One of the several reasons i love scott the woz is he releases a movie length youtube video and manages to make it more quality, funnier, and less monetized than half the movies you'd go to see in a theater nowadays. Which is why i think we should show a scott the woz video in a movie theater.
this is why i don't going to the movie theater because all modern movies sucks ass. oppenheimer? boring. barbie? nada! madame web? WOKE! the marvels? MEDIOCRE! the new mad max movie!? FUCK OFF!
As a person who endured the Wii U era exactly the same, this is soooo good. Well done, interesting, and really does a good job showing the highs and lows. I think it's important to emphasize the absolute HYPE around the PS4 going on simultaneously. The general population weren't even looking at the Nintendo aisle in a Walmart.
There was a hype around the PS4? When it was released I saw that it was just a PC. No "other OS" like the PS3. I immediately dismissed it. (not that I dislike sony, I still have my PSP Slim, which is great)
There was less hype around the ps4 than the switch, and the switch has had only a decent amount of it. This is when the “sweaty virgin gamer” stereotype that emerged in the 7th gen was solidified, gaming was still quite unpopular
Just want to say i really appreciate that all of Scotts funny memeable clips are actually him doing something and not just an insert of a random show or movie character doing something. That is so overplayed and its refreshing to see Scott continue to be original.
I’ve thought this many times as well. What keeps me coming back to Scott’s channel is how dedicated he is to creating his own iconic cutaways and comedic skits, using only him and his friends. Even when he does use game play footage to make a joke, he always seems to use his own gameplay.
Former journalist here. Nintendo did have a press conference in 2013. It was much smaller, in their booth, 1-2 hours before the E3 opened doors. Many developers were present, Miyamoto, Aonuma, Tanabe, Kamiya, Inaba and more. It lacked the flare, but we all cheered with the announcement of Smash, and the Wii Fit Trainer video cause a lot of laughs.
Yeah. Mother and Mother 2/Earthbound were both notable when they came out, but they really show their age. Mother 3 though? That game feels right at home with the indie games it helped inspire like Lisa: The Painful (2014) and Undertale (2015), so 2013 was the perfect time for Nintendo to rerelease it! Which is why they released it for Wii U Virtual Console in 2016. In Japan only.

Scott never ceases to impress me with his humor. Even a quote like "Oh my God, it's that statement's evil twin!" [from the part of this video where he talks about Wii Fit U and Wii Sports] is somehow random, yet intelligent at the same time. It's such a perfectly 'Scott the Woz' thing to say.

