins. Now, I'm feeling a little more fine. Though, I still maintain to have in possession the medication available in case of urgency.
I am using amlodipine for almost 11 yrs..May time nanga- ngalay ang mga binti ko.. Ang sakit gang Sa anckle ko.. Side effects na pal un.. Thank you so much doc..
I've been talking this at 5mg since December 2020. It was added to Candesartan after my B P started to elevate. It is doing a wonderful job but I do have one side effect being swelling in my left ankle. Now I'll walk more. Thanks Doc.
Hello Doc, i take 8 Candesartan & 5 Amlodipine. I am starting to have side effects of lightheadedness, fatigue and GI upset. I was taking the Candesartan am... Amlodipine pm. Can i switch them around or take both at nite to counteract the lightheadedness and fatigue. Thank You
I am 60, been taking 5mg for 5 yrs now, swelling on left side is the main problem. Anyway never had such clear explanation so far, thank you and God bless.
Thank you Dr. I like your video it is straightforward and not too long. Thank you for this information it helped me.❤️. I have all the side effects you mentioned. I will go back to my Dr. And ask to lower the 10mg .
I began having serious problems with Lisinopril, and was switched onto amlodipine. But instead of starting me at 2.5 mg, my doctor, Aruna Agraharcar, started me off at 10 mg, with no warnings of any kind. I thought I was dying of heart failure. I was unable to take care of myself, and often needed help carrying groceries in from my car. I actually experienced episodes of light-headedness behind the wheel of a car. When I brought these things up to my doctor, she told me it was all my fault. I fear for my life as this has happened twice in less than 2 years. I do not know what the future holds for me. I also use CPAP for obstructive sleep apnea, and suffer from serious a fever, that makes CPAP unusable when my nose is stopped up. I had been taking Benadryl at bedtime so that I could use CPAP. I will be 69 in June, and saw your warnings about Benadryl. What am I supposed to do? My doctor tells me nothing, blames me for everything, and is of absolutely no help at all. Nobody listens, nobody cares. I do not know what to do. Any ideas?
If the benadryl has a drowsy effect or a sleeping aid..pls stop using it...with sleep apnea you are obstructing the wake up signal for oxygen sent by your brain when needed as you sleep. If you are lucky you'll wake up feeling dizzy and uncoordinated because the brain could not get enough oxygen while you sleep, because the signal to wake and breath has been ignored due to the sleeping medication you took. I nearly died of this ignorance a while ago until I my consultant explained the danger of taking sleeping aid why my brain was waking me up during the night. It was short of oxygen due to the sleep apnea

Thanks for bringing this video to us very Informative.
I have not had sxs from Amlodipine, as far as I know. I do feel dizzy in morning on some days, upon arising, however. Thank you for your post!😊

Anyway never had such clear explanation so far, thank you and God bless.
Thank you for your kind words, appreciate your comment.
Any ideas?

Oh dear...is your Dr under public health care or private? In some countries, that makes a considerably huge difference. 😕
I hope someone helps you Darling. I know what its like to have no one.