Back in 2013 my Wii broke and my mom wanted to get a replacement and since the Wii U played Wii games, she thought it was a good deal. My dad liked that it was in HD
The Wii is upgraded GameCube hardware. It's something Nintendo picked up a bit of a habit of. The Game Boy Color is an upgraded Game Boy, the DSi is an upgraded DS, the New 3DS is an upgraded 3DS. I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch's successor follows that pattern.
@@SnakebitSTI Exactly. This is also why we know that the Switch is primarily a mobile console. It's based on the ARM architecture which has been introduced with the GBA and retained ever since. The Switch has technologically nothing in common with the GCN/Wii/Wii U.
@@svr5423 Honestly, given the state of console hardware, I wouldn't object to even non-mobile consoles focusing more on efficiency at this point. Generational improvements just aren't wowing me like they used to, while consoles are getting bigger and louder. As for mobile, well, messing about with old handhelds has reminded me how wonderful it is to not have to worry about remembering to plug in your handheld over night.
@@SnakebitSTI In my view, the generational improvements have been toned down because game developers are unable to keep up with Hardware development. It doesn't make much sense to release a new, costly and potent hardware when the games cannot make use of it. I'm not short of budget, but my PC, which is also used for 4k gaming, is now almost 9 years old. I've also noticed consoles getting bigger. The PS5 at my clients' is humongous. Louder is just a result of cooling. Consoles typically don't use maintenance-heavy and fragile watercooling like PCs do, and when they are small, they need to produce fast air flow. Fortunately, power requirements are coming down with more efficient hardware. I also agree with you, currently it is a goal to become more efficient, both for PCs and consoles.
scott the woz is like christopher nolan but they filmed on the same house with blue background and some goodies on a 2 hours and 24 minutes longer than the final season episode of stranger things 4 and now it ended on a darker ending because stranger things never fucking ends for like i'm getting older in the next 20 years
That's pretty normal for UA-cam though. The only two choices for video content these days are either videos that are less than thirty seconds, or things that are really bloody long, like LS Mark's TV retrospectives, Jay Exci's big Doctor Who video, that massive Bomberman video that took me over a week to watch, and this.
@TheSmart-CasualGamer no you're right, I just like hyping up the people I like to a hyperbolic extent. I too consume a lot of long form content when I'm on UA-cam not just scott lmao
Tik tok is so bland and I hate how companies try to push this video that I wanna watch 30 second trash. No I want to watch 8 hour long video essays on games I’ve never played thank you very much.
Loving this series so far! Although the Wii U failed, the feeling of community it brought was unrivaled. Owning a Wii U was like being apart of a club, as Scott states in the video, the only people that owned a Wii U for the most part we’re Nintendo fans, and it felt amazing when Nintendo delivered time after time with software, until eventually it dwindled out in favor of the switch (which is also amazing) But man, being a Nintendo fan during this time really was awesome, as much as it was devastating.. I’m looking at you Metroid..
A lot of the Lego City Undercover criticisms were actually fixed when it was remastered for other systems in 2017. Of course you have the fact it's multiplatform, but they also shortened the loading times and added co-op.
to be fair, consoles have always much longer loading times. But yeah, most of the loading times are caused by bad software. It boils my blood when I look at the IOPS when "loading" and NOTHING happens. CPU/GPU idling as well.
i rewatched scott pilgrim a lot because the jokes are some of the most memorable moments like scott jumping out of a window and scott having a relationship with knives chau and then broke up because she's a highschooler
Eh not really. The Wii U had games like Splatoon and the most of the games were superior on there anyway. By that definition the NES and SNES would have sold poorly because of the GameBoy. The Wii U sold badly due to other reasons like marketing and the situation of Nintendo’s audience.
@@ianeons9278 But considering the controller that was the 3DS, most games were not fun to play (Monster Hunter, Zelda, any game that required a second joystick)
Not really. Never had a 3DS. Already had a PSP and a DSi. And the 3DS couldn't connect to the TV. It also lacked all of the capabilities of the Wii U, it couldn't play Wii and Wii U games and you couldn't sit with multiple people around it to play.
Super Mario 3D World definitely sold me on the Wii U. Seeing youtubers playing it together back in 2014 made it seem like so much fun and it didn't disappoint. Also I will forever defend the stick placement on the Wii U Pro Controller since it is the only time on modern Nintendo controllers I don't accidentally press the B button instead of the A button.
Scott is obviously a "naturally", awkward person. He even shows footage of himself gripping the controller and his thumbs perfectly lining up with the location of the sticks (as they do for all anatomically correct humans), while bemoaning it. Seriously grip anything (not that), and see where your thumbs go! For me a PlayStation dual controller always gives me hand aches (admittedly less so on the PS5 but I've only played it in short sessions), and I never realised why until I considered the WiiU stick configuration (I'm also aware that the ps controllers didn't have good ergonomics till at least the 4). edit* - the A button thing is actually quite a subtle benefit that I'd not considered
I remember sitting on my iPad seeing projared play it in a sponsored video and wanting to play it so badly, but I was too young and I never had it in me to ask for a Wii U.
I love all the callbacks to earlier videos he makes. Such as the future him wearing a chef hat, since in an earlier video that went into the future Scott wore a chef hat because that's just what he does.
You can acctully see the progression Nintendo is making trough the years in this video. Not saving the WiiU but more so learning and movin the company into new grounds
I remember when my brother agreed to pay for half of the Wii U for my birthday. We went to bestbuy and I grabbed one and he went “When did Nintendo release a new console?” And that sentence pretty much sums up the Wii U’s lifetime on the market lol. I love my Wii U, but it was rough as a Nintendo fan back then.
10 years later i'm still quitting watching dumb anime shows instead just binged watch every scott the woz videos talking about nintendo and listening to video game music a lot than most dumbass tik tok music and radio stations gets me irritating a little bit...
On February 26, 2024 at approximately 2:16 AM, I finished this video and thus, finished every single main channel Scott the Woz video that exists as of this moment. It took me about a month. I'll circle back to the "Best Of" compilations soon but for now, I just want to document raw victory. I gotta go outside more.
I love Wii Fit U, so seeing Scott rave about it in front of thousands of people makes me happy that people are learning about this game's true quality.
Still thinking about buying it. It's one of the few titles I don't have, because buying the clunky wii fit board that only works with this game would suck if I wouldn't play it.
"The Wii U is Nintendo's latest system. It's a hundred dollars less than the new Playstation 4, but it can still play the same great games, like the latest Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and Batman games. Plus, exclusive game series you won't find on other systems, like Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehod and Legend of Zelda. The controller has a screen on it so you can play your game while your parents watch TV. Still wanna play your old Wii games? No problem. The Wii U can play all Wii games too. Wii U from Nintendo. Available now. Games sold seperately." I wrote that in 5 minutes; imagine how much better the Wii U would have done if it had even one commercial like that.
Man, this was the generation where I just felt embarrassed to be a Nintendo fan. The 3DS had some *amazing* games that I had a great time playing with my Navy shipmates and still look back on fondly. ... but I wanted nothing to do with the Wii U. It's the only Nintendo home console I avoided like the plague in my 30 years of existence.
I’m personally going to disagree with you about the 3DS/2DS and Wii U. The 3DS/2DS had tons of great games but if you ask me the Wii U is better because it has games like that but even better and more features as well.
I'm guessing you're not familiar with or are younger than the Virtual Boy. And I would say the 64 DD, but that was such a failure that few people outside Japan even knew it existed.
1:19:20 I remember back in the day when SM3DW came out, I had so much contempt for it, it looked like "just another Mario game" i only gave it a chance when the Deluxe version came out on the switch and after I played Odyssey. One of the several reasons i love scott the woz is he releases a movie length youtube video and manages to make it more quality, funnier, and less monetized than half the movies you'd go to see in a theater nowadays.
Which is why i think we should show a scott the woz video in a movie theater.

That is so overplayed and its refreshing to see Scott continue to be original.
scott never forgets talking about the croods game on the wii u and they skipped the segment of mario 3d world
I’ve thought this many times as well. What keeps me coming back to Scott’s channel is how dedicated he is to creating his own iconic cutaways and comedic skits, using only him and his friends. Even when he does use game play footage to make a joke, he always seems to use his own gameplay.
Scott actually yelling at the gamepad for the "Need For Speed use the microphone to accelerate" joke killed me
So glad the sequel is finally here. Cant wait for Part 3 so it can become a Classic Trilogy.
part 3 is longer than 4 hours of zack snyder extended cut or longer than killers of the flower moon movie starring leonardo dicaprio

Earthbound releasing on the WiiU made it so that long time Earthbound fans can finally play Earthbound for the first time.

The homebrew on the Wii U truly is goated. You can play pretty much anything from any previous console in existence, even DS and probably 3DS/2DS.

Financially wise, but the memories of the Wii U never die. The ports on Switch only prove how great the Wii U was and still is.
@@MandrakeRoomba I have a theory that Nintendo in house, struggled to great games for Wii U and 3ds.
The Switch feels like an all hands on deck situation.
Back in 2013 my Wii broke and my mom wanted to get a replacement and since the Wii U played Wii games, she thought it was a good deal. My dad liked that it was in HD
It's basically the best gamecube version available.
(the wii was nothing but a modernized gamecube)

A lot of the Lego City Undercover criticisms were actually fixed when it was remastered for other systems in 2017. Of course you have the fact it's multiplatform, but they also shortened the loading times and added co-op.

The 3ds was the ultimate killer of the Wii U. It had all the Wii U games , hell more & was cheaper
Eh not really. The Wii U had games like Splatoon and the most of the games were superior on there anyway. By that definition the NES and SNES would have sold poorly because of the GameBoy. The Wii U sold badly due to other reasons like marketing and the situation of Nintendo’s audience.
@@ianeons9278 the gap between a gameboy and SNES experience was way bigger than WiiU to 3DS.
@@JohnDoe-kh3ti
Debatable. The GameBoy was black and white and basically a handheld NES while the 3DS was basically a handheld GameCube.
I’ve always thought that both the Wii U GamePad and Wii U Pro Controller are very comfortable.
